Description
We are a small & welcoming family living near Mons, Belgium, and we are closely connected to a gentle and creative early childhood project based in Havré.
The project is rooted in respect for the child, emotional awareness, creativity and autonomy. It is inspired by alternative education approaches (outdoor, Montessori, etc.) rather than traditional schooling.
From September to December 2026, we are looking for an English-speaking, kind and conscious person with experience or training in early childhood support, who feels aligned with the values of the project.
You would be hosted in our home, take part two days a week at the project, and offer occasional support at home through presence, shared daily life and care. We have a 6 year old daughter. We love travelling, sharing and meeting people.
We will provide 2 meals a day (at lunchtime, we usually pack a picnic).
This is not a job, but a meaningful cultural and human exchange, based on trust, simplicity and connection.
If you feel drawn to mindful living and respectful accompaniment of young children, we would be happy to connect.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Travellers will experience everyday family life in Belgium, while being immersed in a values-based, community-oriented project.
They may learn about:
- alternative approaches to early childhood and education
- living within a community connected to nature and the living world
- slower rhythms, presence, and respectful relationships with children
- belgian culture through daily life, language exchange and shared experiences
This exchange is especially meaningful for people interested in education, community living, ecology and human connection.
We will make sure that anyone who joins us has at least two consecutive days off each week so they can make the most of their stay and explore Belgium and its neighboring countries. We would also be happy to help organize the exploring trips.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We are looking for a mindful, reliable person with experience or a strong interest in early childhood and children’s accompaniment within alternative education settings.
The children involved are aged from 3 to 8 years old, so we are looking for someone comfortable accompanying both younger children and older ones in their learning processes.
The help mainly includes:
- two days per week at the project, supporting children through presence, care, creativity and daily life activities
- accompanying children in a way that respects their autonomy, curiosity and individual rhythms
- seeing the adult role as a guide and supportive presence, rather than someone who directs or controls
- occasional support at home, through shared daily life moments and gentle support
Autonomy is a core value of the project. The adult is not there to “teach” in a traditional sense, but to hold a safe, respectful and inspiring space for children to grow and learn.

Accommodation
You will have your own private bedroom in our family home.
The house is a comfortable, separate villa located in a quiet residential area, close to woods, shops and public transport.
You will have:
- a private room with storage space
- access to shared common areas and the garden
- the possibility to set up a separate workspace, if needed
We will provide 2 meals a day (at lunchtime we usually pack a picnic).
We value calm, respect and shared living in a clean, warm and welcoming environment.
What else ...
We are an active and curious family and often move around different parts of Belgium for outings, cultural events and nature trips. The project also involves many outdoor activities, visits and gatherings, offering rich opportunities to discover the country differently.
The project is part of a community initiative, bringing together inspiring people from diverse backgrounds, all deeply connected to nature, creativity and the living world.
Public transport is easily accessible, and the region offers walks, forests and peaceful spaces, as well as vibrant cities within reach.
Free time is respected, and travellers are welcome to explore, rest, or join activities depending on their wishes.

Limited internet access

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
We can host digital nomads as long as their work schedule is compatible with family life and their involvement in the project. This experience is meant to be relational and hands-on, not just a place to stay while working remotely. We are looking for people who are present, engaged, and interested in the human and educational aspects of the exchange. In the house, we have a reliable internet connexion and we can accommodate a separate & comfortable office space.

Space for parking camper vans
We can host campers/motorhomes under specific conditions. The project is part of a collective housing initiative with light/alternative dwellings. Hosting Workawayers travelling in a campervan may be possible, but this option would need to be discussed directly with the land owner of the project and depends on availability and alignment with the project. In any case, the exchange is primarily based on human connection and active involvement, rather than simply providing a place to park.
