** MARCH / APRIL 2025 - Help needed transforming a garage into an amateur theatre rehearsal space **

    Hello, I'm Lola.

I'm a Canadian/ Irish/ British theatre actor and have been living and working in France for 25 years. In 2022 I bought a 100 year old stone house in a town in Ariege in order to look after my mum during her senior years. Two other members of the household are my dogs: Jalia, who is very friendly and affectionate and Sami who is a recent rescue - timid but very sweet.

With the help of wonderful Workawayers, from all over the world, I have been restoring the house over the last two years and there are still some projects left to do so would be grateful for some help from time to time this year too.

    MARCH / APRIL PROJECT
I'm really excited to transform my double garage into a little rehearsal room. I gave up my job in theatre to look after my mum full time but I do miss theatre so I'd like to have a little space where I can rehearse just for myself, in an amateur capacity.
We'll be opening up the two small garages into one space, changing the two garage doors, doing some insulation, painting, putting some flooring down, and then, finally, putting up some old stage curtains and lights I have from my previous life.
I have two friends coming to visit in the second half of April and we would love to rehearse a little amateur play so that's why I'm doing this project now. I would love to have the help of one or two people (at a time) who are enthusiastic and practical. Minimum stay: a week.

    ELDERLY COMPANIONSHIP
From time to time I would really appreciate a companion for my mum. Just to enable me to have a little time for myself to go out and do other things. I would still do the personal care, morning and evening (and I also have a lovely team of nurses who come in whenever needed) so it would be just be keeping an eye on Mum in the day, making her tea, putting dvds on for her and making her meals. My mum has dementia but is still her lovely, jolly self. It would be necessary to speak fluent English as Mum only speaks English.

    GENERAL INFORMATION
It would be nice to share cooking. I like learning recipes from different cultures and sharing mine.

We have bicycles available and there is a train station in our town so on days off you would be able to get around easily. There are frequent trains to the city of Toulouse and, in the other direction, to Foix and into the Pyrenees mountains. The town we live in has some shops, a few restaurants and cafés. There is a food market on Saturday mornings and a flea market on Sunday mornings.

We're friendly people and enjoy meeting new people, exchanging culture, sharing good food... Of course you will also have your own space.

I speak fluent French so can teach English, French or anything to do with theatre.

I would really appreciate a helping hand.

    Best regards,
    Lola
(Mary Lynn, Lola is my nickname)
