Hello, world! I'm happy we found each other.

I'm Mike, originally from Montreal, Canada, but you can find me anywhere on Earth.

I've been off-and-on the road for the last 15 years, exploring different regions and trying different lifestyles. More recently, I've been travelling at a slower pace, taking my time in different spots while incorporating these interesting Workaway experiences along the way. Every experience I've had here has been incredible, and I would like to continue contributing to this community, and help you with your project in the best way I can!

People describe me as a joyful, reliable, honest and opened-minded person. I'm always ready to learn new skills — just show me once and you'll get it done!

On a daily basis, I wake up early and get the most out of every moment. I love the great outdoors, climbing big mountains, I'm a huge animal lover, and I don't drink or smoke.

I love sports, the outdoors, travel, arts, languages, culture and music. I have many interests and passions, and like to dig deeper into each subject that I am interested in. I believe that my greatest talent is human contact. I am a jovial, good-humoured person with great listening skills. I love to advise people and help them to the best of my knowledge. With my many travel experiences, I have acquired a very good ability to adapt to any situation (which also makes great stories). I love meeting new people and experiencing new things.

I lived in Central America for two years (Guatemala and Panama) and it gave me a whole set of new skills, and of course, opened my mind to concepts like minimalism and frugalism. Since then, I have tried to expand my comfort zone as often as possible. Whether it's simply getting lost in the Souks of Marrakech, camping in the wild jungle of Malaysia, going down the Death Road on a mountain bike, surfing the curves of the Himalayas on the top of a bus in Nepal or to stand near an erupting volcano in Guatemala — wherever there's an opportunity for adventure, that's where you'll find me. For me, life is full of possibilities and if you stay open to it, it just weaves itself together.

My new life goals are to take the time to explore and discover the world while taking the time to live; travel slower to enjoy more. Over time, I've realised that I prefer to invest myself and focus on small-scale, but human-focused projects. For several years now, I have been overseeing the logistics and schedule at Films Oiseau de Nuit. I am in charge of the planning and overseeing the shooting of the various films.

Our stay in this mountain paradise was a fabulous experience. We enjoyed every minute spent there! Tayip and Deborah made us feel very welcome, they are great Workaway hosts and they are very generous. Each day spent up there was filled with pleasant surprises, from the delicious meals shared together to the beautiful, inspiring and meaningful… read more conversations. The site where the house is located is enchanting, the view is magnificent and with a panorama of the Mediterranean Sea, it is a haven of peace and tranquility. The 5 weeks we spent there were very pleasant, days sometimes very peaceful, sometimes very busy, depending on the tasks and projects to be accomplished.

Tayip is a very interesting man, full of method and knowledge, passionate about Thailand and plants. He also likes to make jokes! We laughed a lot. He is an excellent teacher in everything he showed us and allowed us to develop a range of skills, in all kinds of environments (construction, carpentry, horticulture, maintenance and care of a property located in the mountains, etc.) . It was an honor to work with him.

Deborah is a pleasant person, easy going, relax, attentive, very welcoming and full of joy of life. She impressed us with her culinary skills and her sense of organization. She also allowed us to discover new artistic talents (pottery, for example!). We also discovered a lot about cooking: from jams to yogurt, to obviously olive oil! Our best memories with her are when she accompanied us on small excursions to neighboring towns to really experiment and discover the region as it should be. She is a good travel companion!

Accommodation in a private cabin was perfect for us. The bed was very comfortable, the room spacious, the food excellent and we had everything we needed to be happy. A heavenly place filled with all kinds of animals (peacocks, dogs, cats, chickens). To enjoy this experience, you need to love nature, animals and the notion of a job well done (sometimes it's demanding but once finished, it's very satisfying). Tayip and Deborah are a very good example of what a Workaway stay should be and have understood well how the platform works. You will be treated like a member of the family, make new friends with the neighbors, as well. Without them, the experience would not have been the same and special thanks to Umit, Çatak, Kim and Mustafa. You will be able to enjoy the abundance of all the best that this wonderful corner of the world has to offer. We learned a lot about a little bit of everything, like life should be! It was a fantastic experience! Once again, thank you for everything!

Mimi y Mike stayed 6 weeks at our home taking care of our dogs and the house. They filled their mission and way more. We had 100% trust with them since the first contact.
