Joan, Urs, and Kym were great hosts and awesome company. Very welcoming, hospitable and warm, you are made to feel at home and part of the family. Work was very laid back and nothing too structured; just shown what to do and trusted to get on with it at your leisure, with plenty of options for jobs. There was a nice variety: fruit picking, basic carpentry, pruning, hedge trimming, cooking, setting up lighting, watering & more… Encouraged to knock off early, relax and enjoy your time on the beautiful property. Fun & stimulating conversations at mealtimes and plenty of laughter to go round. I was appreciative Joan & Urs accepted me with relatively short notice and for a short stay which really helped me with my longer term plans. Overall really fantastic hosts and just genuinely open & caring people. Hope to see you again!

Josh & Susie stayed at our animal sanctuary for approx 2 months. They were absolutely incredible and I would recommend them to anyone . They made a significant impact on our mission here and I hope to have them back again. We have had a long term policy here not to accept Workaway's with pets as we are an animal sanctuary and can't manage the additional risk of a new animal in our home . We made an exception and accepted this family as a trial because it seemed this was an exceptional case and are so glad we did . Josh and Susie travel with "Bella" Their amazing tiny 16 year old dog . (Live teddy bear) I was promised she was well behaved / was fine staying in the room relaxing and would not cause any issues . She is a silent little dog, never had a potty accident or made a mess and was a joy to have with us . Seeing her adorable little face each day was a treasure Susie & Josh both have an EXCELLENT work ethic. The work here on the farm is difficult and requires strength and endurance . Most of the Workaway's here could do most but not all of the work - and some of the tasks are a bit intimidating for some But these two could do it all. I have a need for people to get up at the crack of dawn which is difficult for some , they were wide awake and ready to go at anytime I needed them . I also have some farm animals that are intimidating to some - overenergetic crazy dog , 700-800 pound unpredictable pigs and large yaks that require patience and focus , dealing with unexpected faced paced emergencies on the farm , they both handled everything well. Susie & Josh also stepped up quickly to lead other volunteers and to handle situations without step By Step instructions . While I was away some issues came up and were completely Resolved . They are both EXCELLENT cooks, kept everything clean and well organized (not just their own space but reorganized many areas of the sanctuary without me asking them to do so ) I also learned a lot from them and they were eager to show me many things they have learned during their extensive travels I can't say enough about this pair and they were two of the best volunteers we have had here . They helped us at a much higher level above the day to day tasks and brought great ideas and inspiration on improving things here. They both have a way with animals beyond their general care . Connecting with them and taking the time to make the connection and give them lots of extra love and attention , etc . They both made our daily work FUN and were constantly trying to figure out MORE ways to help After their required tasks were done . Josh and Susie were not just a favorite of mine , but connected well With our community and everyone who came in contact with them. They both got along so well With others and our neighbors and local Friends are still Asking me for updates about how they are because they made such an impact on everyone here . If you have an opportunity to host them you don't want to pass up getting to know Susie , Josh. and Bella .

Angie and Frank are the sweetest couple! We had a really enjoyable, interesting and cosy time with them and their wonderful cats. They made us feel right at home and useful, which was really nice at a time of unusual weather conditions in Spain :) (lots and lots of rain). Frank's cooking was fantastic and we really enjoyed to have really interesting conversations about politics, culture and much more. We warmly recommend them. They really are the hosts you are looking for on workaway ;-) Big hug! Johann and Runa

We highly recommend Max to any host looking for someone reliable, skilled, and genuinely hardworking. He is precise, practical, and naturally puts in strong effort, even more than expected. During his stay he carried out tree and hedge pruning, carefully restored a wooden door requiring detailed sanding work, confidently handled power tools (including a planer he had never used before), helped level our lawn, and improved sections of our private gravel road. He learns fast, works independently, and approaches every task with focus, care, and responsibility. Beyond his excellent manual skills, he is friendly, sporty, and very sociable. He truly values cultural exchange and meaningful interaction with his hosts. We especially appreciate his energy and openness. We are grateful for his contribution and can confidently recommend him to future hosts.

