Description
Hello, Workawayers!
We’re excited to introduce you to our beautiful farm located in San Jose de Pinilla, just a short distance from the vibrant beach town of Tamarindo. Our place is a perfect blend of equestrian passion and natural beauty, and we think you’ll love it here for several reasons.
Why You’ll Love it here:
Our farm is spacious and lush, home to around 30 horses. It’s a peaceful retreat where you can connect with nature and experience the joys of farm life.
Being close to Tamarindo, you’ll have access to stunning beaches, a lively atmosphere, and plenty of activities. Whether you enjoy surfing, exploring local markets, or trying out the delicious cuisine, Tamarindo has something for everyone.
We focus on show jumping, dressage and eventing so we train horses and are open for lessons. We’re proud to have two very experienced trainers: one from Canada and one from Chile. Their expertise and passion for equestrian sports make for an exciting and educational experience.
Meet the Team:
Isa manages the day-to-day operations I oversee the farm, coordinate lessons, and ensure everything runs smoothly. I’m passionate about equine care and community engagement and am thrilled to share our beautiful setting with you. Isabella, offers unique techniques and enthusiasm for jumping lessons, providing a valuable learning opportunity.
We have several very well qualified coaches that bring decades of experience that focus on Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, and Horsemanship.
Our local staff play a key role in maintaining the farm and assisting with daily operations. This is also a great chance for you to practice and improve your Spanish in a real-world setting.
We believe we offer a unique combination of equestrian passion, cultural immersion, and natural beauty. We’re excited to welcome you to our farm and share all the wonderful experiences that await.
If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to reach out. We can’t wait to have you join our team!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
One of the best parts of staying with us is the rich cultural exchange you’ll experience. Our farm is located in a vibrant, multicultural area, giving you the chance to meet people from many different nationalities and backgrounds.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Connect with locals: Our staff and community members come from diverse backgrounds, offering a unique chance to learn about Costa Rican culture and traditions. Engaging with locals will give you a deeper insight into daily life here and allow you to practice your Spanish in a friendly, immersive environment.
Work with international trainers: Our equestrian team includes trainers from both Costa Rica and Chile. Working alongside them will not only enhance your riding skills, but also expose you to different training techniques and perspectives from around the world.
Meet fellow travelers: As a hub for international visitors, you’ll meet other Workawayers and tourists from across the globe. It’s a fantastic opportunity to share experiences, exchange stories, and build friendships that last long after your stay.
Join our community and enjoy an enriching experience that goes beyond farm life—discover new cultures, learn from others, and create memories you’ll carry with you wherever you go.
Help
We’re looking for enthusiastic Workawayers to join us on the farm! Since our daily routine revolves around the horses, some experience with them is essential.
Your responsibilities may include:
Cleaning stalls and paddocks: Keeping the horses’ living spaces clean, safe, and comfortable.
Turning horses in and out: Assisting with bringing horses to and from the paddocks.
Grooming: Helping care for the horses to keep them healthy and well-maintained.
General cleaning: Supporting with light chores around the farm.
In addition to the horses, you’ll also get to spend time with our other animals. We have a friendly pig named Peaches, a gentle cow named Esteban, two sheep (Pascual and Vanilla), plus several dogs and cats who love attention. Helping care for them is part of the fun, and there’s never a dull moment on the farm!
If you have riding experience, you’ll also have the chance to ride our horses and join us on scenic trail rides—a wonderful way to enjoy the beautiful surroundings while improving your equestrian skills.

Accommodation
We offer a shared room that comfortably accommodates up to four volunteers. It’s a cozy and welcoming space where you can relax and unwind after your day on the farm. The room is equipped with air conditioning.
You’ll also have access to a shared kitchen, which you’ll share with our main groomer. The kitchen is well-equipped, making it easy to prepare your own meals. We provide basic staples, but Workawayers are responsible for cooking their own food. It’s a wonderful space to try out your favorite recipes, share meals with fellow volunteers, and enjoy some downtime together.
**Since this is a shared living environment, we ask that everyone be mindful of each other’s schedules and respect quiet hours.**
Our staff start their mornings early to care for the horses, so late-night noise or coming in very late from partying isn’t a good fit here. We value creating a friendly, community-oriented atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and can enjoy their time on the farm.
What else ...
In Your Free Time:
When you have downtime, there are plenty of amazing places to explore nearby! The famous Tamarindo Beach is just a short trip away. There, you’ll find stunning beaches, lively nightlife, great shopping, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Tamarindo is also known for its vibrant surf scene, with opportunities for lessons, tours, and even live music in the evenings.
We’re also close to other incredible surf and beach spots like Playa Avellanas and Playa Grande, which are perfect for a day of sun, surf, and relaxation.
Our farm is nestled in the jungle, a little off the beaten path, so while it’s peaceful and surrounded by nature, it does mean you can’t just walk to a grocery store or restaurant. Most volunteers use taxis or Uber to get around, and some choose to rent a car if they want the freedom to explore more of the region. Renting isn’t necessary, but it can be a great option if you’re planning lots of adventures.
Whether you want to spend your free time surfing, exploring, or simply relaxing on the beach, there’s something here for everyone.
