Wow! What an experience at the animal sanctuary! From the moment I met Nina till the time I left I was entertained by her amazing character, stories, and animals. I had a great variety of work that kept me engaged every day with clear instructions and even some freedom to engineer a project or two. Thanks Nina and Malcolm for having me and I hope to see you and the Rooooos again sometime.

Emelyne is simply the dream Workaway candidate. She is curious, fun, pro-active, interesting to talk with, keen to learn new things and a real hard worker. She is clean, tidy and respectful of other peoples space and habits. She quickly adapted to a new enviroment with skill and ease, and helping out with a huge array of different tasks, always with a gracious attitude and lovely smile. Emelyne has experience working on diverse conservation projects in different countries and is very knowledgeable in this field. We were honoured to share 10 days with her. She brought with her a peaceful, good -natured, compassionate energy and was a delight to host. It is people like Emelyne that give us hope and optimisim about the future of this plant and society. We miss her beautiful, serene presence. Bon Courage et Bon Voyage Emelyne. Thank you for your contributions to our projects. Come back and visit someday. This was my first workaway experience and it couldn't had been better. Not only did i learn about permaculture and gardening, i also fell in love with the lifestyle and the work it implies. I have to thank Petros for that. He is a very open and cool guy who is willing to share his life and teach you what he knows. It’s so easy to work and learn from a person who has so much passion for what he does. He made me feel welcomed from the beginning and the house had everything i needed to feel confortable. The food was all organic and delicious and the dogs were sweet and friendly. The island is beautiful, with rock climbing routes, hikings, gorgeous beaches, waterfalls, you always have something fun to do and relax after work. I would definitely recommend this place to any workawayer. A 100% sure you will enjoy the work, have fun and fell in love with the island.

First of all, we apologize for the late feedback, as we were not very connected during the last months of the trip... Matthias and Ildiko (and little Csongi) were the best hosts we could wish for ! They welcomed us warmly in their home and taught us a lot in their magical garden, despite the never ending rain. They found varied interesting tasks for us and gave us the opportunity to see how they manage to live from and with permaculture. Their way of life and everything they created in the garden was really inspiring and gave us many ideas for our project ! Moreover they are both really nice, funny and knowledgeable and it was always a pleasure talking with them during delicious meals (with yummy homemade bread and fresh food directly from the garden) :) We also enjoyed meeting all their lovely animals as well as their friends and neighbours all around Bazsi during the plant exchange, and exploring the surroundings (we highly recommend the stupa !). Thank you again for everything ! Hugo & Claire

Christian had great energy and brought more balance to the home. Lovely to hear his music and had a very calming influence. Fab cook and really very good at painting. Very good quality of workmanship. We were very sad to see Christian leave but know that one day our paths will cross again. Have the most wonderful time exploring Christian and we look forward to the next time. xx Big hug from us all

Most amazing, heartwarming place ever. This was my first workaway experience and Im already itching to go back!! To be honest, when I first got there it took me two or three days to adjust, but after, once I started getting to know and love all the dogs and fall into the routine, I couldnt have been happier. Its very rustic and simple living, so dont expect any of the creature comforts of home. And the hours are not set, so if youre hoping to have 4 hours of work in the morning and then the rest of the day to do your own thing, dont expect that either. That being said, everyone I was there with was super flexible about when we would take our days off or when we could take an afternoon to go into the city and use wifi and what not. But all in all, this one was of my favorite experiences throughout my travels. The shelter is located on the most beautiful, sacred mountain where you can catch the most amazing sunrises and sunsets if you hike up to the top. The dogs are the most wonderful creatures ever, after a while you start to learn all their personalities and they become your best friends! I absolutely fell in love with Luna, Jurry, Manchas, Preciosa, Jane, and so many more! Living at the shelter is the most incredible lesson in simple living; we cooked all our own meals, heated up water on the fire for our showers, went into the forest (with the dogs following us up the trail) to gather firewood, and recycled/reused everything possible. Peggy, the woman in charge while I was there, is the most selfless, loving woman who helps make the shelter feel so special. You can see through the way the dogs always run up to her and follow her around how much she has given her love, time, and compassion to them. Getting to participate in the kung-fu and energy classes and Temazcal ceremonies in the nature reserve really introduces you to the beautiful, spiritual community that surrounds the sacred mountain. I seriously cant wait to return to this place because the 13 days I had was definitely not long enough! So much love to Peggy, Ramon, Fabien, Hanna, and Pauline for making my experience what it was!

