    Description

I am an aged female artist living in Batlow, a small alpine country town in NSW. I am very open to new ideas and meeting new people - cultural exchange. I would prefer english speakers even if we have to work on it.

I would like a fit couple to work 3 hours a day in return for comfortable lodging and quality meals.

No smoking household consisting of myself and an aged cat.

The climate is fresh and cool - a great relief in hot Aussie summers. There is a bigger town 30klms away and a regional city 1.5hrs drive. There is almost no heavy industry here besides pine plantations and a paper mill some distance away. It is very quiet - a farm town where fruits and berries are grown, cider is made and you can see the stars when the weather is fine. There are large waterways nearby and swimming pools at most towns.

There are often people of different nationalities staying here as part of the harvest trail.

It is preferable to have my guests from November through to May as it is too cold for garden work once winter hits. I am happy to accommodate my Work Away guests anywhere between 2 - 4 weeks, depending on how we click.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Food and Australian conversations including International Affairs, the Environment and culture.

I hope we can cook together sometimes.

I have many skills I can share with others. I teach design and art to local schools.

I hope to expand my understanding and respect of other cultures by living in close quarters.

    Help

I have a low maintenance garden project which I would like assistance with - some of the physical work is beyond me now. The work will not be heavy labor.

The project involves putting in garden edging to create paths after grass has been removed. I will be working on grass removal once our winter has passed.
Areas around trees will be mulched and pathways will be a mix of decomposed granite inset with timber steps. There may be some planting of the mulched areas, some garden sleepers placed and soil levelling. I will have appropriate tools to carry this work out.

I have a plan drawn up and will help where I can

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

A small but comfortable double bedroom with access to the main bathroom (I have an ensuite).
    A very well equipped kitchen.
    A large living area.

I will provide generous breakfast and lunch foods so you can do your own thing in your own time. I am a decent cook with an international repetoire with a special emphasis on fresh ingredients. I can accomodate vegans and vegetarians.

I had a French couple stay for around 3 weeks earlier in the year who were washed out of their camp by storms. They are Workaway members and told me about it. They occasionally cooked their favourite dishes - it was a lovely exchange.

They had work at a farm and were able to pack leftovers or picnic sandwiches to take to the orchards with them

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Transport is not brilliant but there will always be a neighbour or myself who can drop you off at a bus station or in our bigger town 30 klms away if you dont have a car. If the weather is warm, there is a pool, there is a pub and a local club, a couple of cafes, a library and walks around our quiet garden town.

The locals are friendly to visitors and my friends are happy to include overseas visitors in our little dinners.

House rules - I like quiet after 11 at night unless some entertainment is happening. Respect me - be kind to my cat and I will do the same in return. Carry out my garden project in accordance to our plans - always happy to discuss any problems.

Maybe 14 yrs + Calico Asian Bobtail. She was rehomed and is an inside cat. Has had a few teeth removed and her nails are trimmed because she is not good at retracting her claws.

She loves to be with people and is very gentle. She loves to lie in the sun and watch others work
