Description
My name is Mathew the Executive Director of the Foundation Uganda a community-based organization in Kasese district Uganda founded in 2021 with a mission to restore and protect the environment , promote justice and gender equality, and boost livelihoods of the local community in the flood communities using the available resources. As hosts, I welcome volunteers and visitors who want to learn, give charity, share their knowledge , contribute and see community development as part of their success and impact . Foundation Uganda has staffs that are friendly and cooperative to new volunteers coming to our organization and hope our volunteer will feel at home with our staff and board of directors.
Our project: watershed management for flood-affected communities.
Kasese District face devastating floods when rainwaters coming down from the Rwenzori Mountains and pour into rivers and they burst their banks into communities causing damages and claiming lives for people. 6 out of 10 Farmers and households have lost homes, crops and livelihoods even making some displaced. Did you know that these floods have caused food insecurity in kasese district leading to malnutrition and poverty to our community. 7 out 10 women face domestic violence due to high dependence rate on their male sponsors hence making women and girl vulnerable in kasese district.
Solution.
the Foundation Uganda is implementing a watershed management project which disaster response and management by restoring the 40 hectares of degraded landscape by creating earth care, people care and fairs share. We are working with 200 small holder farmers in kasese district Uganda through sustainable regenerative agriculture interventions . this project will restore degraded land and riverbanks with native resilient tree species (bamboo , prunus africana, macadamia, melia, and griveria ) planting, Water harvesting management and soil stabilization on farm like (mulching and contour trenches which catch and hold rainwater on the slopes), tree planting that reduces erosion and flooding, recharges the soil and helps crops survive dry spells. training farmers on making organic pesticides and Livelihoods for young mothers and girls through oyster mushroom growing and kitchen gardening giving them a steady income to reduce over dependence on their male sponsors
volunteers :
we request for volunteers who can give advice, with experience in regenerative agriculture, permaculture, train the local community, design with us more strategies, implement activities with us, website development, fundraising, and a volunteer who is willing to travel to the field. we believe every skill added to us will create a big impact and we welcome different volunteers with different skills and knowledge it might be another skill not listed . we cant wait to see you in kasese district Uganda
