💚 Siempre bienvenidos

A memorable Workaway… our second workaway Our one week stay with Donald and Weenie was truly meaningful … a great mix of cultural exchange, light work, and amazing local food. Arrival: Donald kindly came to pick us up from the airport late at night, even stopping for snacks before bringing us to his charming old wooden house. Though dark, we could already feel the peaceful and historic atmosphere. During the week: We were warmly welcomed each morning and toured their lovely garden full of tropical plants. Donald shared so much about Sabah’s nature and culture — even teaching us that jati means teak and showed us the beautiful benches he made w teak! He also treated us to local favourites like Sabah Ngiu Chap beef noodles and fish soup, both unforgettable. We helped clean and organize the house, baked a carrot cake, and spent a full day sanding and restoring an old swing — a satisfying project we sadly couldn’t finish before leaving, but we were glad to see it come back to life under Donald’s care. Persistence! A great trait. Donald gave us time to explore Kota Kinabalu, where we enjoyed the markets, cafés, and sights, before returning to the peaceful homestay on Wednesday. Very generous of Donald. Final day: We had breakfast together, shared warm conversations, and reflected on a week that was both relaxing and rewarding. We wish we had stayed longer! Thank you, Donald and Weenie, for your kindness and hospitality a wonderful second Workaway experience for me and my kids. The machinery experience was great for the boys. Having Sara and Luca with us in Samrau was such a warm and happy experience. From the first day, they blended into our family like we’d known them for years. Everyone — from kids to elders — really liked them. They helped with everything on the farm and were always curious to learn about our culture and village life. One evening they cooked Italian pasta for all of us — it was so tasty that my family still talks about it! They also taught us a new card game that became everyone’s favourite after dinner. We had a great time together, full of laughter, good talks, and lovely moments with the family. The time we spent with them will always stay in our hearts. Sara and Luca, you will always have a home in Samrau. Come back soon — your Indian family is waiting for you. ❤️ — Chaman & Family

Kingsley was a joy to Host! He was so enthusiastic and open. I loved hearing about his home country and he even brought me couple of beautiful head scarves. He was so respectful and helped immensely. He worked diligently and whatever task he did, he did well. He was a huge huge help with my family and they thought he was a nice guy and so helpful. He was fun and seemed to enjoy himself. I will happily have him back when I move to my new home.

Hector was the highlight of this Workaway! He was so personally invested in making sure I loved my time in Taltal. He knew all the best things to do, shared everything in his home without a second thought, and was incredibly open to share his stories and hear mine. His leadership and organization are impeccable, you’ll always know exactly where you need to be and when. I loved every day in Taltal and could have spent way longer there, thanks to Hector’s generosity, cooking, and sense of humor!! Can’t recommend this experience enough.—Finn Hector made us feel at home from the second we arrived. He’s super impressive (he dedicates so much of his time to the school), he’s cheerful, very community-oriented, and a phenomenal cook. He’s a ton of fun to go out with or just talk to, and living in his house is a great set-up. He has such a lighthearted, supportive relationship with the kids and it really makes the teaching fun. You really grow quite close to the kids, largely because of the close school culture. It’s a great balance of free time and volunteering, and the surrounding nature is really incredible. My experience in Taltal was truly wonderful. Hector goes out of his way for you without hesitation (he was always getting us in touch with people, organizing activities for us, etc. and one of the other volunteers lost their phone and he spent over five hours looking for it for them). I strongly recommend this experience, I miss it dearly and will not soon forget the strong sense of community and support I felt when I was there :) —Sophie

It was really great having Johanna stay. She was always up for a new job, a new skill or a new food making mission. She brightens up the room with her presence and is always out to please others. A very easy guest, really clever, and a great worker.

Our stay with Charlotte was amazing. Our accommodation was nestled in the middle of the Koh Lanta rainforest and a short walk away from the stunning beach. Charlotte offers really comfortable private rooms with everything you need sorted out. The work was varied and depends largely on what's necessary to do before the high-season or in terms of general garden and house maintenance. Charlotte was very trusting as well as flexible, allowing us to operate on our schedule and handle the tasks in a way best suited for us. Make no mistake, it was tough work in the heat and humidity! Yet, very rewarding since the fruits of your labour will be right in front of you. We can definitely recommend this workaway for anybody who likes being close to nature and some hard work. Thank you for everything Charlotte!

