Hello! 👋 I’m Jonathan, a Film Studies student from the University of Warwick, UK. 🎓

University has been a rewarding journey 🎥📚, but I’ve found myself feeling a bit disconnected from the real world. Most of my time is spent behind a desk or a camera, and I’m eager to reconnect with nature and immerse myself in the outdoors. 🌍🌿

My Outdoor Goals 🏕️: I’m passionate about hiking 🥾 and excited to take it a step further with Workaway! I hope to learn skills like farming, fishing, hunting, and camping. 🌱🎣 I’m also excited to bring my own skills to share with you, including media, marketing, photography, and film.

My Passions 🍲 & Philosophy 🌎: While film is one of my main loves, my biggest passion is food! Growing up in a Chinese family, I developed a love for cooking, community, and shared meals. I believe in sustainability and ethical food sourcing, which is why I’m so interested in learning more about farming. I would be thrilled to meet you all over a meal—whether cooked by you or me! 🧑‍🍳🍜

Love for Animals 🐾: I’m an animal lover and have a dog of my own, so I’d be keen to help care for animals on your farm or homestead.

Martial Arts & Physical Work 💪🥋: With years of experience in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, I’m ready to jump in and tackle any labor-intensive tasks. Though I may seem small, my martial arts training has made me strong and resilient, so I’m ready to pull my own weight!

I’m Akshan, an enthusiastic automotive engineering student at Brighton University with a love for travel, nature, animals and cultural exchange! 🌟

In my free time, I work for an e-commerce company 💻 and stay active by going to the gym, running, swimming, and playing football ⚽🏊‍♂️. I’m also a self-taught pianist 🎹 who loves to learn and play new songs.

At university, I’m proud to be part of the Tamil Society, where I enjoy sharing and celebrating my beautiful culture . My roots are very important to me, and my love for nature stems from my grandparents, who own a farm in rural Sri Lanka 🌾. Growing up, I often visited them and helped with farm tasks, which taught me valuable hands-on skills and a strong work ethic. 💪

🌳 One of my favorite things is being outdoors! Unfortunately, my busy student life has limited this passion, but there’s truly nothing I enjoy more than breathing in fresh air, exploring nature, and connecting with animals. I dream of one day owning a farm or at least having a few dogs and a horse 🐕🐎.

I’m excited about the opportunity to meet new people, learn from others, and contribute my skills to meaningful projects. Whether it’s helping with outdoor work, taking care of animals, or lending a hand with daily tasks, I’m always eager to get involved and give my best.

As a Film Studies student, I’ve had hands-on experience in media and marketing. I’ve worked with top brands like BMW and L'Oréal, managing creative projects and learning how to bring brand stories to life.

🍜 Culinary & Kitchen Skills:
My love for art extends to the culinary world! I’ve worked in a busy Japanese restaurant kitchen, where I learned to cook under pressure and bring out bold flavors. Cooking is both a passion and a skill I’d love to share with others!

🌱 Farming & Sustainability:
Growing up, I helped out on my parents' farmland and developed an appreciation for sustainable food production. I have some experience with hands-on farm work, though I’m eager to learn even more.

💪 Martial Arts & Physical Resilience:
With a lifelong background in martial arts (including Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Qi Kwan Do, and Karate), I’m no stranger to physical work and discipline. My training has built my endurance and strength, so I’m ready to tackle any labor-intensive tasks that come my way!

🗣️ English Communication & Tutoring:
I run my own English tuition company, where I teach students of all ages to improve their English speaking and writing skills, prepare for exams, and build confidence. Communication is a skill I use every day, and I’m passionate about helping others excel!

Beyond my studies and professional experience, I’m passionate about learning from others and engaging in deep conversations on all sorts of topics. I love to chat with people who have more experience and learn from their perspectives—whether it’s about farming, sustainable living, or day-to-day life skills. I’m excited about the idea of settling down on farmland or in a remote area when I’m older, living close to nature with a simpler, self-sustaining lifestyle.

I also enjoy board games and card games—I find them a great way to connect with people and wind down. I appreciate a glass of wine or a beer in moderation, ideally while surrounded by good company and good conversation.

My interests extend to history, politics, and religion, which I find fascinating as they give insight into people, cultures, and societies. I’m also a fan of cars and automotive engineering and have some knowledge about the art and science of vehicles, which I find fascinating!

Finally, I have a broad love for art and music of all genres. I enjoy everything from classical to contemporary, finding inspiration in every style and form. Music and art are important parts of my life, adding richness and perspective to everything I do. 🎶🎨
