    Description

We are located in the idyllic valley of Lorinna; an active, vibrant rural community with a strong co-operative ethos, frequent communal events and working bees, a food co-op, abundant wildlife and wonderfully clean soil, air and water.
We live on a shared property with several other households with whom we share work and resources and a stand-alone photovoltaic and micro-hydro power system.
We are a family of four with a 12 year old daughter and an 9 year old son who are homeschooled with a natural learning approach.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Visitors will get to experience the unique joys of living in a remote, beautiful, off-grid community and learning skills in building, natural building, growing food, partnering with nature and working together.

We want your stay to be exciting and educational and are very happy to take the time to share any skills we have and for you to pursue your particular interests.

Nick is a keen artist and specialises in printmaking and sculpture. Arana has studied architecture, ecology and permaculture. We are both passionate about sustainability, creativity, good food and living a rich, responsible, joy-filled life

We like to balance work with play and are outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Arana works as a ranger on the Overland Track and we have both worked as guides in the nearby Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park. We have white water kayaks, sea kayaks, bikes and bushwalking equipment which you may be able to borrow.

We are currently working on finishing our tiny house (just the bathroom and finishing off decks to go), building a little cob cottage with living roof, building a massive greenhouse and continuing to establish our substantial garden and food forest in line with permaculture and syntropic principles.

We primarily need help with building, gardening, helping around the house or playing and learning with the children. Other projects we may be working on include planting trees, ecological restoration projects, making stone walls, chopping firewood, creating art projects, making compost, finishing work on our shared light earth pottery workshop and helping out with projects and events in the wider community. In the coming years we are also planning on establishing medicinal and food producing syntropic agroforestry systems on the land and continuing to build climate resilience and abundance.

Every Saturday we work in the mornings on a shared communal project

We have a lot of exciting projects on the go and many skills to share and would be particularly keen to hear from helpers looking for a more in depth, long-term internship experience. We would also love to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping out with homeschooling activities with the kids.

It is essential to us that helpers chip in with cleaning and cooking and contributing to a sense of teamwork and mutual support and fun.

We work hard and only have space at this time for people who are genuinely enthused about our projects and lifestyle and are keen to learn and contribute. If you are looking for a chill holiday this is probably not the place for you.

In summer we swim in Lake Cethana or our new dam every afternoon. When the weather gets cooler we enjoy cosying up and playing card and board games.

Meals are vegetarian with an emphasis on wholefoods and local and organic ingredients. We're very happy to accommodate gluten-free, vegan or other dietary preferences or requirements

Happy to organise pick up from Devonport, Launceston and sometimes Hobart.