Thomas stayed with us for two weeks. We were very sorry to see him leave. Thomas is a super workaway. He is extremely hard-working, always paying attention to detail. No job is too difficult for Thomas and equally capable with indoor and outdoor work. He has perfect English and learns very quickly. On a personal level Thomas is a very sociable person. He engaged fully in the concept of cultural exchange. He showed great interest in our Irish culture but equally shared many interesting insights into his own culure and country. Thomas is very independent in his free time and loves to hike and explore the local area. If you get the opportunity to host Thomas you will not be dissapointed. We wish him all the best in his future travels and career.

I loved my two weeks here! Rob and Catherine are so warm, welcoming, and encouraging, as are the others at the site! It quickly felt like close friends and family and I loved learning from others all over the world. Any personal, professional or other questions I had, Rob and Catherine were very helpful in helping me find the answers quickly. They are very organized in providing the tasks for us to do each day and I appreciated the patience they displayed in teaching us knew skills (there were some specific aspects to painting I had never done before). The accommodations were wonderful and I got to rest peacefully in my little nook. The grounds are beautiful and I loved walking around in nature and experiencing warmth by the campfire. There are woods surrounding the site and I spent hours exploring on the bikes they provided. For the first time I experienced living in community and I loved it. We explored surrounding sites on the weekend and I loved learning more about Dutch culture. The only thing I missed was experiencing the site while they have workshops, as these don't run in the summer! I did pick their brains about how these work during the year and appreciated the learning opportunities they shared with the group in learning about other farming practices.

Ishanka was our generous host and friend. Second in command was a fellow named Uma; he cooked, cleaned, and managed the property with Ishanka. During our incredible stay, we worked, played, explored, and chilled each day. The schedule was very laissez-faire but when we worked, we worked hard! It was very rewarding and creative work. We helped water plants and set the table when guests chose to have a home-cooked meal. We would do dishes and help cook too! We pursued any opportunity to help make the guests experience special. Our hosts were very appreciative and happy for our efforts. Ishanka offered us his own bedroom while we volunteered there. A truly wholesome dude, making life on a very wholesome slice of earth.

Michal is great, don't hesitate to host him. He is keen, willing, happy to help with anything. The pigs have never been so well looked after and the wild areas of the garden are looking really tamed. Michal worries that his English is not good but he can hold a conversation easily and we had no communication problems. We'd have you back any day Michal, but we hope that you will soon be realising your ambitions to be an air traffic controller. Your care and attention to detail will mean you are good at it.

This was my first Workaway experience and I thought it was amazing! I was there less than two weeks and felt like part of the family by the time I left. Pepe is very warm and welcoming and gives a great guide to his city! Antonio is a sweet and active young boy. I really felt I got to know the real Portugal through working with this family, and it never really felt like work. I found Pepe very flexible and my only challenge was knowing whether I was doing enough! I got to practice my cooking skills and Pepe was very understanding of my slightly burned sweet potato fries. I did some light tidying and watched Antonio a couple of times. I went with Pepe and Antonio to visit family in Porto, and we went together a few other times to a beach nearby. I actually missed my flight and Pepe was very kind and open to me staying a few extra days. Overall, this is a very lovely family and I fell in love with Portugal through this experience.

