  • Description

Hi I am Tao, I am 24 years old from the island of Jersey. I am fascinated by the world and its people, where we come from and where we are going.

I have traveled thoroughly through Europe, from the Baltic states to Madeira, my Dads home :)). And in between France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Poland and Denmark. But now eager to embark on traveling out of Europe, more especially the global south.

I love meeting new people, hearing their traveling experiences but importantly about where they've come from and what's brought them here. I am a huge football fan, mostly international football enjoying how it can simply bring people together.

I love music! Although I reckon I am the best DJ I know ;), I always prefer hearing other people's tastes and perspectives. It's always crazy to me how there is a tune out there I haven't heard. So yes rest assured, I will pass the aux, ur taste matters 🫶.

I lived in Spain for the past year as a language assistant at a technical college in Lugo, Galicia. There I picked up skills in teaching, teaching english as foreign language and familiarizing myself with Spanish.

I am an easy going individual looking for experiences and new people. I'm looking to try new things! I am always happy to get stuck in help in any way I can. If you have a question about my experiance just let me know I'd be more than likely to want to get stuck in.

We are not all born equally. Meaning we all have diffrent talents to offer and I am eager to offer mine.

  • More details about your skills

I have had a decent variety of work experience.

My most recent experience has been in education and children's service. I've worked as a Language Assistant in Spain. I gained skills in leading classes and teaching English as a foreign language. I also hold a 120 hours TEFL qualification.

I've worked at a summer camp in Poland developing children's English from levels as low as A1 English. I worked with children one-to-one to aid a production of personation in english by them.

I also was an activity leader for an international summer school in my home in Jersey. Acquiring safeguarding training children on how to coordinate positive, safe and healthy working relationships with children. The work also saw me motivating children to take part in activities and managing behaviors.

I have a level three media qualification from my college. So I know my way around a camera. mainly filming/photography. Additionally gaining editing skills from adobe. So I know how to piece a video or montage together and make it fit well.

From the course I also gained work at a local news station. I helped roll the script for the presenters. The job is more stressful than it sounds lol. Learning how to work well under pressure and gaining insight into media production. I also was a part of my TV society at uni producing material for the US 2020 election.

For two years I played a leading role for the refugee society at my university, Student Action for Refugees (STAR). First as the Campaigns Coordinator and as its President. This experience taught me skills in teamwork, leadership, event planning, teaching in English as a foreign language and public speaking. In these roles I helped plan and coordinate fundraising events, speaking events including charity leaders and politicians. I helped produce 10 events and learnt some key social media skills along the way.

I have a fair amount of hospitality and catering services too.
For 5 years, on and off, worked in a customer service and catering role at a museum (transitioned from a tunnel bunker built by the Germans in WW2). Helped customers with information and guidance. Served food, cleaned tables, dishes and floors. Gaining a hygiene certificate from it.

For a summer I was a runner at a steak house at home where I was responsible for organizing the presentation of food and taking it up to the customers.

At uni to make cash on the side of my studies. I worked at an the international cafe. Helping set up and close down, and clean dishes. I also had a barback role at a bar in Leeds where I did all sorts from clean, clear tables and generally ensuring the vibe was all good for staff on the bar. A great place with a lot of fun had.

  • What else ...

I graduated in 2024 with a degree in International History and Politics from the University of Leeds. A tough course but wouldn't have dreamed of studying anything else. I gained insight to understand this world more than I hoped.

With the course global perspective taking voices from the global south and marginalised communities. Studying Latin American 20th Century revolutions from Zapata to Allende. Transitional Justice in Africa, and global North - South economic relationship since slavery.

Other areas include US foreign policy, UN post WW2 humanitarian activities and the Yugoslav crisis.

So yes feel free to hit me with a history q. We all have a history to tell and better us all to know where we've come from.

As a kid being so close to France we would always go across to camp. The Eiffel tower to the alps, if it had pitch me and my family were there. I have frequently visited the island of Maderia (Ilhe de Maderia) where my dads family is from.

Miscellaneous trips have been a ski trip to Austria, a government trip through France to mark 100 years since the end of WW1, and a climbing trip to Wales.

Recently, I had an interrail experience from Jersey to St Malo to Frankfurt to Berlin. Finishing in Warsaw where I volunteered for English summer camp.

Last year I interrailed from Berlin to Prague, Brno to Vienna to Krakow stopping in Riga. Where I took part in a European project for young people to learn and share their different perspectives of their national pasts. This project then took me from Riga to Vilnius, Warsaw, Gdansk and back to Berlin.
From there I stopped in Frankfurt en route to Paris to meet and friend to end my longest trip so far that was a month and half long.

    others experiences...

For a month I volunteered for a summer camp in Poland to help teenagers learn English. There I picked up means to teach english and communicate to children in a fun and educational manner.
