    Description

We are a semi-retired couple living on a country acreage 15 minutes' drive from Nelson, British Columbia. We enjoy meeting people from other countries and look forward to showing them around the area. Nelson is a small town with a large arts community and plenty of recreational opportunities as it's situated on Kootenay Lake in the Selkirk Mountains. We have one dog and a small garden. We would be happy to have a solo worker in the house or couples in the campsite. We are LGBTQ2S+ friendly. Cheers, Phillip & Anne

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Travellers will benefit from living near an interesting arts-oriented community and experiencing country life in a beautiful, clean environment. And we feed our guests well!
Not only do we feed Workaway guests well, we take them on tours of the area and to social events we attend. The purpose of Workaway for us is not "cheap labour"; it is more a cultural exchange.
We enjoy meeting young people from other countries and cultures and showing them a piece of rural Canadian life, while also learning about their culture.

  • Help

    Help

We have work available in the spring and fall, and sometimes in the summer, which includes some brushing/piling undergrowth for burning the the fall (towards our FireSmart goals) and other things around the property. We can use some help in the garden, and possibly some outdoor painting and staining, and Workawayers are welcome help with some of our community volunteer work (local community hall and food bank). There will be plenty of time leftover to explore the area!

    What else ...

Plenty of opportunity for hiking and mountain biking, and visits to Nelson, one of Canada's most livable small towns. We have two vehicles and make regular trips to town. There is also a bus that goes to and from town. We keep a canoe, rowboat and kayak at a nearby lake which guests are welcome to use.
