Description
My name is Áine. I'm Irish but I've been living in France for almost half my life. I am a self-employed consultant, but I also run a non-profit activity in my village, Chalabre, which is close to the Pyrenees in France. In an old building I co-own, I am setting up a co-working and co-creation space. There is also a social café and cultural space.
The building is partially renovated, but there's still lots to do.
For this, I could do with some help. We need to finish decorating the different spaces. Plastering, painting, clearing mostly.
The help is varied but it's enjoyable.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Chalabre is a village of about 1000 people. Different nationalities live here so French and English are the main languages heard in the street. It's about 30 minutes from bigger towns like Mirepoix, Limoux or Lavelanet where there is train connection to Toulouse and Carcassonne. There are lovely walks, interesting villages to see and several Cathare castles in the area.
Public transport is a challenge, so we will work things out as we go.
We speak both English and French at home, and will adapt to our Workawayer's preference.
Help
Mostly, the help will involve getting the building ready. We will be plastering, painting, wiring, decorating etc...
Generally I try to do 3 days a week there.
At home, I may need you to help out with the house or walking my dog, Poppy when I'm busy.
In addition, some days could be dedicated to cultural events, we need help with social media and organising the events.
The help will be varied but will require some flexibility. Sometimes we may work a whole day and then take a whole day off, it will depend on what needs to be done. We will plan week by week.
If you like gardening, and have ideas for landscaping, we could get the garden sorted at the building.

Accommodation
You will have the use of an apartment, with your own bedroom. You will have your own kitchen, bathroom and toilet, unless there is an additional workawayer or I have family visiting.
We can have our meals together and you are welcome to cook if you like to.
What else ...
In 2018/2019, my husband and I travelled around the world and were hosted as Workawayers in Australia and New Zealand. We absolutely loved the experience and want to offer the same hospitality to other travellers.
I have a busy weekday lifestyle, but at weekends, I like to walk, go to local markets and see friends. You are welcome to join in any weekend activities we do. As we do not have a great public transport system in our area, we will be happy to bring you to the nearest towns and guide you on things to visit.

I have a female dog. She's very sweet with humans. She's generally ok with male dogs, and fine with any dogs that are calm and ignore her. The accomodation is on the first floor, and is independent from the rest of the house.

How many Workawayers can stay?
Two
