    Description

We live in a forested area of Montana yet a short drive from a quaint town and amazing alpine hiking country. We are remote workers with 2 German Shepherds and lots of outdoor room to walk and hike. We have land that needs constant care in the form of removal of dead and fallen trees. Cut, split, carry, and stack are summer activities that help us to stay strong and fit. Yet we need help and want to share both the help and our idylic lifestyle.

We have had Workawayers now for two years in a row. Our ideal Workawayer is a couple that can join us in the forest but also watch out for each other. Besides the difficulty of the tasks, we live in the food chain and it is always safer to help out together. We have found that the balance of two persons is both great for our visitors but also for us. Please understand that we have had individuals as well and this can work too. It is simply our preference,.

Beginning in November the weather is too cold and unreliable for outdoor work. Instead we love to travel. For that time frame we want our Workaway friends to house sit and dog sit. The job is pretty easy. Our two German Shepherds are fed twice a day. We have a Dog Door for them to leave and enter as needed. The months of December through March are excellent months for Winter Sports. Snowshoe or XC-Ski from the front door. Dogs can join you optionally. Thirty miinutes from the house is Whitefish Mountain. It is an excellent Alpine Ski resort. We feel comfortable leaving the dogs inside for 5 hours. We also have neighbors for support.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are international travelers and therefore welcome exchange of ideas and culture. We are mostly vegetarians that often cook on an open camp fire in the summers. Jake is certified as an ESL teacher and speaks Spanish. We expect that our lifestyle may be contagious and that couples that like the forest will ask to come back. This in fact has been the result of previous Workawayers. We have built new and lasting friendships.

  • Help

    Help

For summer stays we are looking for a fit and adventurous couple to help in the forest 4 hours per day, 5 days per week. Comfortable yet strong hiking or work boots will make your feet happy. We expect you to participate in other daily chores and meal preparation. Yet we want you to feel like you are on vacation. The help is often on steep terrain. You will carry wood short distances, push or pull a cart or wagon, pile or stack cut wood, and drive an ATV work vehicle.

For winter stays you would enjoy your stay if you like Winter that includes snow. We will ask you to house sit and care for our 2 German Shepherds. They are lots of fun and very loving. You should like to stay at home and read, write, or work ... OR be an active winter enthusiast. XC-Skiing, Snow Shoeing, or Downhill Skiing should be part of your fabric. BTW ... We have a number of heating sources. It is usefull when the power is out. One of our heat sources is a wood stove. Makes sense. Yes? We cut lots of wood in the summer!

We have very reliable internet wth download speeds between 100 and 200 mbit/sec. Uploads are above 30 mbits/sec. We are both remote workers so we understand the need for reliable internet. We do not however have a static IP address. This may be needed for some remote workers. If you need a static IP we recommend having your own VPN.

We have a number of parking spots on our property where a campervan could fit comfortably. One such site is next to a standard US plug on a 20 amp circuit. This site is not recommended for winter stays.
