  • Description

Hello! We are Mia and Max, both aged 22, from the UK and currently on a Working Holiday in Australia. Our dream for the year ahead is to meet amazing people, make lifelong connections, build community and learn from everyone we meet. We first met in Cornwall, UK, where we both studied at an arts university. Max studied Documentary Photography and I (Mia) studied Sustainable Fashion Design. We both worked in hospitality, and on our days off we would hike the South West Coast Path, go for a cold sea swim and share a picnic. We also took up Cuban Salsa lessons because we really enjoy learning new things, and it was a wonderful way to meet new people.
Life in Cornwall instilled a deep appreciation for the natural world around us and inspired us to live as sustainably as possible, from our food to our shampoo. We also both volunteered on no dig organic allotments in the area, growing and harvesting fresh fruit and veg. Food is a huge part of our love language, to each other and to everyone around us. We are both keen home cooks and find that sharing a meal with friends and family brings people together, especially when the food is delicious. (We often talk about one day writing a cookbook!)
Both Max and I have art backgrounds, and would love to put this creativity into the work we do, as well as documenting our experiences and adventures on Max’s film camera.
In short, our dream on our Aussie adventure is to meet people, make connections and learn. We are excited to pick up and develop valuable skills that we can use throughout the rest of our lives. Alongside seeing parts of the country and ways of life that we may never have come across otherwise!

  • More details about your skills

We would love to volunteer on your farm/in your home and help out with daily tasks in any way we can. We love to spend as much time as possible outdoors, so helping out with gardening, farming, diy/maintenance and animal care would be really fulfilling and enriching for us. To be able to spend our time with people who know the land and how to look after it would be a privilege. We both have some gardening experience, having learnt from our parents and grandparents from a young age. Max is a proud Welshman and loves to share his Celtic culture and language. With his photography background, he has worked in events management and marketing, which are skills he would love to use. My degree has given me a greater knowledge of natural fibres and materials used in making clothing, as well as the ability to make, mend and alter clothing. I’ve also got a little experience in home DIY, having decorated rooms in my parents house and renovated some wooden furniture.
We would really enjoy hands on, practical work. We’re not afraid to get stuck in and get dirty!
