Description
My parents have a large house with a garden near Düsseldorf/Cologne since we moved out as grown-up children years ago. It's a very quiet, rural location with two small towns nearby. There's always something to do in the garden and around the house, for example we're currently building a car port for our caravan.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
By staying with us, Workawayers will experience a cultural exchange, rooted in a sense of community and shared interests. As retired professionals – a teacher and a social worker – we value conversation and learning from others. We are passionate about creating a warm and inclusive environment where visitors can feel like an part of our family.
We also value creativity. With a love for music, culture, and language, we enjoy organising musical and comedy events and engaging in discussions about social justice, environmental issues, and society. If you’re a music enthusiast, you’ll feel right at home here – we have a variety of instruments available, including guitars, a piano, flutes, drums, and more. We also like to sing and laugh together.
We ourselves, also enjoy exploring the Niederrhein region with its unique culture and history. From our home it is possible to do cycling tours to nearby areas like the Ruhr district, known for its industrial heritage. Visits to regional art exhibitions and local cultural events add further value to the exchange.
We are lifelong learners and find great inspiration in the perspectives of young people. Having travelled widely and raised four children, we bring a wealth of experience and stories to share, but we also look forward to learning about your world, ideas, and skills.
At our home Workawayers can gain a deeper appreciation of German culture and community spirit. We hope your time with us will leave you with some new memories.Projects involving children

Help
There is always something to do in the garden and in the house. Smaller building projects or many different jobs in the garden are needed. But it's all a very relaxed atmosphere and we are also lucky to have someone who likes to be here and enjoys the peace and quiet.

Food will be part of the exchange experience with us, and we see it as a wonderful way to share and learn from one another. We love cooking and preparing meals together. Our focus is on healthy eating and our diet is mostly vegetarian. We enjoy using fresh, seasonal, and locally ingredients.
At the same time, we are always open to exploring new recipes and flavours, and we would be delighted if you shared your favourite dish or culinary traditions with us.