Staying with this beautiful multicultural family was truly a special experience for me. From the very beginning, they welcomed me with genuine warmth and kindness, making me feel at home right away. Their blend of French, American, and Chinese backgrounds creates such a unique and harmonious atmosphere, open-minded, respectful, and deeply connected to nature. Their home is filled with calm energy and joy, especially with their three wonderful children. The two daughters are bright, curious, and a pleasure to spend time with, whether helping them with mathematics, reading, or playing educational games. And their 9-month-old baby boy is simply adorable. Spending time with him in the garden, helping him stand, encouraging his small physical movements, and watching him discover the world, was a heartwarming part of my days. I deeply appreciated learning about their permaculture lifestyle and fully vegan way of living. They grow most of their own food, even harvesting fresh grains from their backyard. Tasting the produce they’ve cultivated with such care was an experience in itself, you can truly feel the attention, intention, and love behind it. Helping in the garden and assisting in the kitchen allowed me to understand their philosophy not just in theory, but in practice. Both parents are sincere, thoughtful, and passionate about the life they’ve built. They create a peaceful and inspiring environment where simplicity, sustainability, and family connection come first. I’m grateful for the trust they gave me and for including me in their daily rhythm. This experience meant a lot to me. It was not just about contributing, it was about learning, sharing, and feeling part of something authentic and grounded. I leave with beautiful memories and deep appreciation for this family and their way of life.

Even though Matilda's stay with us was limited to a few days according to her travel plans, the impact she left here was exceptionally profound. She was very comfortable with the primary students in the pubic and the bond between her and them was amazing! In the evenings, she spent time with the village boys who played sports in the small playground, talking to them, taking pictures, and making connections with the community. At the online classes at night, it was great to see how lively she was with the high school students. As per her pssion of being the photographer for us, we saw her enthusiasm, and are eagerly waiting to see her creativity once we see the edited photos from her. The host family loved hosting her. The three-year-old Bivon in the family found a great playmate and a friend in Matilda. We wish she would come back to us for a longer stint when she can.

Lots to say, first of all, I stayed there for just under three months. Incredible house and the school staff are just so warm and welcoming. This was my 76th school around the world and I learn something new every time. A big thank you and best of luck to everyone. See you soon!

My time at this place was my very first Workaway experience, and honestly, it couldn’t have been a better introduction. Pantila and Mae Nai took such good care of me from the moment I arrived. They made me feel completely welcome and part of the community. On our days off, they would take us on little field trips to explore more local areas of Thailand, which made the whole experience feel so much deeper than just volunteering. They also shared parts of their culture with us — teaching us how to cook Thai meals and even introducing us to woodcarving. Those moments were really special. I stayed for two and a half weeks and made such meaningful connections with the other volunteers. The time spent with the kids was honestly the most wholesome part. They’re so small and full of personality, and it was such a privilege to teach them. It’s also a great place to slow down and recenter yourself. You only work a few hours a day, which leaves plenty of time to relax, reflect, and enjoy your surroundings. There’s so much to explore nearby — you can hop on a bike, grab a coffee, or wander through the weekly markets. Overall, this is a place that feels grounding, welcoming, and full of heart. I’m really grateful I got to experience it. Thank you so much Pantila and Mae Nai!

Matthias has been an absolute joy to have with us — genuinely helpful, considerate, and consistently hard working. He’s proactive and reliable, takes initiative without needing lots of direction, and brings a calm, positive energy to the daily rhythm of the place. He’s also very adaptable (clearly comfortable with simple/off-grid living), works well as part of a team, and is happy to turn his hand to whatever is needed — from outdoor/physical tasks to general household help. On top of that, he’s thoughtful and reflective, with a real interest in sustainability, nature, and learning, which makes him a lovely presence in a shared community setting. We’d happily recommend him to any host looking for someone trustworthy, capable, and kind. Come back and see us soon. Elliot

We had the privilege of hosting Mark at our place, and we are forever grateful that he chose us. Our house aunty describes him as the neatest, friendliest, and most humble white person she has ever met. My dad thinks he is one of the most unique volunteers he has ever encountered. My mum says he is someone worth keeping in your space forever. The girls kept asking why he couldn’t stay longer like some of the other volunteers. Our senior team believes his training session was one of the most fun sessions of 2026. And we all agree he is the kind of volunteer every host would love to have. Mark stayed with us for one week, but his impact goes far beyond those seven days. He is so kind-hearted and always willing to embrace the lifestyle of his host. He adapts easily to new environments and makes work easier for everyone around him. He is generous, thoughtful, and deeply caring. He surprised the girls at school with a visit and bought them new uniforms, spending his own resources just to see them happy. He also surprised our football team with new jerseys for their games, took time to play with them on the field, and even coached them. His impact on our lives and the community cannot be measured by just one week. Because he embraced the idea of supporting our players and helped find ways to make it possible, some of our football players from needy families now have full scholarships at St. Francis Gekendo Senior School. He personally ensured the admission of our first three players to the senior school, bought them boots, and even surprised the school with new partnership jerseys between our academy and the school’s football club. Parents are now happy and thanking me for work that was largely done by Mark 😂. When one of our teen mothers, Jacky, lost her mum to cancer, Mark took the time to stand with her family. He helped in the process of removing the body from the morgue and taking her mother home. This is something Jacky and her family deeply appreciate. He joined them in their pain and comforted them during such a difficult time. We only had one week with Mark, and it was sad to see him leave. He is humble and does everything in his power to fit in. He is friendly, fun to engage with, and a joy to have around. Mark, this is your home, and you are welcome anytime you feel like coming back home. Thank you, and we look forward to having you around next year.

