Here I am finally sharing my wonderful experience at Franz's. It was so rich and exciting that I’m finding it difficult to decide where to start :) I spent about a month with Franz (from September 15 to October 15 or so), during which time I harvested hazelnuts, walnuts, and apples—which we then turned into apple juice—sorted potatoes for the winter, and harvested vegetables before the arrival of autumn. Franz was always clear and kind in explaining the work, helping me, and encouraging me whenever I needed it. While I was at the farm, I also had the chance to meet and share good times with Franz’s family: his wonderful, kind parents, his siblings, and his nieces and nephews. Alongside these field activities, I also had the privilege of assisting and making my own small contribution to advancing his artistic journey. While I was there, I was also able to help Franz and other wonderful local artists bringing their own artistic installation to live. Witnessing their creative process was wonderful. In the evenings, we all cooked and chatted in a very relaxed, respectful and inspiring atmosphere. Enjoying the generosity with which everyone shared not only their project but also perosnal stories, anecdotes, and emotions was magnificent. After dinner, there was also the chance to enjoy his splendid floating sauna under the stars. In my "free time", besides the beauty of being able to relax outdoors among small and large works of art, St. Florian is perfect for lovely walks and a visit to the magnificent abbey, where there are also organ concerts on Sunday mornings. St.Florian also has excellent bus connections to the city of Linz, and Franz will surely be able to point you toward the most interesting spots and venues there. ( I can already recommend my favorite café (the Florentine) and a wonderful space run by young artists (Raumschiff). During my trips to the city I felt such good vibes that, when I received through a series of coincidences a 9-month job offer in Linz, I accepted it! Franz and I still are in touch and met again. I can't wait to visit him for the opening of the "Flora pondtemorary" exhibitions! Spending a month immersed in the daily life and practices of Franz and his crew was very inspiring and encouraging. It shows that the idea of living a life based on equality, care, and harmony with our surroundings is not a naive dream, but something real and incredibly exciting. What I learned during that time, I have carried with me these past few months, and I will continue to carry it with me wherever I go, striving to express it—even if only in the smallest way—in everything I do in the future.

There is nothing I can write here that can truly live up to the amazing experience I had here. I spent a bit over 2 months at school, and felt so welcome and at home from the moment I arrived. Happy days of teaching across all grades, and fun evenings and weekend adventures with the boarders went by so quickly. The kids are just amazing, I already miss them so much. I can honestly say that the bonds and memories we created together will stay with me forever. I'm also very happy that the first month of my stay coincided with Tracey's visit, which gave me a lot of insight about the history and inner workings of the school. Job and Tracey are such kind-hearted, generous people, and together they make a great team, always ensuring the well-being of all the pupils. It was truly a pleasure to share my time with everyone. Asante sana, and see you again in a few months <3

Ina and Julian are two very nice souls who spent two week with us. They are super quiet and relaxed people. They helped out with all sorts of this, mostly creating the new chicken house. The are easygoing and it is nice to talk to them.

My girlfriend and l met Joe for a day in the city of Trivandrum since he contacted me on workaway regarding a possible stay. So we decided to meet to talk about the possibile volunteer option. We immediately felt on the same level and it was very nice talking to him, since we had the same energy. It was the weekend of Olam Festival and he asked us if we would like to join his team for the evening to set up some sports exercises ans introducing his gym and teaching rooms to the people. It sounded like a nice idea so we joined and had an incredible nice time. We met his staff, which are very cool and friendly people, we got in contact with local people and we made them challenging themselves at the different sports exercises. We would have like to stay longer with Joe as volunteers but sadly our travel plans changed and we had to leave earlier. Joe is a very nice person to spend time and to be around with. He has a good heart and soul and is a lot caring. We really enjoyed talking to him about different topics and lm pretty sure we would have had an incredible time and stay with him! 😊 Also he showed us around the city and introduced us to his mum, which we really appreciated! Also he built up this gym which is not only a gym but also a community and a safe space for everyone to join, even tho you dont wanna workout. Which l think is a wonderful thing! I recommend this workaway to everyone who is into sports or would like to learn how to proper workout, learn about crossfit/boxing/etc and to everyone who wants to get to know locals and be part of an amazing community. Next time we are back to India, we will give some language classes in german and italian in your teaching rooms ;) thank you very much for letting us join your gym family and letting us be part of the Olam Festival! 😊 All the best to you!

We hosted Anna-Katharina for a month early 2026. We thoroughly enjoyed Anna's visit and benefitted enormously from all the hard work she undertook during her stay. She has a lovely positive energy and applies intelligence and commitment to all the tasks she undertook. She truly is a pleasure to have around and adapted quickly to all the situations we presented her with. A great communicator she is totally fluent in English and made really good progress with French during her stay. She was really sweet with my aged parents who live with us and they thoroughly enjoyed the interesting chats she had with them. Anna loves animals and was a great help not only with the horses and ponies but also with our dogs. Anna also has a special super power and that is in the kitchen especially with baking. She made so many delicious cakes and pastries, including Galettes des Rois from scratch, but our particular favourite was the stuffed peshwari naan breads to go with my curries. She kindly made a big batch for the freezer before she left and we've sadly finished them all - Come back Anna ! Not only is she a great cook but importantly cleans up the kitchen as she goes. She also helped me with some much needed sorting out of cupboards and it's only a pity she wasn't here for longer. We enjoyed many evenings putting the world to rights and sharing experiences from our different backgrounds.A nna definitely earned her place as one of our top ten Workawayers. If you get the chance to host her don't hesitate as you won't be dissapointed.

