    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The volunteers benefit by living in our community in a lot of ways. They realize that even if people look very different from one another, there are always elements that unites them and through them they can create close relationships. They acquire the ability to coexist with people from different countries and with different capabilities. After living here, their opinion on people with disabilities change and they gain more respect for all people. They can now see the person behind the disability, which will accompany them the rest of their lives.

In the workshops they acquire specialized knowledge (pottery, gardening, jewelry), as well as in the leisure activities depending on the interest from their part. Of course learning a new language is an important asset and opens horizons and way of thinking.

We have many volunteers coming to us from around the world and this is what makes this place even more colourful and lively.

We want volunteers to assits us in our garden: working alongside with the residents in the garden and assisting with light household jobs. We want volunteers to also take part in activities such as swimming and outings in the local area plus activities within our community for the evening time such as dancing, baking, sport, art, music.

The aim of our project is to create a family atmosphere and environment for all members of our community. Also to bring members in contact with different cultures and to give the opportunities to volunteers to experience a different attitude towards people with special needs.

Because of the nature of our work, that has to do to do with taking care of people with disabilities, we want stable volunteeres. We need volunteers to commit for three months.

The room will most likely be in one of the houses, sharing bathroom and other common areas with the residents. The volunteer has a private bedroom when it is for long term and may share with another volunteer when it is short term.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live 3 klm up the hill from Galaxidi, we use our vans to transfer people up and down when needed.
Volunteers usually walk, get a lift or cycle down to go to the local cafes, to the beach or just for a walk. Galaxidi is not very well connected to many different places and there is no big city very close. Athens, the capital of Greece, is around 200km from Galaxidi. Patras, another big city with port is 100 Km from Galaxidi. Nafpaktos is about 1 hour away and there is a bus. Amfissa is only 30 minutes away and there is also a bus. Worthwile visiting is Delfi ancient ruins that are close by, it takes about 1 hour to get there by bus. We are generally very relaxed and quiet up here. Due to the fact that this place in home to our people with disabilities we are considerate of them at all times of the day.
