Description
Kia ora! I'm Steve, I live in the beautiful city of Whanganui. Whanganui is surrounded by beautiful nature, from surf beaches and the river, to many parks, walking trails and gardens. It is a well known art hub with studios and galleries dotted throughout. Whanganui has fantastic spots for food and drink, with small local distilleries, breweries, cafes, bakeries and coffee shops throughout - all with a very welcoming feel. It's central location makes for easy weekend getaways to Taranaki, Wellington, Taupo and the Tongariro/ Ruapehu national parks. We have a friendly small-town vibe with all the perks and facilities of a bigger city.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Whanganui really is a bustling cultural hub with something to offer everyone! Whether you're interested in learning to blow glass, paint, brew beer, garden, farm, volunteer at the local native bush reserve, learn about traditional Maori arts or the beautiful river... I'd be happy to help you build connections within the community, and with your days to yourself while Isis is at school there is plenty of time for you to make the most of this.

Help
I live in a beautiful old villa in Central Whanganui, within easy walking distance to town, the river, parks and markets. I'm currently taking sole-charge of my 12year old Grandaughter, Isis. We have a great time together, but there's only so much a Grandpa can manage on his own!
I'd love a hand caring for Isis, our home and garden (we grow most of our fruit and veges ourself! If you're a keen gardener that's a bonus).
Isis is a very creative soul. She loves drawing and making things/crafts. She is equally happy at the beach, swimming at the local pools, and playing board games. She is very independent, but some fun, friendly company for her would be fantastic. I can cook and clean, but would really appreciate it if someone could kick me out of the kitchen and prepare us different meals or share the duties with me. We do have two friendly spoodle dogs, and two cats - all of them love a cuddle so if you're an animal person you'd fit in well. The dogs also like walks and it would be great to have someone else to accompany them on their wandering!
Isis goes to school during the week, stays with her mother most weekensd, and is in bed by 8 -8:30 sh so you'd have plenty of time for yourself and to make the most of getting acquainted with our beautiful city and what it has to offer.Languages spoken

Accommodation
You'll have your own room and will share a bathroom with Isis (I have my own). We also have a little loft bedroom if needed. We live in a big old villa with a large garden. It is heated by a wood burner (fireplace), and is very private.
What else ...
We recently hosted a student who was on placement at the local hospital - he was working full time so his job was not to care for Isis but we really enjoyed having another friendly face around the home! We are happy for you to do your own thing in your own time, and are really very relaxed. If you're able to make sure Isis is having a great time and give me a hand with a few things around the home, that'd be perfect! There is a fantastic new bus route that moves through the city and we do have a vehicle you may borrow from time to time and use any time for activities with Isis.
