She was not just a worker, but truly like a member of our family. During her stay, we had people from various parts of Asia working together Yang Yang from China, jeongmin from Korea, Yujia from China, and Ayane from Japan. It really felt like a gathering of East Asia, with one Finnish member, Päivikki, joining us. But she got along with everyone so naturally, and whenever Päivikki was around, there was always laughter. She is incredibly hardworking. Without being told, she would wash the dishes and always keep the kitchen spotless. We have hosted nearly 300 people so far, but Päivikki was the first person who would prepare our futons for us before we went to sleep without ever being asked. Whenever I was cooking, she would stand beside me and help, and after meals she would actively help with washing dishes and cleaning up. When Päivikki was at home, we could relax and trust her with everything. She has a slightly unique personality, in a good way. We played UNO together almost every day, and she has her own particular quirks and never bends her way of doing things. Also, no matter what rice dish it was curry or bibimbap she would always put sesame dressing on it lol. Funny, right? But that’s part of what makes her who she is. We were truly lucky to have Päivikki come to us. It’s been a long time since we met someone who gave us such a deep sense of comfort and trust. She can handle anything with ease, is full of kindness, and always anticipates what others need and acts on it. Yesterday, Yang Yang came to visit for just one day, and it felt like we had gone back to the days when Päivikki and Yang Yang worked together. It was such a wonderful time. Thank you for such a dreamlike time. I’m sure I’ll cry when you leave. But please, definitely come back again. We’ll be looking forward to it.

En français: C’était mon premier Workaway et cela a largement dépassé mes attentes. Ils sont venus me chercher à la gare de Macau le soir de mon arrivée et m’ont emmené(e) à Blanquefort. Dès le début, ils ont été très gentils et attentionnés avec moi. Ils m’ont également invité(e) à passer du temps avec leurs amis, tous très sympathiques. Leur fille Mila est aussi adorable. De plus, ils parlent très bien anglais et aident volontiers avec le français, ce qui est un vrai plus si vous apprenez la langue. Dans l’ensemble, c’est une famille charmante qui vit dans un endroit très agréable, spacieux et confortable. Des vélos sont disponibles si besoin, et ils respectent votre espace ainsi que votre liberté. Les tâches sont clairement expliquées dès le départ. Je reviendrais sans hésitation et je recommande vivement cette expérience. Reseña en español ue mi primer Workaway y superó ampliamente mis expectativas. Fueron a recogerme a la estación de tren de Macau la noche de mi llegada y me llevaron a Blanquefort. Desde el primer momento fueron muy amables y atentos conmigo. Me invitaron a compartir tiempo con sus amigos, todos muy agradables. Su hija Mila también es muy linda. Además, hablan muy bien inglés y te ayudan con el francés, lo cual es un gran plus si estás aprendiendo el idioma. En general, es una familia encantadora y viven en un lugar muy bonito, espacioso y cómodo. También disponen de bicicletas si las necesitas, y respetan tu espacio y tu libertad. Las tareas están bien explicadas y son claras desde el principio. Sin duda volvería y lo recomiendo totalmente.

Tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir una semana con Eva y fue una experiencia muy positiva 😊 Desde el primer momento se mostró amable, respetuosa y con una actitud muy abierta hacia todo lo que hacíamos en el proyecto. Es una persona muy dispuesta a ayudar, siempre con interés en aprender y en involucrarse en las tareas diarias. Disfruta mucho de los pequeños momentos del día a día, lo cual encaja perfectamente con la dinámica de la vida en la granja y con los animales, especialmente con las llamas 🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🚶‍♀️ Además, es muy fácil convivir con ella. Su energía positiva y curiosidad por nuevas experiencias hicieron que su estadía fuera muy agradable, aprendí mucho de sus aventuras! Me encantó mi tiempo en la estancia de Ricardo. El lugar es increíblemente hermoso y Ricardo es un excelente y amable anfitrión, con muchas historias para compartir. El trabajo fue interesante (construimos una estructura para paneles solares) y hubo tiempo de sobra para relajarse y hacer senderismo. Lo recomiendo mucho! I loved my time at Ricardo’s Estancia. The place is incredibly beautiful and Ricardo is an excellent and kind host, with many stories to share. The work was interesting (we built a structure for solar panels) and there was plenty of time to relax and go hiking. I recommend it highly!

