    Description

We are Marta and Tom, a couple that lives in the center of Portugal to create a new way of living. We recently had a daughter and are happy to share the countryside with her aswell. Our house is an old water mill with direct access to a beautiful river with its own beach. We work on the house and plant our own vegetables in the garden, it is mainly about learning new things and bringing people together to share this beautiful project.
The area is well known for the Zêzere river where you can go out with the kayak, go fishing and hiking for example. We are well connected and have a train station in reach from where you can go to Lisbon and other cities in one way.
It is the perfect place to be outside in the nature, not too far from the surrounding village and meanwhile learn things about gardening and sustainable living possibilities.
We are happy about open people who are independent and like to spend time with us outside of the city!

    Marta, Tom and little Alba

We mostly have friends and family around to visit. Some to stay and to enjoy the nature and others are helping out on the land. The village up the hill is a nice little place and the neighbours are our dear friends. They all know a lot about the area, its history and each one knows how to make good Liqour.
We can offer helpful informations regarding hiking trails and climbing spots, as well as DIY skills that are important when it comes to building your own house from scratch. We are happy to have people over who contribute to our little place and from who we can learn new things.

We are in the middle of moving from the city to a more remote place in the centre of Portugal. We are staying most of the year at the Mill and learn about gardening and Off-Grid living. We are happy to have people staying over and help with gardening such as the Olive harvest or other forms of green keeping.

We have a stone house close to the mill that offers 2 rooms, each have a shower and a toilet. All rooms have electricity and water. The rooms are furnitured, cozy and mosquito safe. In case of a lot of visitors, like family members, we have tents around the garden area that are cozy and clean as well.
We have a big kitchen that is available for everyone and most of the year we have vegetables from our garden like Cabbage, Zucchinis, Cucumber, Lettuce, Tomatoes or Eggplant. We would mostly make a kitchen plan to have certain meals in mind and share ideas.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We offer 2 bikes that can be used whenever they are needed, the train station is very close in case someone wants to make city trips.
The house is in a valley without any houses next to us, which means no neighbours. The village with a little supermarket, a cafe and some other small stores is just up the hill (10min walking). Down in the valley the service for the phone is bad, we have no wifi yet so the internet works only by your provider, and only in some locations. (mostly everywhere outside but not in the thick stone houses). If someone needs wifi or work remote there is a cafe up the village with wifi and everything.
We enjoy the screen-free time down at our house, but in any case you will be able to go online of course.

The access to the house is only a dirt road. In the summer its fine because there is no rain. But the road gets pumpy sometimes.
