My workaway experience at Elliots place was GORGEOUS!! Elliot is a very caring, patient, trusting, sensitive and easy-going person which made us feel very comfortable during the whole stay. 🔅 The work, tasks, tools as well as the food were well organised. Elliot is open to find ideas together and not narrowed in his plan which contributed to a stronger group feeling and nice experience. We even created things in the free time, such as an incredible caraoke night whoch Elliot would organise wigs and costums for...🧡💛💜 movie night with snacks of course, and just had a lovely time. This is a peaceful beautiful place and Elliot was an amazing host I couldn't wish something else. One of my best workaway experiences so far. 10/10 , very very thankful. 🔅🌈

It's difficult to explain how much you should go visit Geir and Jorunn. This nice couple will take care of you as if you were one of your children and you will indeed feel very soon as at home. The farm is a beautiful bubble of heaven on hearth. Geir is a very joyful character and can talk with you during hours and knows a lot about Norwegian history and culture. Jorunn is the most attentive and thoughtful person that I've ever met and I loved spending time baking with her. The dogs are beautifuls and full of energy. These weeks were one of my best and I leave with a lot of beautiful memories. I'm sad but I know that I will come back. Don't loose a chance to spend beautiful moments and make wonderful memories!

I spent about two weeks at Sophies place looking after Cosmo in February and had a lovely time! The house is peaceful and the area relaxing and Cosmo is very well behaved. He comes up for cuddles when he wants them but always likes company. The house can be a bit chilly during winters with many minus degrees but the fireplace warms it up and the sofa quickly becomes a warm favourite spot! The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and if you don’t have a drivers license like me and are fine being stranded for a while it is paradise! It would be lovely to come back in the summer and experience it then too. I got the chance to spend some days with Sophie as well and she is very sweet and welcoming! We had interesting conversations about life and she is easy to get along with and makes sure you properly get to know the place and feel happy in her home. I am very thankful to have gotten the opportunity to stay at hers and take care of Cosmo! Until next time

It is usual for me to observe young volunteers spending alot of screentime. This was not so with Mattia. His phone was the companion of one or another book of poetry as he , quickly and quirkily, put to his store of words. The breadth and depth of his reading is astonishing. One just saw that he had spent his time in Dublin in the various galleries, drinking it all in. And so he came to flesh it out in the 'Land of Hearts Desire'. It was his hearts desire to tread the hallowed ground the earlier writers had trod; and so we set off the sunny afternoons NWbound . First stop Drumcliffe to pay homage to WBYeats 'under bare Benbulbens head' where he is laid to rest. On an ancient, fossilised, flaggy pavement , the surging and cascading of the sea on the rising tide was beautifully described by Mattia, whilst watching it approach the vulnerable Alt behind which The Poets House nestles. Dermot Healy wrote his best poetry capturing these images! Already versed in J.Joyce, he joined our reading group where he read the Italian lines with Joycean musicality! He also planted potatoes and onions and barrowed mulch for garden beds for a later planting. Being Italian , he did not fret about the lack of lists or a plan for the next day, something that fills me with dread for I like to work as the spirit moves me. And of course the weather is key! He was always courteous , humourous, and appreciative and cooked an authentic pasta for dinner. Bentornato Matteo in qualsiasi momento....anytime! Ciao on your travels in Eirinn.

I’m very grateful for my stay in Tuscany with Veruscka and her family. Communication was excellent from the beginning, and the tasks were always reasonable. I was happy to contribute because I felt genuinely appreciated. Mornings were free, giving me time for pleasant walks or bike rides into Grosseto’s walkable city center. It’s perfect for experiencing authentic Tuscan life without crowds of tourists, and it has everything you need. I also had time to visit Rome, Florence and Siena during my stay. Most afternoons I spent playing games with Samu, a smart and imaginative boy. I also helped organize the kitchen before/after meals (with support from Veruscka or Alessandro) and occasionally took out the trash. Their sweet, extremely well-behaved dog was always eager for walks. This family is experienced at hosting and regularly checked that I was comfortable, answering any questions I had. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying with them.

