Hello! My name is Aoife (think FIFA minus the first “F”).

I am looking for a Workaway climate for the winter. My interests are animals, nature, sustainable living and art. If your place contains any of these keywords, please reach out to me. Thank you for your time.

About me:
I’m a sensitive and creative artist who also enjoys writing. I am hardworking and have a deep love for art, animals, nature, dancing, and sustainable living. Protecting the environment is important to me. I enjoy taking initiative, getting things done, and learning through hands-on experiences.
My professional careers have ranged from hospitality, housesitting/pet sitting/housekeeping to healthcare (hospice and caregiving). I’m burnt out from healthcare and am currently volunteering through Workaway to rejuvenate and feed my soul with new and ever lasting memories.
With my previous Workaway’s, I’ve had the opportunity to learn about farm life, olive harvesting, cordwood building, and mosaic-making, as well as creating pathways at a blossoming retreat center. These Workaway’s deepened my appreciation for hands-on work, creative flow and has helped restore my faith in humanity. I’m currently looking to spend more time in places that value creativity and connection with nature and animals. I’d love to learn more about eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyles while continuing to develop my artistic skills.

I’m currently traveling with my 7 yr old 4.5 kg rescued Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix and loyal sidekick, Ruthie. She’s well behaved, trained, submissive and gets along well with other animals (including chickens, ducks, rabbits, cats/kittens, guinea pigs, other dogs and horses. She has been exposed to alpacas, goats, donkeys and sheep and has spatial awareness around them). Please note that I am using public transportation and do not have a car, but do hold an international license.

The people of Pralongo will forever hold a special place in my heart, which is why I give it 5 stars . Brunello came and picked me up at the bus station and is the kindest, gentlest man you will ever meet. He was great at using his phone to translate.

I came to Pralongo without knowing a lick of Italian besides what I was learning on … read more Duolingo…which wasn’t much. The work consisted of olive harvesting between 4-5 hours a day. It was a a tad bit difficult not knowing the language, but nevertheless everyone was kind and we did our best to communicate, which was pretty comical. We laughed a lot. So even if you don’t know Italian, you’ll be welcomed and if anything it will be entertainment value.
Giovanna, who lives there, knows English and she was wonderful to talk with. I had a private room, which was very comfortable. The walls are a bit thin, but it’s nothing that earplugs can’t handle. A heater is provided if you ask for it. You are mainly responsible for making your own meals and the ingredients are provided. Just make sure you let Giovanni know exactly what you eat so the right ingredients can be provided prior to arrival.
Giovanni, himself, doesn’t live at the premise, but is the person to reach out to for questions. I used a translator to communicate with him.
It was a bit confusing in the beginning knowing the times to work because one day we started at 2 and then another day there was a knock on my door at 9 to start working. So, I advise contacting Giovanni the night before to ask him what time he’d like you to start working. You have to be responsible with your own hours. Weekends are the days off.

Giovanni was kind and invited me to a personal growth workshop that was happening at the center on Sunday. It was so much fun. The workshop had English speaking translators, so I was able to participate and met many more wonderful people.

The land is absolutely beautiful. There is a trail you can walk around and you will find plaques with spiritual quotes on them throughout the trail. It was very peaceful a majority of the time.

The internet connection isn’t the greatest unless you are near the kitchen just as an FYI.

There were a few times that arguments did break out between members that live there, but one needs to be open minded and understanding that it’s bound to happen when people live in close proximity with each other. It’s also a socio culture place that allows low income individuals to live and some people are just going through hard times. Having understanding and empathy will get you far . Despite all of this, I felt safe and never felt threatened personally. Overall, everyone has a kind heart and good soul.

My dog, Ruthie, was given so much love there. Tiziana was exceptionally loving towards Ruthie.
Mohammad was so kind and snuck me delicious pistachio chocolates and even bought Ruthie dog food.

I was expecting that there would be mediation sessions and yoga offered daily or at least a few times a week, but there isn’t any that the people who live there do. So just be aware not to have that expectation. And perhaps if you are a yoga teacher or meditation facilitator, you can help encourage members to participate…as there is a lot of potential here and I think a lot of people could benefit from it

There are chickens, ducks and a cat on the property. There is also a swing near where the chickens and ducks are, which was awesome!

Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I’m grateful for my time and for the lovely people there. I hope to come back to visit in the future.

C'était merveilleux de savoir d'où provenait la source … read more de toute chose. J'ai adoré aller au puits pour y remplir le seau. J'ai adoré la forêt enchantée. J'ai adoré les bains aux bols chantants tibétains qui ont ouvert mon âme. Le travail consistait à organiser, nettoyer, aider à la réalisation d'une mosaïque, donner un coup de main chez un ami à lui et, par-dessus tout, à renouer avec l'esprit et l'amour. Je suis arrivée en ne parlant presque pas le français. Chaque jour, il m'aidait à apprendre de nouvelles expressions et à prononcer correctement les mots.
Dans l'ensemble, ce fut une expérience véritablement transformatrice pour moi, et je lui serai éternellement reconnaissante d'avoir croisé sa route. C'est un saint, cela ne fait aucun doute. Je suis repartie le cœur débordant d'amour et de lumière, avec le précieux rappel de rester ancrée dans l'instant présent. Ce lieu magique occupera à jamais une place privilégiée dans mon cœur.

Eng: Words cannot express my experience at Andre’s. His place is part of a different world, a more simpler world. He provided a welcoming, safe space to just be. The food was so fresh and the water so pure. It was wonderful to know where the source of it all came from. I loved going to the well and filling up the bucket. I loved the magical forest. i loved the tibetan singing bowl baths that opened up my soul. Work consisted of organising, cleaning, helping with a mosaic, helping at his friend’s house and most importantly, coming back to spirit and love. I came barely knowing any French. Everyday, he helped me learn different phrases and how to properly pronounce words.
Overall, it was a truly transformative experience for me and I will be forever grateful for having met such him. He’s a Saint, there is no question about it. I left with my heart filled with abundance of love and light and the reminder to stay in the present moment. This magical place will forever hold a special place in my heart.
