We only stayed at Marco and Mel’s for a short time but the hospitality we received when there was incredible. We gained some amazing knowledge of the area from Marco. Their dogs are the cutest and the wildlife around the cabin is amazing. If you’re excited by the idea of being secluded and surrounded by nature, and learning a lot about Australian wildlife and gaining some really useful skills, we would definitely reccomended this workaway for you! ☺️

Marcos and Karamjot are two extremely kind and helpful hosts. I was lucky enough to stay with them for two weeks over the Christmas holidays and had a very authentic and unforgettable time in Andalusia. The work was explained in detail and the working hours were flexible. I felt at home from the very first moment and cannot thank them enough for everything. We also had some very interesting conversations, and I am already looking forward to seeing them both again one day.

It's a shame I have to leave Marie and David. I spent a wonderful week with them, filled with laughter, camaraderie, baking, and gardening! They showed me their work on the farm with calves and sheep. They even stopped what they were doing to show me the different stages of silage production 😍. They were so generous and thoughtful! And I lost miserably at Rumikub 😞 Thank you for these shared moments! Thank you Marie for cooking for us as if we were royalty 😋 I hope to see you again very soon.

My friend and I unfortunately didn't finish our workaway program here. It was different from what we expected it should be. We thought we would be part of the family as well, but that's not the case. You live totally separately from the family and they don't include the volunteers into their daily life. For us it felt more like we were employees and they were the boss. The also talked about the work in a business way. Well for us we think more in a person centered way and we don't see volunteering as just being cheap employees. Besides that the kids are lovely. They're so used to different volunteers that it is easy for them to adapt to you, but on the other side we think it is a bit sad that they never form these special bonds with their teachers, especially now their mean teacher left and it's unsure if and when she's coming back. That was another thing we struggeled with. There is no main teacher at the moment, only another volunteer who was there for only 2 months when we came and he behaved like he owned the place. In our experience he hadn't had a lot of exprience with children. After saying we wanted to leave a week earlier (after 3 weeks instead of 4) all of a sudden we had to leave in two days. It was sad that it ended with an escalation with this volunteer and the host due to a disagreement. Which resulted in this volunteer screamed to me I acted like a child. Both of us cried and the host kept saying that she hoped one day we are standing in her shoes so we understand here. We didn't had the feeling that she tried to understand our positions. She listened to us, but there weren't any specific solutions. Be aware that it is really hard to get around. A taxi to Puerto Jimenez is 25 dollars and the hosts are not bringing you. That after the escalation it was suddenly possible for them to bring us to the busstop felt like she was trying to make us feel good even they never offered to bring us somewhere. Al in all, no good vibes for us.

Noemi & Paul are two nice and kind young people that I had the pleasure to host according to my project concept. Their interaction with me, the place, the other people around and the dogs was smooth and easy. Hopefully if you have the chance to meet them don't miss the chance! They will share with you their energy and skills either for work or just for an easy going day :)

We had a fantastic week at Mel and Raf's. They are lovely and very welcoming people. The food was amazing; we already miss the Italian pizzas and French bread! We were able to improve our English, (thank you for your patience 😄) The accommodation was really cozy. The work was reasonable; we could divide our hours as we wished (handy when the weather is bad). We were lucky to discover a part of the beekeeper job, and we were very happy about it, thanks Melanie. We are delighted to have met such wonderful people—family, neighbors... it's an experience we won't forget. Thank you for your hospitality and generosity. Maëlys et Quentin

Staying with Krisztina was one of the best experience we had in our life. We had the chance to discover so much about lake atitlan and to meet beautiful people. Krisztina made us feel like we were home, and our casita was amazing, we were really confortable in it. We had so much fun with the dogs! They are easy to walk and they love their morning walk so it's really nice to spend the morning with them. We did other tasks like doing the grocery, helping preparing diner, painting pipes or harvesting tumeric (that was so interesting!) We were always so excited about the diner because krisztina's food is amazing and she made us discover so much things in her magic kitchen! We also had so many fun evening playing card and talking about life. We will forever remember this amazing experience and we are very grateful for everything, it was trully one of the best place we've been in our life. Thank you so much Krisztina, if we come back to Guatemala we will come here again for sure! Cam & Clem xxxx

Marlene arrived early November for what was to be a two week stay and now nearly three months later is getting ready to leave for her next adventure. If she applies to your place you will be lucky to host her. She has been an amazing help during her time here. From helping in the gardens, preparing wood for the winter fires to fantastic assistance with inside renovations which included painting and decorating, mud plastering, pointing stone work and stripping down old doors and windows. She is able to turn her hand to all sorts and has a great attitude. I will be sorry to see her leave