Katie and Ian were wonderful hosts. They both had great attitudes and expectations were communicated clearly. We were able to grow new skills from the maintenance tasks and contribute to the ongoing passion-project of their home. We would recommend them as kind and generous hosts who looked after us very well 😊 Thank you!

What a pleasure to have had Alexandre giving his expertise with permaculture, digging up hundreds of blackberry roots, and putting back the terraces- plus planting the first of this year's food crops :) Thank you for all your hard efforts, and also for bringing me little fruit saplings to plant here :) So nice to have had a willing pair of hands for 3 weeks, as too much for me now. You're welcome back. Enjoy your current workaway

I had a truly wonderful time at Amber’s and Rafail’s place. Amber is such a kind and generous person. Rafail is very joyful and funny, as well as Iosif, who is such a cheerful little guy. The familys cat Ash also got me right away with her cuddly personality. Thanks to Amber, I was able to learn a lot about plant medicine and permaculture. During my stay, I joined online seminars hosted by a friend of hers, focusing on medicinal herbs and their benefits for body and mind. I learned how to make creams, tinctures, shampoos etc. out of medicinal plants. I also took part in various spring garden tasks, including planting flowers and vegetables, pruning, weeding, harvesting parsley, cleaning the balcony, building a fence for the raspberries and preparing the beds for summer. The food Amber cooked was delicious every single day! I also had the chance to meet several friends of the family and joined trips to the mountains and beautiful villages in Evia. I felt comfortable right away, which made the time pass incredibly quickly because I enjoyed it so much. It was ‚perfect‘. ;) Thank you again for everything I was able to experience because of you and I hope to see you again in the summer next time!

Ida was a pleasure to host. She comes across as a care free, fun and bubbly person who is always having a good time, but underneath that she is very responsible and always made sure that she completed the tasks assigned to her with dedication. She is someone who connects with people easily, and can always be seen having conversations and connecting with everyone, so she really made an impact towards making sure that everyone feels like a part of a family. We wish her all the best and highly recommend her as a volunteer for your projects

Cindy, Jean Paul, and Laura were such a kind family with a beautiful property and amazing house that they renovated themselves. We stayed a little less than 2 weeks, but in that time we felt we accomplished quite a lot. Cindy showed us some things in the garden and we did a lot of weeding and wood chipping. We extended the goats fence area with Jean Paul and learned so much in a short time. It was so nice to see everything finished. The cats and goats were so cute and lovely to spend time with. We thouroughly enjoyed biking around the area despite the "mountains" on some days ;) Thank you Cindy and Jean Paul for such a lovely time and best wishes ❤️

Hanchun was a very pleasant Workawayer, always ready to help and try her hand at learning new skills. She is kind and cheerful and always nice to have around. Although she had very limited experience with horses we were lucky to have one of my daughter's horses that is suitable for novices, staying with us at the time so she was able to go for a few hacks with us. I took her out with the ponies carriage driving and she really appreciated the countryside and being with the animals. Hanchun was always interesting to talk with and she was kind enough to make some really delicious Chinese food for us. She was respectful and considerate and worked really hard to help sort out my rather neglected vegetable patch .

I got the opportunity to take care of Emma and Clement’s cat Ulu for a couple of days which was very simple and enjoyable. Ulu is a very easy cat to deal with and also very friendly, and he likes to be close and be petted. The room I stayed in was very pleasant with a big bed and I had a bus very close to the apartment that could take me to the center of Versailles. The city has a nice atmosphere with a market and a castle area with an amazing and enormous garden with a lot of sightseeing opportunities! Emma and Clement are very nice and simple to communicate with and seemed to be very easy going. Thank you guys for the opportunity to take care of Ulu :)

Asnieres sur Oise is a charmig, calm, cozy village with old architecture and close to nature. At the time I was there most of the family members were away so it was only me and Fabienne which worked very well! Most of the tasks I was doing during my time were gardening, cleaning windows and fixing minor things on a bike which I also could borrow! I think Fabienne is a very caring and easy going person that cooked all meals from scratch with mostly organic quality food. She was very clear and simple describing the tasks and the simple rules of the house so it was very easy to understand. I could choose my work time as I wanted which gave me the opportunity to visit Paris every day if I wanted to. It was possible to take the bike (sometimes during the day also bus) to two different train stations that were around 10–20 min away. Fabienne is very nice to conversate with and can share a lot about French culture which makes the meals even more pleasant. In general I had a very good time and the room I was staying in was very cozy and private with a super comfortable bed! Thank you so much Fabienne for your care and this Work Away opportunity! Best regards Driton

Yufuka is a nice Japanese woman who has been with us for 12 days to help with work in the garden. An enthusiastic woman who is open to getting to know the Dutch culture. We have done various work in the garden together. That went very well. The cooperation was very pleasant. The communal meals were mainly the moments to exchange ideas about experiences and cultural differences. We are very happy with her help.
