Hello! I'm Ruth, I'm 28 originally from the UK and in Australia since December 2023. Currently finishing up winery season just south of Launceston, and looking for new opportunities in northern(ish) Tassie from the middle of May onwards!
I worked from 2021 to 2023 as a junior carpenter, builder and workshop assistant, and am fully proficient in pretty much all hand and power tools. I have also worked five seasons as a winery cellar hand, most recently here in Tasmania, and in 2024 in Coonawarra, SA, making some beautiful cab sauv and other reds. The aim is to be a jack of all trades, but also master of a couple of them, given time of course.
I've moved around quite a bit and tried my hand a a lot of different things, teaching English in rural Nepal for a year, studying for my biology degree, lots of horticultural work when on a working holiday visa in New Zealand for 2+ years, youth work, and the aforementioned carpentry, construction and winery work.
I enjoy playing and watching cricket and badminton and do a lot of medium/long distance hiking and camping, most recently the north island section of Te Araroa in New Zealand, two and a half months on trail! I also love cooking, baking, Star Wars, cross stitching, a bit of guitar, chilling in libraries, getting to know people, sharing skills and learning new things from each other. I own a little car for the first time in my life, which is exciting and opens up more opportunities.
I would be very open to any workaways where I can build on my existing skills, in particular with different types of building and carpentry (tiny houses?), ramble about some nice countryside, live in a community and encounter new ideas that have never crossed my mind before.Interests

Felt super at home from the first day and despite it being February in England, the cabin was always toasty warm from the woodburner and the radiator in the caravan was frankly luxurious. The work was… read more

We discussed tasks, how I would like it done, Ruth took this on board, she carried all tasks out to a high standard, I'm so pleased… read more
