Thank you to Philippe for coming for a few weeks. He was a very hardworking, trustworthy, respectful man who helped me complete many tasks with with expertise and skill. He masterminded the preparation and bottling of my olive crop and organised and cleaned the sheds and mowing machine, gardening and many other tasks that were needed. Because his English and my French were limited we couldn't have many in-depth conversations but with a bit of Spanish between us we managed to communicate. I have no hesitation in recommending Philippe to future workaway hosts.

We were so lucky to have Franzi come and stay with us to help cover our kids school holidays while we worked. She has an incredible work ethic (I would safely assume she would apply this to whatever type of Workaway position she took on) , was very tidy, trust worthy, organised, and was great at communicating. She was also such a joy to have around and we loved getting to know her kind personality. She was also great at independently exploring our town. We were sad to see her go, and would welcome her back any time!

We stayed with Sunniva for about 6 weeks from December to January and we had a lovely time. She lives in a beautiful, old country house surrounded by fields and forests, which is perfect for people who like to explore nature and enjoy the peace and quiet of the swedish countryside. The work we did was quiet varied, from taking care of the horses, helping in the garden, renovating the house or cuddling the cats, there's always something to do. Overall, this place is perfect for people who want some calm and quiet and don't mind living somewhere a bit more secluded and disconnected from the outside world. Thanks for everything and we hope all is well at Gransjö :))

It was a pleasure to have Han and Seager stay with us, and we wish they could have stayed longer. We really appreciate their open and positive approach to learning the many tasks & skills that are part of life on our small intensive farm. It was very satisfying to tackle projects with them and to have the support of their strong energy. We also enjoyed outings and good conversations together. Wishing you all the best, thank you Han and Seager!

I had a short but wonderful stay in early January. Carlos and Becky are amazing hosts, and there was another nice Workawayer at the time, as well as more arriving in the week that I left. It is such a peaceful slice of paradise and I felt very happy there. Carlos was immediately super friendly, and we met Becky a couple of days later, and she was really thoughtful in ensuring that we felt welcome and cared for during our stay. Their place is quaint and volunteers have a separate cosy house, the casasita. They have a great library of books in a few languages. I very quickly became used to the compost toilet (and only got locked in once!) and being mindful of off-grid winter life including water and energy usage, as the electricity relied on solar so went out a couple of times. The work was fun and varied; I really enjoyed learning heaps from Becky who is an expert at pruning fruit trees, and Carlos taught me some new DIY/renovation skills. Carlos identified a few tasks when he was first touring us around, so whenever he was unavailable to ask for instructions I knew there was something else to do next anyway. We ended up doing tasks across most parts of the garden and some indoors too. We shared lovely vege meals together, including delicious porridge flavours each morning, fresh-picked salads, and everyone participated in cooking at some point. The surrounding landscapes are interesting for sure! I was treated to a day out exploring in Zaragoza while Carlos and Becky ran chores there, and also walked to see local sites in our free afternoons. Thank you for everything, especially for both being patient with questions all about Spanish! Being a translator and university lecturer, Becky is a perfect person to ask. Carlos was also eager to share a lot about Spanish culture. All the best, I hope you have everything you need when the baby arrives - you’ll be incredible parents and I hope the rest of the year goes smoothly for you. ❤️

We hosted Liam and Ellen for 2 weeks, and quite honestly we would have been happy to keep them for 2 months ! A delightful young, happy and helpful couple . Both Ellen and Liam were easygoing, friendly and up for any task asked of them . They shared stories from their lives and homeland and were happy to invest in our lives on the farm . They both cooked several meals which were lovely and much appreciated . The dogs loved them both, always a positive sign .! Ellen told me on our first meeting that she had yet to see a snake, so bingo the first walk around the house after arriving home, we saw one on the lawn...not sure if it was a treat or not, but they managed to see several in their time with us . :) I felt they were both trustworthy enough to allow use of my little car to go exploring which they certainly enjoyed . I would happily recommend them both to anybody .

I really enjoyed my stay here. The community was very welcoming and this piece of land is lovely and full of life. I loved helping out with the plants. The kitchen space is also wonderful and always replenished with snacks. It's a great experience for anyone wanting to explore alternative ways of gaining autonomy. Looking forward to visiting again whe I can!

Chloe is an enthusiastic and all round great character, Would turn her hand to anything that was asked of her with minimal supervision. Rowan adored her time with Chloe :)

Molly stayed with us for three weeks, she became someone we could truly rely on. She is incredibly sweet and caring, with a calm confidence that makes everything feel easier. She’s the kind of volunteer who naturally takes initiative, thoughtful, observant, and always a step ahead. When she had an idea, she didn’t just share it, she made it happen, and that made a real difference to daily life here. 🌱 She helped with a wide range of hands on work, especially in the garden, plastering, building steps for our vegetable patch, and getting stuck into whatever needed doing. She worked with care and focus, and you could tell she genuinely wanted things to be done well. Around the house, she had the same mindset, quietly keeping things clean and organised, making everyne coffee, taking care of the little details that so often go unnoticed but matter a lot. 🧤🌾 Some of the best memories with Molly were in the evenings. She’s a wonderful musician, and many nights were spent jamming together, sitting by the fire, playing cards, laughing, and letting the day gently fade out. Those moments brought such warmth and connection, the kind that turns a place into a home. 🔥🎶 Molly is the kind of volunteer every host hopes for, considerate, capable, creative, and full of heart. We are deeply grateful for the time we shared and the care she brought into our space. Any place lucky enough to host her will feel richer for it. Lots of love, Lena and Bishwo ❤️

What an absolute joy to have you both in our home and hearts. Fantastic workers who rose to the challenge of any task that was asked of them , nothing too big or small. Was especially special watching Rowan make her own connection with you both - she still asks for you daily. Hopefully you return to NZ as our door will always be open for you.

