  • Description

Hello! I'm Ruth, I'm 29, originally from the UK and currently in Nepal but heading to NZ in Feb 2026 to work a winery season in Blenheim beginning in March. Looking to find a workaway for a week or two in February in the vaguely north eastish side of the south island, but definitely open to further afield.

I worked from 2021 to 2023 as a junior carpenter, builder and workshop assistant, and am fully proficient in pretty much all hand and power tools. I have also worked five seasons as a winery cellar hand, most recently in Tasmania, and in Coonawarra, SA. The aim is to be a jack of all trades, but also master of a couple of them, given time of course.

I've moved around quite a bit and tried my hand a a lot of different things, teaching English in rural Nepal for a year, studying for my biology degree, lots of horticultural work when on a working holiday visa in New Zealand for 2+ years, youth work, and the aforementioned carpentry, construction and winery work.

I enjoy playing and watching cricket and badminton and do a lot of medium/long distance hiking and camping, most recently the 1000km Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia and north island section of Te Araroa in New Zealand. I also love cooking, baking, Star Wars, cross stitching, a bit of guitar, chilling in libraries, getting to know people, sharing skills and learning new things from each other.

I would be very open to any workaways where I can build on my existing skills, in particular with different types of building and carpentry (tiny houses?), ramble about some nice countryside, live in a community and encounter new ideas that have never crossed my mind before.
