Thank you Lisa and Rick for amazing 6 weeks at the "crazy quinta". This was my first workaway and it will be hard to top this experience. From the day I arrived I was treated as part of the family and was involved in all the projects going on at the farm. During my time there I helped clearing a lot of the land in prepraration of the fire-season, made fire wood and fed the chickens among other things. The work was very rewarding and I enjoyed evey minute. The communication is very direct (huge plus in my opinion) and always fair, as are the working hours. Top tipp: bring clothes you can ruin. Lisa and Rich are truly amazing hosts. We shared many evenings with good conversation and brilliant british humor. They took me to many outings so I could experience the portugese culture, meet the locals and some friends of their community. I can wholeheartedly recommend. Wish you all the best and I hope to come again one day.

We are very happy that Ben and Nina came to stay with us.. they wanted to paint a mural and ended up painting a beatiful mural in the community school we are part of... They were very committed to it and have the patience to work with the kids and the few materials we had.. They worked with us in other tasks as well, always willing to help.

Zoe and Mikaia were wonderful helpers - like little bundles of energy! They stayed with us for two months and they did a really fantastic job caring for the cats and helping wherever help was needed. They have a very cheerful, positive attitude and are a pleasure to have around. Despite the unusually wet winter here in southern Spain they never once complained about having to feed the cats in the pouring rain and getting soaked!! They showed love and compassion with animals and humans alike and were very grateful for even the smallest gesture. Zoe and Mikaia stayed together in the wooden casita, preparing their own meals their and caring for the casita cats (Da Vinci, Billy, Bertha and Tommy) Hardworking, undemanding and totally trustworthy I would thoroughly recommend these two energetic girls to other Workaway hosts . It was an absolute pleasure to host them - we miss them and wish them all the very best. We would certainly welcome them back any time in the future. Good luck girls in your current Workaway place and many, many thanks for all you did for us and the cats! We miss you!!

I couldn’t have wished for a better place for my first Workaway stay! From the very first moment I stepped into the kitchen, I felt truly welcome — and that feeling stayed with me until the day I left. Philippe and Jean treated me and the other Workawayers with incredible warmth, openness, and generosity. Under their care, you will never go to bed hungry or thirsty. The day might start with horse manure, but it always ends with delicious food, fine wine loud laughter and good cheese. 😉 I learned a lot during my stay — not only about horses and life in the French countryside, but also about the joy of sharing meals and stories with people from around the world. And I learned that the most important ingredient in every dish is love. 😛 There are usually other Workawayers around, and the people I met there made my stay truly special (❤️🇳🇱🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇭🇺🇮🇹🇳🇴🇨🇭🇧🇷!). Surrounded by wonderful people and great conversations, it felt like spending time at summer camp with good friends. Thank you for the wonderful time — I can wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone!

Me and my sister stayed for four weeks here and had a great time. The cats, dogs, cow, pig, sheep, and horses are a delight for any animal lover and so wonderful to be around. The people were also very kind, and especially Isa is such a wonderful and fun person. She has a beautiful way with all the animals, and we were able to learn a lot from her. She was also always open to adjusting the work schedule if we wanted to take a day off to explore the area. The facilities are very nice and modern, and there is even a gym that volunteers can use. With that being said, there are a few things you may want to be aware of when working here. Firstly, we were four volunteers sharing a relatively small bedroom with limited storage space, so it could get a bit messy at times. The bathrooms are located at the stable and are also used by others, so privacy is basically non existant. The small kitchen was shared between the volunteers and one of the grooms. The equipment is very basic, so good communication about who uses it and when is important. The grooms only speak Spanish, so it helps a lot if you know at least a little Spanish. There are additional apartments and a larger kitchen for guests, which were mostly unoccupied during our stay except for one weekend. Being able to use those facilities might have made things a bit easier. Food and spices are not provided, and Costa Rica is generally an expensive country, so be prepared to spend quite a lot on groceries. Work usually runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can be physically demanding but it's fun. We spent quite a lot of time sitting around and waiting for the next task because there wasn't a lot to do at times. We were able to ride about once a week, which unfortunately was a bit less than I had hoped for. However, the lessons we did get to participate in were great, and Isa is a very good teacher. The farm is located in a very quiet and natural area, which is beautiful and peaceful. However, it can also make getting around a bit more difficult. The closest beach is about 7 km away and Tamarindo about 13 km. Unfortunately, the bicycles are currently not in good enough condition to use. Uber is an option, although it can be unreliable and pretty expensive. We ended up renting a car for a week, which cost us approximately 750 USD. If you are aware of these points and love being around animals, you can definitely have a great time here. Once we got used to how things work on the farm, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Abi was very appreciative of all the daily details; the room, the food, the work, the dog, our conversations, etc. And that makes it a very nice experience for the host. She is respectful, attentive, confortable with the hard outdoor work as well as the household cleaning and the indoor construction tasks. I wish she could have stayed more than 3 weeks! You would be lucky to have her as a volunteer. Thank you Abi!

I really enjoyed working with Katarina! Although she was only here for a few days, she gave me a hand with all sorts of tasks – from housework and cooking to outdoor jobs like tending to the plants, chopping wood, and harvesting, etc. We got on really well, and there were plenty of moments to relax and go out on the spur of the moment. Thanks again for stopping by; I wish you all the best!

Zoe is a brilliant and highly dedicated horsewoman. During her time with us, she was a great support, and we would have gladly kept her longer. Her diligent, thoughtful, and reliable nature was a great asset to us, our guests, and our horses. She works very well both independently and as part of a team. During her time with us, we received a lot of positive feedback from our riding guests; everyone felt they were in good hands with her.

I had a wonderful time with Kim, Peter, Cristina, and the other Workawayers. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot. Kim and her family gave me a warm welcome, it felt like home for the three weeks i stayed there. The many animals on the farm live a wonderful life, its such a lovely place. Thank so much for this great experience!