The original plan was for Lucy to stay for two weeks, but in the end she stayed for almost two months. During that time, we sailed from Malta to Greece, with a brief one-week stop in Sicily, Italy. Lucy had no previous sailing experience before arriving on the boat, yet she handled a 48-hour passage in 30 to 40 knots of wind remarkably well. I asked her several times whether she was afraid, but she never was. Lucy helped me a great deal with organizing the boat and keeping everything clean. She took excellent care of the boat, and her presence brought a warm and pleasant atmosphere on board. Thank you for staying with me on the boat I truly had a great time. I hope you learned a lot during your time here, and I am sure you did. I hope to see you again sometime, because you are always very welcome to come back.

I spent (almost!!) two months with Daniel, and every minute was an incredible experience. Daniel’s patience, kindness, and passion for sailing and creating a positive environment is more than evident in every way. There is always a great balance between work and free time, with rewarding and enjoyable work, in which I learnt various new skills, especially related to sailing and boat maintenance. I cannot recommend Daniel enough as a workaway host for anyone open minded and seeking an unforgettable experience - thank you again!!! <3

Namaste! I am so happy to host Maria. She is such a wonderful lady who understands everything about workawayers role. We have had so amazing times together in Dhulikhel. This was an incredible experience! I had planned to stay 4 weeks and ended up staying 7. The dogs were majestic; athletic, friendly and full of personality. I took them out three times a day, so they could get some exercise, potty and socialize with the other dogs. They are all treated extremely well. They were all happy and healthy.I really enjoyed them. I learned a lot about pack mentality and all the nuances involved. I miss them already! Klaus and Wiebke were great! Kind, smart, patient and understanding. They are hard working people and just love all of their dogs. They are nature people, with a lot of skills and interests. We had dinner together every night, which was always healthy and yummy. We had really nice conversations all the time, and I thoroughly enjoyed their company. I would highly recommend this location, if you are a dog person that enjoys the company of two very lovely people. I am happy I made two new friends!

Massimo is a very friendly and cheerful person. It was a real pleasure communicating and spending time with him and with his amazing parrots 😆 Unfortunately, I didn’t stay for very long, but the memories I have are only the best ones. The work was not difficult, and he gave us a lot of freedom in managing our time. He even treated us with his great cooking skills, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I’m truly grateful to Massimo and wish him all the best. Ti auguro tanta fortuna, Massimo!🤗

Andrijana is a wonderful person. I had a truly great time staying with her and her children. She is very easy to communicate with and a genuinely pleasant person to be around. Her kids are joyful, fun, and full of energy. It was always a pleasure to spend time with them and play together. I felt very comfortable during my stay — almost like at home. I’m truly grateful to Andrijana for this experience. I believe that anyone who stays with her will also have a great time. Želim puno sreće, Andrijana. 🤗

We stayed at Michelle and Len's place for a month during winter, and our experience was mixed. We really enjoyed spending time with and taking care of the animals, which was our main responsibility. We had some really good days at the ranch - sometimes we were dropped off to do a hike in the area, and our favourite activity was to run with the dogs around the cowfield. However, the tone in which tasks and instructions were sometimes communicated did not always feel polite or appreciative. Communication overall was inconsistent – at times we felt warmly welcomed, while at other times we felt more like a burden. These shifts made it difficult to fully relax, as we often felt like we had to tiptoe around the situation. We also felt that we were being compared to some of their many previous workawayers. Additionally, we do not really know why the profile says 5 hours a day for 5 days a week because Michelle was very clear that that is not how it works at a ranch. We worked usually less than or around 5 hour per day, but we worked every day during our stay. We felt fine with this, but it could have been made clear in the profile. Some other positive aspects of the workaway was the lovely accommodation (we stayed in Grandpa Len's house since it was not being rented out during the winter). Michelle and Len prepared fantastic meals every night and they were really good at providing vegetarian options for us. However, I think we had higher hopes regarding an exchange in experience and getting to know each other.

My workaway on Uttam place was a great experience and totally recommend it! The place is really beautiful, has a really nice common areas, beautiful rooftop whith views to the Himalayas. Rooms are confortable and cosy. There is different types of works to do: cleaning, helping cooking, gardening or anything artistic that may help to improve the place. The work is only a couple of hours per day and you can enjoy the rest of the time. Uttam is a wonderful guest and has a very big and kind heart. He made me feel at home and i am very grateful for sharing this time with him. Also Sahadev his nephew is really kind, hard working and will make your stay the best posible. All my time there i felt i was at home, and as a solo female traveler i felt very safe. I liked the place so much that i extended my stay there and also came back after some weeks. I highly recommend this experience to everyone.

