We are so thankful to get so many messages from interested volunteers on here. This means that we are managing a lot of communication, so please make sure to READ OUR PROFILE FULLY before asking us questions, as we are not able to get to all of them. Once your workaway is confirmed, we have directions below on how to get to our farm.
Buenos dias! My name is Shlomo and I am expanding my holistic center on 19 acres of land in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. I love this land. My team and I have built an open air common house and kitchen with a beautiful Yoga deck below, a large organic farm, and several casitas for hosting guests and occasional group retreats.
I've been living in the forest for about 9 years now, leaving the big city for a much more basic and natural life. As I go, I am constantly learning about nature, natural building, permaculture, and myself while living a healthy lifestyle.
This year (2019), I will host 3 retreats guided by great leaders. I also offer my casitas online . I am looking to expand and have more guests who would be happy to experience the magic of natural and healthy living.
In addition to the retreat activities, I have a small organic health food business. I am selling the products to markets and shops in my area. I make number of nuts butters, such as peanut and almond. As well as iced teas, hummus, Tahini, and some other items that we make from scratch here. We use as much ingredients from my farm as possible. Some times I need help organizing and packing these items.
At the moment I am looking for an advanced yoga practitioner or teacher. I would like to add A yoga practice to our daily routine for me, the volunteers and our guests.
Over all, I am looking for strong and creative volunteers to help with various projects around the farm and retreat center.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I think that what past volunteers have appreciated most is the magical simplicity living. Waking up in the jungle each morning. Reconnecting with themselves and with nature. Past volunteers have also learned about holistic health, clean eating, living and building in a sustainable forest environment. But most importantly, I make good Hummus!! I can teach you!! I often teach Kundalini yoga as well if you would like to join me.
Here are my major projects right now:
- someone to help prepare meals for team (up to 2x a day)
- building projects with wood from my land
- working with short term rental guests/yoga and spiritual retreats
- cleaning and preparing bungalows
- general land maintenance, path building and clearing
English, Spanish, Hebrew
You are welcome to camp on my land, and I will provide a tent and sheets. Bring whatever else you might need to sleep comfortably, or if you prefer a hammock you can bring that as well. There will be a shared kitchen space for cooking, outdoor bathrooms and showers. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats, lots of bugs, and spiders here, but they all are friendly. We have to remember, this is their home and we are the visitors.
I offer food for you to prepare.
Rice, beans, oatmeal, flax seed, seasonal fruits and vegetables, cooking oil and a plethora of fun cooking gadgets.
Best volunteer match: non-smoker, grounded, health conscious, interest in yoga. We like to have a good time here, but this is not a good fit for someone who likes to party/stay up late.
At the moment we are looking for a yoga teacher or an experienced practitioner to give morning and/or afternoon season for the volunteers, staff and guests.
Perks of the area: I am located 3 km from a very special beach, Playa San Juanillo (35 min - 45min walk).. it is also possible to hitch hike! In your free time you can walk to the beach - it is a really beautiful place for swimming, snorkeling, relaxing, and watching sunsets. Turtle beach is 6km away, where you can experience watching turtles laying eggs or the little ones hatching and rushing to the ocean. The closest town of San Juanillo is a small (140 adults) and friendly community that has a few tasty restaurants, a small market, and a tattoo shop.
Note: I recommend bringing the following items with you, as they are very expensive to buy here: Bug repellent, shampoo/conditioner, vitamins/supplements, flashlight, sunscreen, and anti-itch creams for bug bites. Also, internet here is not reliable, so keep this in mind when deciding if this is a good fit.
GETTING HERE/TRANSPORT: Please arrive during the day, before sundown. If you are coming from San Jose, you will take buses from San Jose --> Santa Cruz --> San Juanillo. Busses leave from San Jose at Station 7/10, but I do not have the schedule so confirm it with the station. Monday - Saturday, there is a bus from Santa Cruz to San Juanillo at 4am, 12:30pm, and 4pm. (Sundays only one bus at 12:30 pm), so plan accordingly.