We couldn't have hoped for better Workaways than Becki and Darren. From the moment they arrived, they integrated into sanctuary life with ease, proving themselves to be some of the most thoughtful and wonderful people we’ve had the pleasure of hosting. Their dedication to the tasks at hand was exemplary. Darren and Becki are incredibly detail oriented, careful, and thorough in everything they do. Their proactive nature was a standout quality, and they consistently went above and beyond our expectations, regularly starting their shifts earlier than required and finishing later just to ensure every job was completed to high standards. They handled all aspects of animal care with a gentle touch and expert precision. They didn’t just "do the job" they formed genuine, deep bonds with the animals and were remarkably perceptive in noticing subtle changes in behavior or when an animal needed extra attention. Beyond the work, they were lovely to be around. They are friendly, funny, and brought a great energy to the house. We shared some fantastic evenings together, and the competitive rounds of Rummikub and chess became a highlight of their stay. They also contributed to the household in many ways, including preparing some absolutely delicious meals. Becki gifted us a lovely painting of our little piglet, Fifi, which we treasure. It perfectly captured her spirit and is a beautiful reminder of their time here. We are already looking forward to their next visit! If you have the chance to host Darren and Becki, take it - they are a massive asset to any project and wonderful human beings.

We had a great two weeks at the beautiful farm. Kak Muni and Cik Lah were so welcoming and made us feel part of the family. They shared lots about farm life and culture with us, and also introduced us to some amazing food. The work we did included feeding the chickens, raking, lawn mowing, hedge trimming, cleaning the guesthouses, and also planting tapioca trees! Cik Lah was really kind showing us how and why they do everything, and ensured the work was enjoyable and not stressful for us. The work is also well structured split between early morning and evening so that you aren’t out in the heat in the middle of the day. They have a separate house for volunteers - two rooms, with two bunkbeds in each room , and a shared kitchen which is equipped with everything you might need. One of the highlights is being able to spend the days sitting in front of the river looking out for wildlife (otters, hornbill, eagles, and more) and then going for a dip in the water to cool down. This was our first experience with workaway and we were really grateful for it, it was so great to meet such a kind and welcoming family and experience the beauty of their farm.

We valued Kacper 's stay highly - especially as we also had a younger Workawayer staying at the time. Kacper took a quiet and organised lead with the work we were trying to achieve over summer. He did an amazing job with renovating our outdoor decking and furniture. During the recent heatwave, we spent downtime with puzzles, chatting about common interests in linguistics and other stories about our cultures.

I had an amazing time staying with Ernest, Brenda and their dog Hudson! I felt at home right away and immediately part of the family. They went to a great effort to teach me everything they could about their life and their local area. The work was fair, mainly weeding in their lovely garden. I learned an incredible amount about growing my own food and some tips to bring back to my garden at home. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend to others looking to see Oamaru!

I stayed at Kitty’s house for about 10 days. From the very first day I arrived in Ayutthaya, this family welcomed me with such warmth and kindness. Kwen’s smoothie shop was also incredibly delicious, and working together was so much fun. Even though it was a short time, I made such beautiful memories there. If I visit Thailand again, I will definitely book Kitty’s hotel. Thank you so much for everything.

Alex from Belgium is exactly the kind of volunteer hosts hope to meet. He is strong, hardworking, and consistently willing to help with anything that needs to be done. His attitude is positive, dependable, and easygoing, which makes him a pleasure to have around. Alex has an adventurous spirit and adapts quickly to new environments. He also does very well in social settings — outgoing, friendly, and naturally good with people. He integrates easily and contributes great energy to the overall atmosphere of the place. We truly appreciated having Alex with us and would gladly welcome him back anytime. Any host would be lucky to have him. Highly recommended. 🌟