Siamo felici di aver ospitato Simone, un ragazzo brillante, curioso e sempre disponibile. Ha fatto uno splendido lavoro al frutteto con la potatura e ci ha aiutato con tutti gli altri lavori dal giardinaggio alla manutenzione, portando sempre gioia, precisione e puntualità. Abbiamo apprezzato anche il suo modo di porsi rispetto alla comunità, con rispetto e interesse. Con le nostre chiacchierate abbiamo viaggiato insieme tra antropologia e cultura, ed è stato molto bello e arricchente per tutti noi. Ha legato molto con gli altri volontari ed è nato un gruppo sempre più affiatato che ha reso semplice e divertente lavorare nel nostro progetto. Speriamo di rivederlo presto, lo consigliamo vivamente a tutti gli altri host!

Xuezhen is very hard-working. Her main project whilst she was here was to help build a new path connecting the upper and lower gardens. She tackled this work with infectious energy and enthusiasm, which carried her fellow Workawayers along to produce amazing results. She’s an excellent judge of character and has great people skills. I got the impression that she was able to help her workmates develop greater self-awareness from being around her, which is a real talent. Xuezhen is originally from China but has lived in Europe for several years and studied at a French university. So she is equally comfortable in both cultures, East and West, and was able to provide us all with some interesting insights. A hard worker, a charming person and a great Workawayer. Thoroughly recommended.

My experience on the farm was so good. I stayed for a month and met many wonderful, interesting people from all over the world, especially other long-term travellers and return volunteers. There was always something fun going on in the house: board games, bbqs, move nights, language lessons, meditation, baking cakes, football matches, hikes, the list goes on... The work was well organised and varied, e.g. collecting cabbages, packaging veggies, planting seeds, picking kale/chard, working in the storage, collecting slugs, and feeding the lovely animals. Living with ~25 others is overwhelming at first and sometimes a bit much, but the positives so, so outweigh the negatives (mainly bathroom queues!). My only heads up for anyone considering a stay is that there are a few very sweet cats living in the house, so if you have allergies, come stocked-up with meds. I learned the hard way! Thank you Berk, Murad, and especially Berk, for keeping everything running smoothly and being such fun, approachable, and warm managers. I hope to be back soon!

Ever since we first got in touch about housesitting, Mascha and Henk have been incredibly attentive and kind. We spent ten days looking after their animals—the adorable Tuty and Tony—as well as their chickens and the plants in both the greenhouse and the garden. During our stay, they were having a water well drilled, so we made sure to keep an eye on things and help out with whatever was needed there too. The place is simply stunning. Between the nature, the views, and the peace and quiet, our time looking after the home and the pets was truly a wonderful experience.

Fue una experiencia increíble. Acracia es un lugar que transmite muchísimo y que realmente te llega al corazón, al igual que las personas que pasan por allí. Alvao es una persona muy única, que te hace sentir cómoda desde el primer momento. Me gustó mucho su forma de entender el proyecto, basada en compartir experiencias más que en contar horas de trabajo. Además, es un espacio que fomenta la creatividad y la libre expresión, lo que lo hace aún más especial. Creo que esta idea es la esencia que permite que el lugar siga creciendo. La casa, así como el entorno en el que se encuentra, es preciosa. También me encantó conocer a sus amigos y a la gente del pueblo, lo que hizo la experiencia aún más completa. Selma was great to have around, hard working, always smiling even on rainy days. Selma took very well care of all animals, was very proactive and always ready to help. She baked some great cakes, which made the winter days a bit more cosy. We really enjoyed her spirit and positivity, it was always nice talking to Selma. Our house will be always open for a next visit ;-)

Although I was only able to stay with Catherine for a week, it felt much longer to me. She welcomed me warmly and shared her little oasis of peace with me. She lives a very simple life in a small wooden cabin that blends beautifully into the natural surroundings. Many adorable little animals live on her property. I spent most of my time pruning pine trees, removing certain bushes, and helping with preparations for planting the vegetable garden. She has an incredible amount of knowledge and loves to share it. Thank you so much for that. We went on a lovely day trip that included a hike. We ate together for lunch and dinner, chatted a lot, and she told me many wonderful stories from her life. It was a truly wonderful experience for me. Thank you, Catherine
