    Description

Hey All, welcome to our page! We are a fun loving family of four, located out in West Cork on the Mizen Peninsula. As the story goes, I was in your shoes the summer of 2018, participating in WorkAway on a farm in the area when they introduced me to their neighbour Fin- crazy right?!? We dated, married and are now raising two feral boys that dream of being farmers!

We decided to become hosts for Workawayers from around the world as a way to give back to the community that brought us together. To date we’ve hosted about 25 kids and had around 10 or them become repeat guests as they have become more like family than volunteers. We feel very blessed with the friendships we’ve cultivated through this program.

What we are looking for is someone to help with our private garden (in 2026 we cultivated a larger portion of our yard for vegetables) and household projects such as light painting and repairs, laundry, grocery shopping, errands, and occasional help with the boys. We are now homeschooling, so the kids are home with us everyday, that said, if you are not comfortable with kids, our house is probably not for you.

We love the life we have created and we love hosting young adults from all over the world. It has been a huge blessing in our lives ♥️. Most kids find our lifestyle refreshingly unconventional. If you seek structure- that is not us, everyday is different and everyday is an adventure. If you need specific times for work- that is not us, blending and being flexible is probably the most important trait you can bring to our table. If you are a planner- we might drive you crazy, as things NEVER go according to plan. Trust me, I was a planner, it doesn’t always work here! But if you are looking for fun, a fly by the seat of your pants experience, random conversation, and a slightly chaotic household with two wild boys, I can promise you’ll be entertained!

Ireland is a beautiful country: It is green, it is charming, the people are warm and the weather- Wild. But in our area, it is old style. People work hard for what they have and spend long hours doing it, a cuppa tea could take 15 minutes or 5 hours depending on the topic of conversation and who else calls in, and days never go according to plan. I love the life we live. It is about family, the farm, and making our world go ‘round. We don’t boast a posh lifestyle, but we can boast adventure and stories and share a bad joke over a good meal. If you think you can delve into that kind of environment, our farm may be your perfect fit!

I think Workawayers will learn a lot about what they want out of life with us. My husband is Irish, I am American. We have learned so much from each other and want to share the positivity we feel everyday with young adults looking to enhance their life. We work hard. We work toward a better life on a daily basis and feel the reward is worth the sweat we put in. We love to have fun, go on family outings, sing along to the radio, dance in the kitchen and go for a pint when the time is right.

Again, projects range. If you want to learn about the dairy, my husband is thee greatest teacher I’ve ever met. His patience and diligence are admirable, and his animal husbandry is bar none. I am constantly working on the house when I’m not needed on the farm and when I’m not homeschooling the kids. The garden needs constant attention and odd tasks tend to crop up everywhere - weeding, folding laundry, washing dishes, taking out the compost, feeding pets- it’s never ending!

If there is one thing I can tell you about both my husband and I, is that we would never ask you to do something we would not do ourselves, it really creates aa environment based on respect that we can all feel good about.

We don’t anticipate needing more than a few hours a day (4-5). It’s a very flexible schedule, I might need to to mind the kids for a couple hours or n the morning, and you have a break and eat a meal with us, maybe take a nap or go on a hike, then spend a couple hours in the garden in the afternoon. Or it’s flipped around and mornings are for gardening and afternoons are beach trips and bike rides!

You’d have your own room, double bed and dresser. Hate to break it to you, but old farmhouses don’t have a lot of bathrooms, no room is en suite so all bathrooms are shared spaces. The house was built in 1906, the add on in the 80’s. It’s built for function, not comfort, though I am working on it!!

We do have great WiFi, as well as a smart TV with Prime and Netflix so we tend to watch kid shows from time to time!

    What else ...

The Mizen is stunning. Crookhaven is a darling yacht harbor town with great eats and the Mizen Head is a beautiful tourist attraction with an afternoon worth of walking and exploring. We are not far from Bantry and Skibbereen, and only a 3hr bus ride to Cork. There are a lot of fun little hiking areas and beaches in our own back yard too.

My one mandatory rule for you is, take two days in a row to yourself, go explore, and see this wonderful area. I can take you to the bus, pick where you want to go, and come back to tell us of your adventure. We want you to see our little piece of the world!
