I had a truly meaningful experience staying with Lily and being part of the English Club. She is an incredibly dedicated and hardworking host who genuinely cares about creating a positive environment for both her team and students. From the beginning, communication was clear and expectations were well explained. I appreciated the opportunity to contribute, take initiative, and support the space in practical ways. It was rewarding to see improvements and feel that my work was valued. Lily is generous, supportive, and always striving to grow her project. I’m grateful for the trust she placed in me and for the experience overall. I wish her and the team continued success, and I would happily stay again in the future.

We had a wonderful time with Jason and Katy. They were very kind, and from the moment we communicated via message, they helped us to make our stay comfortable. Our help was physical labor, but it was something women could do, and it mainly consisted of gardening. Jason gave clear instructions, so it was very easy to work there. The house was filled with their wonderful sense of style, and it felt as comfortable as staying in a hotel. We really enjoyed sharing Japanese food. We really fell in love with Crescent Head, and we wish we could have stayed and talked with you more. We already miss you guys!! Thank you!!

Bill and Cam were fantastic hosts! We enjoyed getting the opportunity to work hard on various projects, and finding your own solutions to occurring problems was a big part of the work. The hard work was always rewarded by days off, good food and drinks, and a nice swim in the pool! Another big part of our stay was the everyday dinners where we all took turns cooking, the pair of us cooked about two meals a week. The dinners always had fun conversations and the visit gave great cultural exchange!

Dear Thomas! This was truly wonderful to read and thank you for sharing your experience in Arusha with such heart. You worked in a program where results are not immediately tangible, but where the impact is deeply foundational. This kind of work requires patience, vision, and trust and you embodied exactly what we hope to see in a volunteer. You were self-led, motivated, and fully committed, co-creating and collaborating with our local team without needing strict oversight. That mutual trust allowed the work to be meaningful and genuinely enjoyable for everyone involved. And while the results may take time to fully unfold, we know that many children - and ultimately their families, will benefit from what you started. We’re grateful for the thoughtful handover you created, which allows us to continue building on your work until we reconnect and develop it further together. We absolutely plan to stay in touch. Beyond your professional contribution, you were a real force in the house blending effortlessly with the volunteers who were here when you arrived and warmly welcoming those who joined after. Your presence helped shape the spirit of the group. Our whole team truly enjoyed spending time with you all and felt deeply appreciated. Thank you as well for your kind words about our home and environment. Everyone here does their best to create a safe, clean, welcoming, and professional space within our local circumstances - and it means a lot that you felt that. We hope this is not goodbye, but simply “see you later!”

Katie is a fun, happy, sociable, friendly, interesting person. She embraced the opportunity for local cultural experiences where she organised paid external work most afternoons, and enjoyed a few nights out. The quality of her work was good. For future hosts, I believe Katie would find it easier to meet her workaway obligations if working alongside at least one other person. I’d suggest her working style would be better suited to a flower farm, a garden centre, or a nursery, and not land restoration projects which can be quite physically demanding work. She made me laugh and kept me entertained and my feline companion Mischief thought she was lovely. I wish her all the very best in her endeavours.

My stay in Bakhtapur with Léna and Bishow was great, unfortunately I got sick during the second week and it prevented me from investing myself into the project as much as I wanted, but it was still a great adventure. Even during my illness period, all the staff were so nice with me, always bringing me the food in my room, and I felt so grateful about all these little treats. I hope everything will be going well for you at the farm, and I'm really eager to come back, hopefully in a better physical condition :)

Thank you so much for the kind words! Those three weeks truly flew by, but the memories and the friendship made will definitely stick with me. It was a joy to be welcomed into your home and given the creative freedom to paint that mural! I’m really glad I got to leave a little piece of myself there. I’ll cherish the serene atmosphere you’ve created and the lifestyle you embody. Your grounded and peaceful energy made the experience easy:) your're genuinely a cool and inspiring person to be around. You were so hospitable and made me feel so welcome from the start. I left feeling inspired by your lifestyle and grateful for the connection we built. Wishing you all the very best and will see you in the future again.

We had a great time staying over her. We spend one week here, during Tèt Holiday, and we were lucky to be there at the same time as Alice and her family. They are extremely hospitable, welcoming and kind. They really made us feel at home and immersed us in their family and Vietnamese culture. Itself is a wonderful place. Only 1,5h west of Hanoi, located on the top of a green, quiet hill. The views on the mountains are stunning. The work we had to do was very light, and mainly related to taking- and editing good photos and (drone)videos they can use for their website and (booking)profiles. Other than that we helped in taking care of the common areas, and some very simple cleaning/DIY. We highly recommend!

