  • Description

    Hey out there!

We are Johanna and Jannik, two friends who are looking forward to a few weeks at Madeira together, where we want to get to know other places, people and the natural surroundings of the Island!
We have both finished our Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability in Germany this summer and are now travelling together for a bit.

We're both very interested in sustainable and ecological ways of living and getting to know projects in different countries which are implementing their vision! And we like connecting to people and experience different communities and see how they live together.
As we've both had several WorkAway or WWOOF stays in different countries before and always had a great time, we want to continue discovering and helping at new places!

From our previous stays, we can offer experience with permaculture gardening, eco-construction and do also like to cook tasty vegetarian or vegan meals. We are very motivated to learn more about all these topics get our hands dirty and help with whichever tasks help the project.
Else, we are both passionate about ballrom dances and music. We both play the guitar and will bring one and like to play music/sing together. Else, we really enjoy sports in nature, like hinking, rock climbing or snorkeling and are looking forward to explore the unique environment of Madeira!

We'll arrive at the end of September on the island by sailboat and will stay at least untill mid-October.
And we don't have many special needs as we wouldn't mind share a small space or sleep in a hammock (Johanna even brings her own hammock and sleeping bag).

We are looking forward to hearing from you! :)

  • More details about your skills

During my first workaway-experience this autumn on a self-sufficient fruit tree nursery, I learned a lot about planting trees, cultivating vegetables, and how to cook tasty meals from homegrown ingredients for up to 15 hungry people. In addition, I learned a lot about vegetable farming while volunteering for a month on a vegetable farm. I love working with every kind of plant, sharing my knowledge but also learning new things about it!
Being a member of a student group at my former school that engages against global warming, I helped to make the school greener by planting trees and other plants. Also, I organized and carried out the group meetings and many projects such as workshops about the environment, for example, sustainable eating concepts, for the students.
Through many different workaway-stays, I could also improve my (natural) building skills and like to use my knowledge in math for small construction projects.
In school, I participated for 4 years in informatic lessons and have a good level in working with the products of MS Windows like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Access as well as its imitations from google.
When I work with others and outdoors, that environment motivates me to work efficiently and get things done.
I am open-minded, inquisitive, and motivated to get my hands dirty with ecological work even if the (weather-)conditions are hard.

  • What else ...

In school, I liked best the scientific subjects, for example biology, chemistry, informatics, astronomie or maths and also politics, french, and sports.
I like to play games in groups and am open-minded to learn new ones.
In other, I do/did gymnastics and horseback riding once a week in sports clubs. In my freetime, I like to try and do various types of outdoor sports like hiking, cycling, swimming, climbing, surfing and so on. :)
My biggest passion is music. I love to sing and play the violin, piano, and ukulele. At my former school, I was a member of the school choir and orchestra. I would love to sing together with other people, teaching others my knowledge or learning a new instrument!
