My time here was more than wonderful. The connections I made, the new skills I learned from the workshops, and the experiences I had around the island were all so memorable. Work is what you make it, and you can switch it up based on your mood and energy level. Everyone cares about the space and the collective well-being, so it is not difficult to find motivation to contribute. It felt like gaining a whole new family -- I am so grateful for all of the beautiful souls I met. I will keep them in my heart as I continue my travels! Thank you for everything 🫶🏼

Thank you very much Guy for joining us for a few weeks, it was great having you here. During Guys time here, we worked mostly on the land, pruning trees, chopping wood and clearing the land. Guy works in a very calm and easygoing way and is happy to take instruction and get on with the job, no messing around. He keeps very good timekeeping, communication, a very friendly nature and shows willingness at all times to engage with those around him. He's welcome back here anytime. Best of luck out there Guy and have fun on your onward travels. Graham and family

Auguste was a wonderful Workawayer and a real pleasure to host. She is intelligent, kind, and very easy to have around the house. Auguste helped us a lot in the garden and with daily tasks, always with care and enthusiasm. She has a lovely calm nature and a great laugh that brought a lot of joy to our home. Auguste fitted in beautifully with our family life and enjoyed being part of local outings and community activities. She is thoughtful, reliable, and brings a very positive energy. Any host would be lucky to welcome her. Thank you Auguste for your help, your kindness, and for being part of our home for a while. We wish you all the very best for the rest of your travels. Safe travels and you are always welcome back here in Rotorua.

I've lived with this amazing family from January to the beginning of March, and the experience has been even better than I could ever have hoped for. You immediately feel like you are part of the family and not just someone who has a job to do in the house. The parents are creative in different ways, which gives you unique opportunities. And with that being said, the child loves to be creative and is always willing to learn new things. Two months have passed by, but I already know that I have to come back to the beautiful city and the amazing family, who are now my Spanish family.

It was a great pleasure to stay with Coral. She ,ade me instantly feel welcome in her home. We had great talks and got a lot of work done. We scraped the house, did some weeding, gardening and other tasks. I stayed two weeks with Coral and I had a great time working and chatting with you. Coral showed me around town, took me to a party, to see stingrays, live music and Trivia. So I really got to know the place and the people and had a great cultural exchange. Also Coral helped me out a great deal with my first aid certificate and surf-life-saving course wich I could have not got to do without her help and connections! She looked out for me and helped where she could wich I appreciated a lot. Work was hard but hard sometimes but she always made sure I was feeling good and didn‘t overwork me. Also Coral is an amazing cook and I really enjoyed the meals especially the treats. :) Coral also gave me the freedom to check the surf on several occasions during the day. Thank you for everything and I really hope to see you again.

I stayed with him for about one month, and I’m very glad I had the chance to come here. His place is in a very quiet area surrounded by canals, close to the German border. Sometimes I joined him on his weekly grocery trips to Germany, which was a fun and interesting part of the experience. He is always ready to share what he knows. During meals, while working, or when we went out together, he told me many things about the Netherlands and the local area. Not only facts, but also the history and cultural background behind them. There are many things I would never have learned if I had not stayed with him. Originally I came to help prepare the garden for spring, but this winter was particularly cold, so we spent much more time indoors. In addition to regular cleaning, I helped take care of old furniture that had been passed down through his family, and we made jam from fruit he had harvested in the warmer seasons. Food is clearly one of his passions. He cooked dinner almost every evening and introduced me to many different kinds of dishes. Besides traditional Dutch food, he also prepared Indonesian and Surinamese meals, which are historically connected to Dutch food culture. He also shared recipes he had learned from many Workawayers over the years. During weekdays he usually works during the day, so I often spent time on my own. There are not many strict rules apart from breakfast and dinner times, which made the stay very comfortable and relaxed. I also really enjoyed spending time with his unique and lovely animals. The dog Anas and the cats Yarnel and Robert were great companions. The cats often came to wake me up in the morning, and in the evenings we spent time together near the fireplace. His daughter Sveva is also a wonderful lady. I still remember visiting the children’s farm where he works and brushing a pony together with her. He is also very curious and enjoys learning about other cultures. I shared many stories about Japan with him, and he kindly let me cook Japanese food several times, which I really appreciated. Overall this was a meaningful and memorable stay. I learned a lot, experienced everyday life in this region, and felt very welcomed in his home.