Jean was an absolute pleasure to host. From day one, he integrated seamlessly into our project and approached everything with professionalism and care. He helped us significantly with our social media presence, creating high-quality content that truly captured the spirit of the place. His work was thoughtful, well executed, and aligned beautifully with our vision. He also did a fantastic job preparing the spaces for guests and managing check-in and check-out. He handled responsibilities with organization and attention to detail, which is incredibly important in our operation. We felt confident trusting him with real responsibility. He communicated clearly, followed through on commitments, and maintained a positive attitude throughout his stay. We’re genuinely grateful for his contribution and would welcome him back anytime. Any host would be lucky to have him.

Honest Review We agreed clearly on 5 working days and 2 days off. After one week, the host asked me to be flexible and work 6 days with 1 day off. I agreed in good faith. However, when I later took my second day off (based on our original agreement), I was told it was a “misunderstanding.” Shortly after, I was informed that the host no longer wanted volunteers and that if I wished to stay, I would need to pay for accommodation. What made this more confusing was that another volunteer was allowed to continue staying. Throughout my stay, communication was clear and respectful.... yet decisions and expectations seemed to change unexpectedly, day after day, without consistency with previous agreements. Flexibility should go both ways. Clear agreements should be honored. I genuinely wish the host well and hope the system and communication process can improve, so clarity and respectful agreements become the priority for future Workawayers. Transparency is always better.

Carla was a joy to host. She was a hard worker who asked if anything was not clear. She was great company. I highly recommend her and I hope she has a wonderful time in New Zealand.

We had a wonderful experience staying in Sovannarith's house! His family is welcoming and nice, and the children of the school are wonderful! The house is situated in a small village and right next to the school, so there is no need to commute. You give classes 3 to 4 times a day, depending on the amount of volunteers around. The level of English of the children vary, but they are all eager to learn and in a good mood! Walking around the village was also a nice experience, as everyone smiles and waives at you; very welcoming! I would definitely recommend staying with Sovannarith, as you will learn a lot about the Khmer culture and it is wonderful to be with the kids (both teaching and playing during breaks)!

I stayed with Tim & Sophie for a week and what a fantastic week it was. They are deeply inspiring and welcoming people. I am delighted to have had the experience of contributing briefly to the restoration of part of the façade. I learned a lot in a short time thanks to their patience and detailed explanations. I loved the house, which is truly unique and cosy and I also loved the family and community atmosphere, the fantastic food and the homemade bread. Finally, Tim and Sophie are very organised and very clear about what they expect from their visitors, which makes things much easier! I highly recommend an experience with them!

I think when you imagine what you'd like to find out if a volunteer you'd be imagining these guys, self-starting energetic intelligent capable and diligent . Not only did they do all the tasks we threw at them but they came up with many improvements on their own and kept themselves busy , we also had a lot of laughs a ton of fun adventures and some creative inspired moments together and I would love to have these guys back anytime

I had a wonderful time staying at Sarndra's home. She is a very inspiring person with fantastic stories to tell, who lovingly develops her beautiful crazy garden and terraces. She creates a warm, family-like and friendly atmosphere in her home, with several workawayers under her roof. I felt at home there and met some wonderful people. I highly recommend the experience!

I had an amazing experience at the villa last year (2025). I helped with social media content creation for the centre itself and also for it's yoga teachers who were running retreats there. The staff are very friendly and always available should you need - I was given a lot of freedom to manage my time but also received guidance which was a good balance. The food was amazing, and the shared room very comfortable.

Our host family's home is located in a quiet town surrounded by nature. The house looked straight out of a storybook. Our host family is strict Buddhist, and we calmed by listening to the Buddhist chants with the fragrant tea Hemantha brewed every morning. They taught us a lot about the Buddhist mindset, which we hope to apply to our future life. Nisha can cook high-quality meals very quickly. She is also very good with her hands, and her sewing skills made the room even more beautiful. Rukshan is a very studious and earnest young man. He always made sure we were comfortable. He took us to various places around Bandarawela. It was a very memorable adventure! Our poor English may have exhausted them, but they were very kind and dealt with us. Thank you for everything.
