Description
Bonjour!
We are a family of three: Pete (English/French), Emilie (16 years old), and Sidney (13 years old). Our home is a beautiful old chateau, nestled in 29 acres of meadow in the stunning Pyrenees mountains, only an hour and a half south of Toulouse.
We're looking to meet people from all over the world to share our cultures, taste each other's favorite dishes and exchange stories and humour. We like to host practical, motivated and hardworking individuals or couples who can also help us with a variety of tasks, including:
Strimming
Weeding
Making the lawns and garden more maintainable
Cleaning some rooms of the private house
Bits of DIY inside and outdoors
We have two rooms available and are seeking individuals who enjoy physical tasks, being outdoors, happy also indoors and enjoy hard work and lots of fun in their time off. You should also be comfortable around children, as our kids love interacting with our guests.
We can no longer accept smokers or those who drink more than 7 units a week, sorry.
A little about us:
We finished renovating the interior of the chateau in 2009, and since then have focused on sustainability by installing solar panels for hot water and photovoltaic panels for electricity, as well as rainwater collection and composting. We use our own wood for cooking and heating in the winter, and enjoy eating fruits and vegetables from our garden in the summer months. Alongside working from home in IT, we also run a holiday rental cottage in the outbuilding near the chateau. We are currently renovating the last part of the barn to make another holiday cottage.
We can't wait to welcome you into our beautiful home and spend time together to create something special.

We are situated in a hamlet 15 minutes away from St Girons, the main local town, which has many shops, cafes and a great traditional farmer's market every Saturday.
In your spare time, you can enjoy the outdoor activities nearby (mountain walks, bike rides, gliding, climbing, caves, etc); check out the local antique shops, cheese shops etc or venture for a day out in Toulouse (direct bus from St Girons).
We have wi-fi, can offer bicycles to get around.
They can learn English and French, cooking French and English dishes, how to manage a vegetable garden and gardening skills. Also they can explore the history of the Cathars in the surrounding region.

I great choice for my first Workaway. Pete and Dalila were very welcoming from the start and provided me with excellent accommodation in a wonderful location. It was great having Aleks with us! During her week stay with us, she helped sand and paint the many old wooden doors that will eventually be fitted in our renovated barn.
She has a great work ethic, even worked few hours before leaving to take her train back home!

Karl and Lydia stayed with us for a couple of weeks, and were absolutely brilliant! They are perfect helpers: hard-working, committed and working whatever hours needed to finish a job!

Jon stayed with us for a couple of weeks, helping to renovate our barn. He’s a great carpenter: he did a fantastic job of fitting 8 wooden doors that we got from the local antique shop, and helped with studding the (future!) bedrooms and bathroom.

Just what I needed. spectacular views and spectacular walks, right on your doorstep. I loved the house, so much character, lots of space to get involved in family life, or have some privacy. Pete and Dalila are very kind, very considerate and very good hosts. I felt very comfortable in their house. Lots of good healthy meals.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Pete and Dalila are intelligent, interesting, and considerate hosts, and their kids are adorable as well. Plus, the chateau is gorgeous! It was great having Kate with us. She helped with many jobs during her 3 weeks stay with us, including pointing a large stone wall, weeding, building walls, cleaning windows etc! The weather wasn’t always great, sometimes raining hard, but she never complained and just got on with the tasks in hand.

Victor is a great helper, friendly, calm and very easy to get on with! He stayed with us for 2 weeks, during which time he moved heavy rocks and beams, chain-sawed and split wood, removed sheep manure from our barn and did a lot of weeding in our vegetable patch and front garden.