Experience of a lifetime! It was a first Workaway experience for me. I was offered to stay at Putry and Ersan's place for ten days and the whole stay was amazing!! I really felt part of the family. I spent some time chilling at the new hostel, and it looks like an awesome project! I miss the incredible view of Gunung Gede over the rice fields. But my stay wasn't only about that. It was about experiencing a new culture with new friends. Thanks Puja for letting me ride on that slow motorbike to visit the waterfalls and plantations! Thanks Risky for the dinner at your parents' place! Thanks Agung for that car ride to Bandung. Thanks Ersan for all the great jokes ahah! Follow for follow! Thanks Putry for bringing me everywhere to show me around the city! Thanks Rian for those crazy nights and for these guitars shows! Didn't spend enought time with these guys, I even had to come back after my 2 months trip to say hi. I miss this place and my friends! See you, Alex

Habarana and Rukmal's marvelous jungle home instantly became my home too. The owner and staff are great friends, brothers. Rukmal (the mastermind behind the jungle-compound), Mr. Paul (second in command/sous chef/uncle figure), Kavi (the businessman with street knowledge and a big heart and killer pipes), and Ranga (tuk-tuk extraordinaire/carrom semi-pro) become my machans (brothers). Anita, the property-chef became my grandmother, mother, and sister; all rolled into a sweet 76-year-old lady. I have never felt more at home in a new place. Each morning we (Lea&Jake) would find a new project or continue working on an already existing improvement or creation that we had set out to achieve. We sanded furniture, painted, and sealed some tables and chairs. We helped set the table around meal times-which varied on a day to day, customer to customer basis (almost always the treehouse was occupied by a guest/s). Watering plants, setting out-cleaning-and collecting kerosene lanterns were daily opportunities to help the "Bed&Breakfast" thrive. Every day we saw new places, tried new foods, and interacted with nature in entirely new ways. I attended the funeral of a friend's grandfather, that friend I met while volunteering at the coolest treehouse in Sri Lanka. I learned so much about the local fauna and cultural practices. Foot safaris and bird watching was a part of the daily routine. Not to mention, the best food I had eaten in Sri Lanka, came from Rukmal's kitchen. Come here if you wish to connect with freethinking, creative, generous, genuine people. I am proud to have had this experience and grateful to have made such incredible relationships.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying with Esther and Richard the past week and it feels like I’ve been spoiled. It makes me wonder if next experiences can begin to live up. Esther and Richard are very warm hearted and open people whose company I enjoyed a lot. They both work very hard and I am really impressed by what they have built. Both Richard and Esther have a lot of knowledge about how to grow fruit and vegetables in a sustainable way and were very excited to share this with me. We spent the week cleaning up the garden, and when temperatures reached 50 degrees, they were beyond considerate changing the working hours because of the warm weather. Richard is an amazing chef; he cooked the tastiest lunches for us every day with fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden (go follow Riccardo the rustic chef on Instagram!). Along with the garden work, I really enjoyed the hours we spent on taking pictures of their beautiful house, food and animals. It was really cool seeing how much they both enjoyed taking photos too, and it was a lot of fun thinking with them about how to get the best shots. During the week they also showed me around Matera and Montescaglioso. We went out for dinner in amazing local restaurants and they showed me where to get the best ice cream and pizza in town. They know a lot about the area and I really appreciated them sharing this with me. This was my first workaway experience and I am very grateful for how welcome Esther and Richard make me feel, thank you so much!

I had a lot of fun in my five weeks with Anna-María and Halldór. Work was sometimes more sometimes less but never too much, mostly keeping the house clean, help with tourist rides and other chores that came up. Thank you so much for all the riding trips and for taking us herding with you, I will never forget it! Especially the trip over the mountain was unlike anything I have ever done, even in the pouring rain... I already miss sweet Neró and of course Lækur and all the other horses. Hope to see you again some time maybe :)

Gianna was an excellent help with various jobs and projects including painting and sanding and housework. She was always cheerful and was great company and was always up for joining in any sporting or cultural excursions and became a rather good croquet player during her time with us!!

Any host would be lucky to have Xavier as a helping hand. He's very adaptable, calm, self sufficient and pro active. He helped around with a few projects, daily cleaning and taking care of guests, wether it be doing check ins, making breakfast or interacting with people. Great experience!

Abrazo!
