    Description

We have a 50 hector finca in the arms of two mountain ridges with a creek in the middle. We have 1 parrot, 17 dogs, 5 cats, chickens, ducks and a fish pond. We have had people come help from other organizations but would like to find a person that is interested in helping for a longer term (1-3 months) and that already has experience in taking care of animals and organic gardening. We would prefer someone that is comfortable in nature and likes a peaceful relaxed environment.

The place is especially interesting for people who love nature, quietness and a simple life. During the summer months (January-April) it is dry and the trees drop their leaves and bloom showing wonderful colors across the mountains. In the rainy season (May to October) everything is lush and green. Expect cloudy weather, some dramatic storms, and brief blackouts.
The neighbors are mainly Spanish speaking, there is public transport available (to the city of Nicoya about 15km). You can walk or bike to a little grocery about 3km away. Also people using this road are usually local people who will give you a lift since a lot of people around here do not have a car and its common to hitchhike. Yet, mobility is a bit limited. The living area is very simple and comfortable.
We have two mountain bikes for your use and on our property there are multiple hiking trails to walk with birds and animals to watch.

You would live in your own container converted to a cabina overlooking gardens and trees. It is "rustic" but has all the essentials. The internet is high speed, with Netflix, hot water in the shower, fans, and plenty of fresh, cool well water.

You are a 5 minute walk from a bus stop, 15 min walk/bike to grocery store and twenty minute bus ride to town. There is also a private taxi (about $18) if you want a direct trip.

The house is very open (no AC), surrounded by trees/forest, very private on a little hill. The Barra Honda National Park is about 7km down the road and the ocean/beach is about 1 hour away.

We would like for you to have a love for nature and treat all animals with respect. You would help plant/maintain the garden, take care of the animals, water plants, plant trees, rake, mow, mulch. We have trails that need cutting through the property. Concrete and welding experience is a plus.

You will have your own living area and kitchen in the cabina. We provide groceries and will eat some meals together but most of the time you would cook your own meals.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You should enjoy a slow pace, like to read or relax. It is very warm in the tropics and we usually work about 4 hours per day. Life is slow here and you must be comfortable with your own company.