Our stay on the farm was truly unforgettable. From the very first day we were welcomed with open arms by Geir and Jorunn. They are incredibly kind and sympathetic people and we immediately got along very well. Life on the farm was relaxed and beautiful. We completely fell in love with the animals especially the two sweet dogs, Pepsi and Lola, and the lovely goats. During our stay we experienced many great things together, including trips to Bergen and Odda and visiting Christmas markets with Geir and Jorunn. There were always fun and lively conversations and we learned a lot, thanks to Geir, our “super nerd,” who always had interesting things to share. We also enjoyed a lot of incredibly delicious food during our stay. Jorunn cooked many great meals for us and we even had the chance to try special local dishes like whale and deer. She also was a total baking queen and made the best pancakes (Lapper). We even had the chance to cook some specialities from our home country. Over time we grew very close and it felt more like spending time with family than just being guests. Geir’s humor and Jorunn’s caring nature made our stay even more special. We are very grateful for this experience and truly hope that this friendship will last for a long time. See you again :) Lara and Alissa

Our little Antonella is a very well-groomed and tidy girl. She helped us a lot with the kids and Russel. We will definitely miss her and can't wait to see her again somewhere in the world since she is a citizen of the world. She speaks Italian, and that has helped us with communication. If you want to win her over, make sure she has lots and lots of eggs! It's her favorite food!

This was a wonderful first Workaway experience! I volunteered in Ançã for twelve days. Everyone was very polite and helpful. Communication with Niels was excellent and working with Gavi was absolutely great. I also had the opportunity to meet Lily and the kids. The tasks weren’t difficult, working hours were flexible and there was plenty of time for exploring nearby places. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity. Muito obrigada!

What a beautiful workaway. I had a good time at andrea's place. She has a good heart and she is such a welcoming person. I like how Andrea gives you the time and space to be able to discover the city and the surroundings. I think all workaways should take exemple on her. The house is a piece of art and the dogs & cats are the best. I will definetly be back one day to see andrea and her projects. Thank you for this awesoem time I had!

We had an amazing time at Reggae Island with Josh and all his family. Sadly Josh was away for some of the time we were there but we were very well looked after by Patience, Tony and Bob. We enjoyed the work around the farm, and loved getting to know the local culture and ways of life there on the lake. There was lots of time to relax and enjoy the lake, and Tony was a great guide for us around the local villages and surrounding areas. The lake itself is a piece of paradise and we could sit on the patio and watch the otters and different birds in their natural habitat which is a beautiful thing. Patience is a fantastic cook and kept us well fed, as well as entertained with her stories and her wisdom. Although we couldn't get involved in the community work as much as we would have liked, it is important work that Josh is doing and it was a privilege to play a small part in it. Thank you very much to everyone at Reggae Island for such a wonderful experience! Highly recommended!

I arrived in the middle of February for the pruning season and stayed on my own in the 5 star cottage close to the family house for 2 weeks. We were lucky with the weather most of the time. I had the chance to go for nice walks that start right from the house. Only 2-3 hours / day in the olive fields let me plenty of free time to discover the area. There is a shop within 5 minutes walk, I got to know one of the neighbours on the way. I used the cottage's nice kitchen to prepare my meals, and the woodburning stove provided me the cosy feeling all the time. I'd like to highlight the PEACE I felt all these days. Crystal and Mariano were very welcoming and their communication is very straightforward. Theo helped me to fix my working boots with a genius idea :) You are the healthiest hardworking family I've met during the years. Thank you very much for this beautiful winter/spring holiday !!! I will always remember this time !!! Wish you the best for your projects!

What an amazing guy. Michael fit in with our family immediately and the vibe continued through the duration of his stay. Our boys loved him and he was fantastic with them. Not only is Michael kind and respectful, but he is an incredibly intellectual human. My husband and I loved our conversations around the dinner table and talking about worldly topics. He has a natural demeanour that sets you at ease and his clever whit and smile make him genuinely easy to be around. We are so lucky to have hosted him and hope that we will see him again in the future. If you are lucky enough to have him reach out to be his host, you’d be crazy not to have him. He adapts well to different situations and easily catches on to whatever task is given to him. He is eager to help and learn and always willing to contribute to whatever needs to be done. Five star WorkAwayer right there!!