Workawaying hwew was such a fun and memorable experience! From the moment I arrived it felt like a really social and welcoming place, both for Workawayers and guests. It’s the kind of hostel where there’s always something going on and it’s very easy to meet people from all over the world and cuddle with Lashi, the hostel cat ❤️ The work was straightforward and manageable, mainly helping out around the hostel and keeping things running smoothly. The team works well together and everyone was really supportive, which made the shifts feel relaxed and enjoyable rather than stressful and you have days off to travel around Albania if that's what you'd like to do - a really beautiful country One of the best parts of staying here was definitely the atmosphere. The hostel has a really cosy vibe and there were plenty of opportunities to hang out with other Workawayers and travellers. It felt less like “work” and more like being part of a little community. I made some great friends during my time here both Workawayers and guests and have lots of funny memories from nights out, shared meals, and the general chaos that comes with hostel life. And Nanna and Rovina are amazing cooks! If you enjoy meeting new people, social environments, and being part of a team, this is a great place to Workaway. Thanks for the experience and all the good times Disi xox I'll be back ❤️❤️

I stayed five days here in Narangala, and it was a truly special experience. The place is located in a small mountain village surrounded by beautiful nature and a very peaceful atmosphere. The local people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Rubeenson and his family are kind, generous, and very hospitable. The meals prepared by Rubensson’s mother were absolutely delicious, some of the best food I had in Sri Lanka! During your free time, you can enjoy wonderful walks in nature, relax by nearby waterfalls, and even swim there. It’s the perfect place to slow down, connect with nature, and discover a very authentic side of Sri Lanka. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a peaceful place, beautiful surroundings, and a warm, welcoming family.

David and Hayley were amazing workawayers and the loveliest, down to earth people with a beautiful manner and endearing personalities. I felt very privileged to meet and host them. I would not usually have workawayers cook for me but Oh wow .....I am still enjoying the flavoursome, healthy meals Hayley made for me to put in the freezer. As a professional chef, she knows how to look at what you've got to come up with delicious meals. This was such a treat! Dave has a broad repertoire of skills - he serviced my air conditioners, the gator and ride on mower, whipper snipped, fixed my robotic vacuum and much more. Both Hayley and Dave were resourceful, worked effectively and used their initiative. I said "If you see something which needs doing, please do it". Nothing was too much trouble. I feel so grateful for all of the work they did both inside and outside on my farm. They were respectful and left my cottage in tip top condition. Anyone around the world would be lucky to have Dave and Hayley as individuals or as a couple as Workawayers. Thanks so much guys! Guess what I'm having tonight? Hayley's superb meatballs - Yummo!

Paphatchaya is a wonderful person, and her property is a beautiful slice of joy away from everything. It was lovely to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a while. When you are here, you are far enough from the city to enjoy the peaceful woods, but not so far that logistics become impossible. There are plenty of beautiful small towns within biking distance, and you’ll have enough time to meet local shopkeepers and make friends in the nearby villages. There is even a little wet/dry market within cycling distance. Si Sa Ket City is also close enough for an affordable taxi ride; I actually had a dental emergency during my visit and had no trouble getting help. This was perfect for us as a couple—basically two weeks away from the world. If you are a solo traveler and arrive when there are no other Workawayers, it may get a little quiet, but perhaps two weeks of solitude is exactly what you’re looking for. Her mom lives nearby and is friendly and patient when communicating via a translator app. Sometimes small miscommunications happen between her and Paphatchaya, but nothing that can’t be easily resolved. There’s a small fridge and kitchen, perfect for preparing meals for two. If you have more people, I could see it becoming difficult to prepare a full meal in the space, but the rice cooker and kettle make things very convenient. Nothing will take away from the amazing experience we had here. If you’ve read all of this and it sounds like something you’d enjoy, I definitely recommend it.

