    Description

    Hello Workawayers!
At this time our priority is to host volunteers who can teach ballet. We are proud to be the first school to offer a ballet program outside of Phnom Penh and we've had the good fortune of having hosted some wonderful Workaway ballet teachers who've helped to develop our ballet program.

We are a nonprofit primary language and arts school located in rural Kep, Cambodia. Our school offers modern education facilities and pedagogy to students from Pre-K to grade 4. We follow a global English curriculum with an emphasis on Project-Based Learning, ensuring that our students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of the future. Our school also offers sports and extracurricular programs, which helps our students foster their interests and talents beyond the traditional academic subjects. Our mission is to provide free, accessible quality education to the children in our community, so they can achieve their full potential and positively impact the world around them.

We currently have 4 local Khmer staff members including teachers for Pre-K, K1 and G1-2 along with a maintenance man/tuk tuk driver.

Global volunteers who spend their time volunteering at our school in rural Kep, Cambodia, will have a unique and rewarding experience that benefits both our students and the volunteers themselves. Here are some ways volunteers can benefit:

    1. Personal growth: Volunteers can gain valuable insights into the cultural and social context in which we operate. This, in turn, enables them to develop a level of tolerance, patience, and adaptability to different situations and circumstances.

    2. Professional Development: Volunteers can improve their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. They will learn how to work effectively in diverse teams and become more proficient in managing challenging situations.

    3. Emotional intelligence: Working with semi-advantaged and disadvantaged children requires an immense level of emotional intelligence. Volunteers will learn how to communicate effectively with children to develop a deeper understanding of learners’ backgrounds and environments.

    4. Valuable experience: Volunteers who work with us will be exposed to different cultures, languages, and teaching methods. Such experience is an excellent addition to their resumes, making them more marketable in today’s ecosystem.

    5. Making positive impact: Volunteers’ contributions can improve the quality of education our children receive, enabling them to have a brighter future that allows them to become a better version of themselves.

Overall, volunteering in our school is an enriching and rewarding experience that provides a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives through assisting, mentoring and guiding while learning a myriad of valuable skills.

Our URGENT need is for a ballet 🩰teacher.

Our next priority in seeking volunteers is to find Workawayers that can offer a particular skill to teach our students. We need volunteers who can teach karate, tennis, music, etc.,

If you're interested in volunteering with us, please let us know the specific skills you can teach that would be benefit our students. Please note again that ballet teachers are given priority.

As a volunteer you will also assist the local teachers with various tasks such as lesson planning, classroom management, and student support. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help lead group activities that align with the school's project-based curriculum, including art, music, dance, social studies, science, computers, and more. Another important role for volunteers is to practice English conversation with the students to help develop their fluency. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about education and want to make a positive impact in the lives of children in a rural community.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a volunteer accommodation located here at school. A large clean room with fans, two twin beds, and on suite bathroom with a hot water shower. We also have a school kitchen with modern gas stove top, refrigerator, and washing machine. We provide the bulk of the food staples but ask for volunteers to cook all of their meals having full use of the kitchen.

It should go without saying but smoking is strictly prohibited and is not allowed at any time within the school grounds. Regardless of school hours or location within the school.

We will provide some Western breakfast items such as eggs, toast, oatmeal, fruit, tea and coffee. Volunteers will be responsible for cooking their breakfast meal, lunch and dinner. Usually, the kitchen is stocked with veggies, tofu, rice, fruit, pasta, etc., General cooking supplies are also available. We can provide meat if volunteers are not following a vegetarian diet. *Depending on our funding situation, we may have some Western group meals on occasion. We would also advise bringing some snack items since Western foods are not conveniently available here in Kep.

The homestay works well for volunteers who enjoy an independent vibe and don't mind cooking their own meals.
Volunteers have free-time in the mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Your host is the American school founder/director, so you will not be staying with a Khmer family, but we will try and give you opportunities to learn about Cambodian culture.

We are located in the village and dinner options are mainly in the center of town towards the beach or Crab Market. A PassApp tuk tuk is needed to travel outside the village in the evening. It is a rural village but a bit more developed than other rural villages. During wedding season, it can be a bit noisy (music) in the evenings but that is typical of everywhere in Cambodia.