Amber & James are more than 5 🌟 workawayers. They left earlier to ensure the storm did not prevent them catching their long haul flight back to the USA . In the 4 days they worked, an amazing great deal was accomplished. Right from the first day, I could see how fast & efficiently they set about the initial tasks. They worked beautifully together and completed the work so quickly it made me feel dizzy. From that most impressive initial introduction to how they carried out tackling the work, I basically left them to work out they own schedule. They didn't need to be supervised. The way Amber & James worked together was like watching an orchestra, so very well conducted❣️ Thank you A & J for leaving me a superbly crafted set of steps from the deck down to the garden below. As requested the first step was extra wide & deep to double as a bench & space to place drinks & food on. I later noticed the sides of the steps & saw how carefully & neatly they were boxed in too. It clearly shows how much pride they both take in what they do. The French word 'artisan' comes to mind. Even on the leaving day (raining too) James fashioned a rail by the steps to keep me safe 🙏🙏🙏 It's great a start was made to put in a pond/waterfall. Their suggestion to visit Paradise Quarry turned out to be a fascinating treasure hunt for the lovely multi-hued rocks. The rain & wind did not stop us from climbing over piles of 'gems'. In the 5 days Amber & James spent with me, they were able to make big inroads into the long to-do list. It was also a very enjoyable time for me in all we did. Yoga, Scrabble, Chinese checkers,.. Amber, James, thank you so very much for the gifts you brought into my life - especially the laughter. I will think of you both every time I use the bench/steps. Can't wait to use it - I think the sun is peeking out again today. Wishing you a safe & smooth flight home. And may you achieve/manifest easily the things on your list. Yes, looking forward to your excellent company in the near future. 🥰

We spent an amazing week at the farm. We were in charge of our time management and really enjoyed the meal we had together every day. Kathryn and Ross always checked if we were okay with the jobs they offered and they were really. happy to integrate our skills and ideas we had. The farm is a very relaxing, remote and beautiful place, good to come down. Thanks for the amazing experience. We have learned a lot.

hello :) we, paula and chris, spent about 5 months in markus’ house in dafins, from summer into late autumn. markus’ hospitality is absolutely on point and we deeply appreciated it. we couldn’t have chosen a better host for our first workaway experience – that doesn’t mean it was always easy :) but it doesn’t always have to be easy – every experience is valuable. we navigated very beautiful and very challenging times together and everything contributed greatly to our personal growth. let’s be honest: the work is partly (depending on the area) very demanding and can sometimes drive you a little crazy – which is usually self-imposed – because there is always space to communicate. but that lies within one’s own responsibility. if you manage to open your mouth, peaceful solutions are found in conversation, whether one-on-one with the lord of the house or within the group. markus has a huge heart, big ears that listen well, and open arms when you need a hug. nobody’s perfect and putting ideals into practice is rarely easy – but a level of openness to criticism like markus shows is something we have rarely – maybe never – experienced before. he genuinely cares about fairness and about everyone being well. of course, sometimes annoying work has to be done, but there is a general interest in balancing that out with cool work as well – unless you want to torture yourself, then you’re free to do annoying work for days. you have that freedom too – you just need to be aware that everything you don’t change, you choose. :) the man has big visions, but you can contribute at your own pace, in the things that suit you or that you’re interested in. we found that mega. for the work you do, you get a lot back, and we would judge the exchange as really fair. the rooms are comfortable, the care and the food are fantastic (when someone cooks who knows how ;D). right now, sitting in costa rica eating the best papaya in the world, we’re dreaming of rob’s delicious bread and the amazing local cheese. we experienced quiet as well as turbulent times – it can get pretty busy when the house is full, but we have hope that the occupancy of the house will be a bit more balanced in the future ;D cooking for more than 10 people is quite something, but also a good exercise for life, like so much of what you experience here. no skill is useless! overall, there are endless opportunities for growth here. if you want, you have time for yourself, and you can also build enriching connections, form friendships with people from all over the world. you'll probably laugh your butt off with amazing people you otherwise would've never met, and maybe you'll shed a few tears too when saying goodbye. a perfect training ground to practice social intelligence, emotional intelligence, communication. there is so much to learn :) we’re forever grateful for our time in dafins and are already looking forward to coming back. we love you, magda, rob, markus, luter, akira and the duckies :) kisses and hugs to you all!

I stayed for a good two weeks and felt incredibly safe. Bonface gave me a very warm welcome at the start. I really appreciated that he quickly trusted me to work with a lot of autonomy and independence, giving me the space to drive my own projects. I used this freedom to teach music, assist with the computer course, and help out with the feeding program—seeing the meals being prepared on charcoal was impressive! Another highlight was helping at a neighboring school, sorting and distributing donated uniforms to the children. Since I wanted to make the most of my time, my days were packed! The activities usually went on until after 4 PM, and I loved spending my breaks with the kids too (who sweetly walked me home). Combining this full dedication with exploring the city in the evenings was an adventure – looking back, I’d recommend future volunteers to perhaps plan a few extra days just to relax and process all the beautiful impressions! The exchange went both ways: the children were so open and even taught me how to play chess. A huge thank you to Joshua, who is such a warm-hearted person and great for deep conversations. Also, Agnes, Tony, and Sam were amazing, and honestly, every single staff member and volunteer was a huge support. Finally, I have to mention Grace’s delicious cooking, which really makes you feel at home. All in all, I had a wonderful time here and I really hope to come back someday!

Ilse came at the residency for a month. She came across very calm and collected, focused and really keen to get involved with the local community that we serve. She created an impressive social media content for the project, did community photography, and painting. I did not get as much involved with Ilse as I would have loved to because it was a busy season. However, she was self-driven enough and managed to get work done within available time and resource. I'm very thankful for her commitment to what she came here for, and her last days transferring some editing skills into the residency. We cannot measure her humility, modesty and integrity during her stay. We will keep in touch with Ilse.

Thomas is a very friendly, polite person, he works hard, he is a wonderful friend for my dog- my conclusion: he is the perfect workawayer even he looses when we are playing Skipbo, he never looses his humor.;-) I am happy to have him her around me, and to know that there will be a wonderful, trustful houskeeper when I will be away. It would be wonderful to welcome him again!