I stayed at Cheryl's place in Killcare for 12 days and had a great time. Cheryl is a lovely person, very friendly and easy-going. She showed me around the beautiful surroundings, taking me to different surf spots, and lending me one of her surfboards, so that I could go surfing. She was also very kind to let me use her tools to get my car ready for road trip. The work was very manageable. I helped out with scraping paint off, sanding, and re-painting some skirting boards. The room I stayed in was very nice, with big windows overlooking the trees and a big, comfortable bed. Thank you, Cheryl, I hope to see you again soon!

Walter and Tia were some of the most wonderful people I have ever met! During my month stay with them I learned so much along with experiencing the beautiful Island of Oahu! If you are looking for a life changing experience this is the place to go! They were always willing to help me explore even taking me to certain beaches and hikes! The accommodation and food were more than enough! I will never forget this experience. Thank you Walter and Tia!

I had a great time at Michelle's house. She is a very nice and easy going person and we had good talks together. She had made a list of task that could be done and I could pick the one's I liked to do and are within my skills. She has a lovely house near the beach and offered me to use her bike! There was time enough to go for a hike or biketour. And above all: she is a great cook!! We had a great time together and I could not have wished me a better host. Thanks for everything Michelle! I

What a chance we had to cross Tory's path ! We spent 10 days on her beautiful land and we couldn't dream better for our first experience in NZ. Sharing meals, great conversations, meeting Tory's family, and having this place to stay during our road trip was truly nourishing for us. Tory truly is an inspiring, generous, open-minded woman. We really enjoyed working on the land (getting rid of this bloody blackberry !!), feeding and taking care of the animals, and giving some love to this land. It was also really inspiring and exciting to start a mural ! Hopefully I (Annegely) or another will have the opportunity to had some more :) We feel very grateful for the time we spent there. Thank you so much Tory !! And maybe see you another time ;)

As my first Workaway experience, it was what I needed it. The communication with Thuan was very easy and quick by Whatshap before I came, and she took care of me since the first moment I got there. The place is a little paradise in the middle of rural Vietnam. The guesthouse and the coffee shop are very beautiful, surrounded by nature and all the people that go there are very nice and kind. You will be in a tiny room inside the library, which is really beautiful, but during the day (mostly on weekends) there were a lot of people so it was a bit crowded. Mostly at nights was calm but sometimes there was a very loud karaoke on the street. If you are a person that is ok with noise, you will be great. The team of the guesthouse are very lovely and they will help you with anything you ask them. They made delicious vietnamese meals I enjoyed so much. The staff of the coffee shop will be your friends if you take the chance to speak with them. They are very nice guys and I already miss them. About the tasks, the work is very well organised and divided. You will work on mornings 7-12 am and in the evening you can enjoy your free time taking a coffee, reading on library, talking with people or visiting the surroundings by bike. There is a lot of things to do actually. For me, the work has been monotonous, and every day was mostly the same: sweeping leaves. I would had liked to do some tasks more challenging or learning something new (about gardening, for example). But if you like simple work and not thinking so much, it will be perfect. I am very grateful to Thuan to have hosted me in her place. A place that she has created with her own hands, with so much love, passion and strength. A place where dogs, cats and animals can be loved and accepted, and not only animals but also humans that need a chance to work in a different way with their talents. Very very special place where you can call it home easily. I will remember my time there with so much love :)

Vinny and Annegely came to stay for a couple of weeks at my place and also did some house/pet sitting. Before I left them to house sit we spent some days together and I showed them the ropes. I knew very quickly that I could trust them both. Vinny and Annegely were incredibly respectful and friendly. It was so easy to have them around and I could trust them to get any job done that we spoke about. We had some really in depth chats about life, society and inequality in the world. Thanks so much for your attention to detail you two and it was a pleasure to host you and allow you some space and time to be here yourselves to enjoy our little slice of paradise. Thank you for leaving the place so tidy when you left for the next workawayers to arrive. All the best with your travels and please come back if you head this way again. Peace, love and light, Tory, Loki, Nikko, Juni and Basil. ❤️🙏

I had such an awesome week! I learned so much about farming in NZ and got to spend lots of time out on the farm working with the sheep and driving the quad, which I just love. Beautiful views in all directions, fresh eggs from the chickens, extra friendly working dogs, great food and a super comfy bed! These guys are such an easy going bunch and made me feel very welcome and part of the family. The best way to escape the crowds and really understand kiwi life.

Karo was a genuine joy to have stay with us who always gave 150% to absolutely everything we were doing. Tasks that could have been overwhelming became genuinely enjoyable with Karo's infectious enthusiasm keeping our spirits up. She is hard working, funny, positive, fit, open, thoughtful and just an all round awesome human. She cared for our animals like they were her own and helped us hugely with all of the energy she put into our projects. I am so grateful to have had the pleasure of having Karo stay with us. We would have her back in a heartbeat and consider her a true friend.