If you like animals and you are not afraid of a hard work this opportunity is for you. I spent almost two weeks and Carina's place. I helped with fixing, renovating, breaking and burning stuff. After and before work we ate together breakfest and lunch. Carina is a very good cook. Her dogs are very lovely. At first you would be overwhelmed by them, by in the end you will love all of them. I really appreciate our evenings talking about everything and nothing. It was very relaxing and rewarding. Her place is a remote area. Not too many people are, although everyone of her neighbours were extremely nice and polite! Due to quite lot of work and the fact that I was injured during my stay I didn't explore surrounding area much, but still I had an opportunity to see a bit, especially that Carina took me many times to help her with shopping and for her friend's barbecue. I learned a lot about DIY stuff and bees. Carina, thank you so much for hosting me! :)

I’m so grateful to Rachel and Dave for accepting my application at the very last minute! They were super kind, even though I didn’t have a car, they still drove to town to pick me up, and often gave me rides whenever they could. Staying with them was such a special experience. Their cozy little house in the mountains is absolutely lovely, surrounded by nature and with an amazing view of Rocky Mt right outside the door. They have two adorable and super cuddly cats who love attention, and honestly, one of my favorite moments was sitting by the fireplace, holding the cats in my arms while it was snowing outside. During my short stay, I learned a lot, had many new experiences. I even got to celebrate Thanksgiving with them and their friends, which was such a warm and memorable night. It was such a beautiful week, and I’m really happy I got the chance to stay with you!

I very much enjoyed my time with Mike and a great work away experience overall, Mike's vision for his land and home was to say the very least impressive, I admire his work ethic in bringing the dream alive , it really opened my eyes to see how much the area has changed through his efforts and how much progress you can make with permaculture when you put your mind to and the development of land. thankyou very much again Mike lovely experience with yoursef, family, other WorkAway guests and ofcorse Billy, Good luck with everything in the future. Awww thanks legends! It was such a joy having both Elliot and Leah here — you fit right in with our little crew. Loved seeing your creativity and skills in the building world, and getting to share the garden space together. You were both an absolute pleasure to have around — your energy and willingness to dive into everything made such a difference. We loved the laughs, the great chats, and seeing how much you appreciated the land and lifestyle here. River and Tao are still talking about you! You’re both welcome back anytime — wishing you all the best on your travels and creative adventures ahead! 🌿

I had the most wonderful stay with Sophie, Ant and Disco! They were so welcoming and so helpful with giving me recommendations for places to visit around Vancouver and walks to go on with Disco. Their home is beautiful and perfect for exploring the north shore and an easy direct bus into downtown. I was made to feel so welcome and was so grateful to be invited to share things like my first thanksgiving with everyone. Disco is just the sweetest, most affectionate dog and he was the perfect adventure buddy. I loved exploring the nearby trails with him - there are so many amazing spots right on the doorstep. This was my first Workaway and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I am so grateful to Sophie and Ant for their kindness.

I stayed for 2 months at this beautiful Ranch. The experience I had was amazing. Ken and Danica were wonderful hosts. They made me feel like this was my home. The ranch itself was amazing, seeing the sunrise over the mountain range, the Bison walk up past the house, the northern lights over the trees and the dogs running around. It was a joy to encounter all these things and more. You will never be short on food there and we always tried to eat together. Bernie and Isobel also lived in the other house on the Ranch and they were always up for a chat and to play Mexican train. I will miss Tilly, all the dogs and people that I met while I was staying there. I luckily got to watch the season change from summer to winter and I must say it was a blessing. I highly recommend this Ranch to anyone up for rural living. Moving trees, burn offs, conversations around the fire and watching the baby Bison grow up are all things I won't forget. (Also getting muddy from digging around the stream). Thank you for this experience and I'm sad it's over, but glad I was able to stay at this wonderful home.

We spent two wonderful weeks in our campervan at Suzanne and Jeroen’s beautiful old property, nestled amidst ancient, lush forests. During our stay, we helped with exterior repairs and painting in preparation for their wedding next summer. In return, we were treated to delicious home-cooked meals and lively entertainment from the girls. We can absolutely recommend them to other WorkAwayers!