I spent 3 weeks with Hilary in December (reviewing completely slipped my mind) but I truly enjoyed my time here. Feeding and mucking out horses was a completely new experience for me, but Hilary was available to answer questions for me even when she wasn't. She generously facilitated day trips for my fellow workawayer and I to places such as the Giants Causeway, Belfast, Derry, and closer residing towns as well. I learnt more than I expected to about Northern Ireland, and met many of her friends and family, making it feel like a true cultural exchange - I had a great time, thank you so much!

ash and I had an absolutely wonderful week with Tara, Jim (& their gorgeous dogs)! from the moment we arrived, we felt super comfortable and welcome in their home. it is a really beautiful, eco space they have created amongst the jungle in Corozal. the work felt super fair and enjoyable helping on various gardening / maintenance projects around their property. we also got to see how their recycling system worked, helping it be sorted / collected by locals which was really interesting. it was lovely eating a delicious homemade lunch together over great conversations about the world! a highlight outside of work hours were sitting in the porch of our treehouse listening to the sounds of nature & observing the chickens! we have left feeling rejuvenated and inspired. thank you so much Tara and Jim! wishing you all the best.

Jean Paul helped me a lot, especially in the garden. He sawed up a fallen tree, brought in firewood, disposed of cut shrubs and branches... We spent a pleasant week together. Thank you, Jean Paul.

I spent 7 weeks at Harriet and David's beautiful home and farmland, and my time there became a peaceful reset in my travels that I really valued. I got to see two snowfalls, care for all the lovely and spirited animals and settle into a truly enjoyable day-to-day lifestyle. My one day off each week typically took me up to explore Edinburgh, but I was also able to see Fife, North Berwick, and several quaint surrounding towns. I met several of their friends and family, and even attended the start of a hunt which was a whole new world. In the wintertime, the tasks are slightly heftier with horse feeding being a big priority, normally starting at 8:30am, but it was not an issue. Other tasks included ironing, chicken feeding (and herding), and the morning horse mess-picking which took about 45mins-1hr each day. The tasks never dominated the day; there was an abundance of free time to do with as I pleased. Harriet always ensured I was well fed and as comfortable as if I were at home, keeping the freezer stocked with my favourite icecream the entire time (quite something to keep up with!) She even purchased a new pair of gumboots for me to use when the ones i was using were functional but leaking, just because it was a bit uncomfortable. I would recommend this workaway to anyone, but particularly to people wanting to slow down and take a beat in the open Scottish air and rolling hills, and focus on the animals and people in front of them. Overall, I am really grateful for my time here and their generosity and warmth, and wish them the very best! Thanks again :)

Sandrine is an excellent and willing helper with a great attitude to getting things done. She is creative and intelligent and cares deeply about doing things well. She is a good communicator and has clear boundaries. She helped me tremendously and I am very grateful to her. Work she did was declutterring and rearranging furniture and household items so they looked beautiful and were easy to use. She is very good at cleaning and made the place sparkle. She gardened and planted and watered and improvised a fence. She did hard dirty work helping me take rubbish to the tip, she helped create a flier for advertising. She took photos of things and listed them to sell at my request, handling communication and money in a trustworthy manner. She helped me put together a pen for chooks, and she also introduced me to interesting people who I have been delighted to meet. I rate her very highly and she is welcome here again. Her attitude is cheerful and practical and she is also a sensitive soul with a spiritual side. She is wise and smart and has a wry sense of humour. Also a quick learner. She wanted to learn about permaculture, and everything I told or showed her, she remembered and put into practice. I put 4 stars for communication because at times we had to clarify things. English is not her first language, but we could always make ourselves understood. Willingness to communicate well and honesty is 5 stars.

Marco stayed with us for a period of time and was an absolute pleasure to host. During his stay he helped a lot with several 3D printing projects, collaborating on new ideas and concepts and contributing valuable technical knowledge. He is very versatile, curious, and quick to learn, which made him extremely helpful across many different tasks. On top of that, his experience as a sports massage therapist came in very handy for some personal issues I had, and he was also able to help some of my employees. It was a huge bonus to have that kind of skill around. Beyond the technical side, Marco is simply a great person to have around. He is intelligent, capable, hardworking, and always willing to help. He brought a very positive energy to the house and was great company as well — a good cook, a great singer, and someone who genuinely contributes to a nice atmosphere. One detail that perfectly sums him up: he always showed up with coffee ☕ I can fully recommend Marco to any host. He is reliable, proactive, and a genuinely great guy to have around. We had a great time hosting him and would happily welcome him back anytime.