The host provided an own accommodation for me, in a house up the hill from where they live themselves, and the house I stayed in had everything I needed. Their place is situated in a nice, quiet area in a small village. We worked on a field and prepared it for the spring, and we also worked with cutting wood. I think it was a nice experience and I like the ideas they had about ecological farming. Helga and her husband are very helpful and easy to speak with. I enjoyed the time I spent at their place.

Alice stayed with me for 2 weeks and I found her to be an absolute treasure. Alice has a friendly easy going personality, she was fun to be around, I found her to be an excellent communicator, she is respectful and has an a terrific work ethic. Alice is also a very independent person arriving by car and in her spare time would go find surf or do a bush walk. Alice mowed my lawns, whipped and snipped and weeded which are not an easy tasks as I live on a hill. Alice also cleaned the windows of my large house and scrubbed an external timber wall. Alice is a competent person and completed all the jobs in good time and with a smiling face. Alice was also a great house guest helping out in the kitchen with meals and dishes. Alice has good interpersonal skills, is fun company and was well liked and accepted by the local community. Alice also showed a great appreciation for the local environment and wildlife. I can totally recommend Alice to any other host as a great workaway to have come stay with you. I wish her all the very best and hope our paths cross again one day.

Gian stayed with us for a couple of weeks through Workaway, and he was honestly one of the best volunteers we’ve ever had. From the moment he arrived he brought an incredibly positive attitude and energy to everything he did. He is easily the hardest-working Workaway we’ve hosted so far. Nothing was ever a problem for him—he just got on with the job, worked hard, and always did it with a smile. His willingness to help with anything made a huge difference while he was here. Gian also fitted in beautifully with our whole family. He was friendly, respectful, and genuinely great to have around. His outlook on life is inspiring—always positive, happy, and grateful—which made him a pleasure to host. We honestly couldn’t rate him more highly. If Gian applies to stay with you, I would absolutely recommend welcoming him. He’s a fantastic Workaway and any host would be lucky to have him.

Haruka, Kouichi and Kotaro, From the first day Julie and I felt so welcome. It was an absolute joy working in the fields with Kouichi-san. We worked hard and laughed harder. Haruka-san the love and pride you take in your home and family is so clear. Thank you for sharing your stories, warmth and incredible cooking with us. Both of your dedication to community and natural living is very inspiring. Spending time with Kouichi, Haruka and Kotaro was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Truly unforgettable 🫶 Good luck in the growing season! MABUSHI 🤩

I stayed with Bettina for 8 days. She is a sweet and gentle woman and very busy. I only saw her in the evening when she came back from work and a bit in the weekend. She lives in a great old house with a nice garden, and there are always things to be done. Nambour has a lot of nice places around and the beach not too far away. Unfortunately the weather was very bad - raining for days - and that made everything a bit heavy. Thank you Bettina for your kindness, nice food and wine. Hope to see you again.

Volunteering here was an absolutely amazing experience. I love how Marcus, founder and principal, set it up to be a cultural exchange between volunteers, students, and teachers. I really felt a part of the school and I have never saw a better group of teachers and students. All the other volunteers I worked beside were kind and thoughtful. I really appreciate how you had a careful balance between autonomy and guidance. I look forward to returning to see how the students and teachers progress!

Lishan is one of the best Workawayers we have ever hosted, and we feel incredibly blessed to have had her with us. She truly goes out of her way to understand the needs of the hostel and contributes wherever she can. What stands out most is that she is here not as a tourist, but as a traveler who genuinely wants to understand the local way of life. Lishan is extremely capable and communicates very effectively. She takes the time to appreciate the people she works with, and her kindness is felt by everyone around her. Both our guests and our team have been very happy to have her here. Coming from a first-world country, she still goes above and beyond to make herself useful in every way possible — whether it is helping with tech work, housekeeping, hosting guests, or even setting up excursions. She contributes wholeheartedly to everything she does. She has such a kind heart and is truly a gem. Anyone who has the chance to host her in the future will be very lucky.

Estelle and her partner Victor were excellent WorkAwayers: they were extremely friendly, treated the apartment entrusted to them with care and worked diligently to support me in the seasonal work in the olive grove. They were always open and interested in the background to olive cultivation. I would be delighted to welcome them back to the south of the Peloponnese.
