My two-week volunteer experience at YEAH! was wonderful and truly memorable. If you decide to volunteer here, you will work about 4 hours a day (22 hours a week, from Monday to Saturday). You will be in charge of your own classes for about half of that time, and for the remainder, you will assist the local teachers in their lessons. After discussing with the local teachers online beforehand and consulting with them again upon my arrival, I decided to teach classes focused on Japanese language and culture. The students here are highly motivated, with English levels ranging from A1 to B1 on the CEFR scale. While some classes can speak English fluently, many students are still learning. You will see a lot of elementary school kids on Saturdays, but generally, you will be teaching high schoolers, university students, and adults. The students really try their best to understand what we volunteers are saying. They are incredibly cooperative, which made teaching here highly enjoyable and comfortable. The school teachers and staff also speak English and have a deep, welcoming openness to other cultures. I felt so comfortable at the school that I had almost no issues at all. The classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with projectors, and I generously received free coffee and snacks from the school shop every day. My host, Felipe, and his partner, Valeria, were absolutely amazing (Angelica, who is listed as the host on the page, is his older sister and the school manager). The Workaway page mentions that volunteers need to cook their own breakfast and dinner, but the three of us often went out to eat, or they would cook for me, and we shared many great conversations. Of course, they completely respect your preferences, so if you prefer to eat dinner alone, that is perfectly fine too. The host buys the ingredients for breakfast and dinner, and a weekly allowance is provided to cover transportation and lunch. On the weekends, Felipe and Valeria took the time to show me around various places. They also respected my need for personal time and my remote work for Japan. If you are hoping to volunteer at this school, I highly recommend preparing something to share your country's unique culture with the students and your hosts. I brought a sushi-making kit from Japan, hosted a sushi cooking class for the students, and threw a hand-rolled sushi (temaki-sushi) party for Felipe and his family. The students give you so much energy and kindness that once you arrive, you will definitely want to give back to them and the staff. In summary, it's rare to find such an incredible volunteer placement. It’s relatively close to Bogota and surrounded by beautiful nature. I highly recommend coming here to fully experience and enjoy the local culture!

A beautiful place surrounded by forest, just outside the village of Duncan. The property offers a pool, hot tub, and gym for use during free time. My room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The profile page is somewhat outdated, as Joy no longer lives on site. Jason is now managing the property and the Workaway profile. Instead of messaging with Joy, as I had assumed, I was messaging with Jason, which I did not always find to be reliable. When I arrived, I had expected a women-led household, so the dynamic was different from what I had imagined. The daily routine and the type of projects are currently quite focused on practical, hands-on work, which may particularly appeal to people who enjoy physical outdoor tasks. You have fixed 5 working hours and lots of free time. As a solo female traveler, I personally would have appreciated more balance in the type of work and structure. But there was always a friendly atmosphere among the 6–8 Workawayers staying there, which made it a socially rich experience. Overall, it was an interesting and valuable stay — Everything is available to you, and you can quickly feel at home.

We just spend a few days at Gandis, but it was enough to feel part of the family. Gandis, Rizal, Alisha, Barack and Mamy welcomed us like if they know us since a long time. They really are a lovely family, kind and funny, with interesting things to say. To share a bit of their lives was really refreshing and an amazing experience. Regarding the English teaching, we went with Gandis and Rizal at few student's places to share some knowledges with them. The classes were always happy moments, and the students seemed to enjoyed it. We would stay longer if we could, thank you for everything 🧡

Hosting this lovely Canadian family was one of the highlights of my Workaway life. Zenovia, Tyler and their lovely son Metro are truly beautiful people, who are an absolute joy to have around. They are friendly, interesting and inspirational - getting on with everybody here and willingly sharing their experience and knowledge and positivity. Best of all they are talented, practical and hardworking when it comes to Workaway help. Zenovia is the ultimate gardener - weeding and clearing my garden just the way I like iit done - sensitively and thoroughly. She is also very experienced in herbal medicine, and it was great to swap herbal recipes and ideas with her. Tyler was a brilliant garden/handyman - he had great input with the garden projects - full of practical, helpful ideas - he (and Metro) cleared a long neglected area of the garden and built a path - and he was a weed eating (strimming) wizard. Metro was a very talented and mature 15 year old. He helped Tyler with a lot of the heavy garden work and painted the most amazing mural of `Marty the St. Clair seagull" on my letter box. All-in-all it was a special experience having these guys here - I only wish it could have been longer . Any hosts who can catch them while they are here will be very lucky.Totally recommended! I wish them all the best for their journey around New Zealand and beyond - and hope I see them again one day.

We had an absolutely wonderful week in Dunedin. The view is simply magnificent, a true little slice of paradise. The garden is stunning, lovingly tended, and the house is very welcoming. The work was varied and always done in a cheerful atmosphere. We were a veritable army of Workaways, and yet everything was perfectly organized! Sandra managed the whole team with kindness. She handles everything with a smile and impressive organization. We laughed a lot and shared some truly wonderful moments together. The atmosphere was jovial from morning till night, which made the experience even more enriching. We wholeheartedly recommend this place. We had a fantastic time. Sandra is a wonderful person—thank you for everything!

I did a Workaway with Jose and Phil in Jan-Feb 2026 and had a really nice time staying with them. The work was manageable and varied. I mostly did weeding, but also helped out with the horses, did some cleaning and packed some boxes. I also got to ride a bit during my stay, which I really enjoyed. I joined Jose for a cross country clinic in Sydney for a day, which was a fun experience and something I appreciated being included in. I had a small issue with my wrist during my stay, and Jose and Phil were very understanding about it. They adjusted my tasks so I would not overload my arm, which I’m very thankful for. They are genuinely kind people who always greeted me with smiles in the mornings and made me feel at home. Evenings were spent around the dinner table having interesting conversations and enjoying the delicious meals Phil cooked. I am grateful for the time I spent with them and the animals on their farm. Odie is a very sweet dog, the horses are lovely, and the chickens kept me great company while weeding in the garden.

Hiroshi is the best! This was my first Workaway experience and I’m so glad it was with Hiroshi. He tried his best to make me feel at home. He’s very generous with his food and time. He took me to the best places and introduced me to some of his friends. As I’m trying to learn Japanese, he explained some phrases to me. Moreover, he has some really good books and games at his flat in order to study not only the language but also the culture. Staying with him is definitely a great idea. Hiroshi is delightful and his flat is in a great area the station is right around the corner.

Johanna stayed at my farm for 3 1/2 weeks Oct/Nov 2025. She was polite, kind, hard working, reliable, brought experience with horses and chickens, and learned the animal care and housekeeping tasks exactly as I asked her to do. She helped clean up after 7 dogs, a barn cat, fed goats, sheep, rabbits, and llamas, as well as the horse. She got along well with Airbnb visitors, was kind and helpful to another less experienced workawayer, (helped orient her to farm work) , overall was a pleasure to host, and really stepped in helped lighten my work during the time she was here. I think any host will be very lucky to have Johanna stay with them!

We had a wonderful stay at the ranch. Susanne wasn't there, but we were welcomed by the rest of the family. It was our first workaway experience and our hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming. Between the beautiful landscapes, the animals (goats, horses, cows, sheep, and... dogs), and the good food, this place is fantastic. We had to take care of the kids (baby goat) so basicaly to feed them and clean the enclosure. We also painted the inside of a cabin and started to sand the outside. Some wood work when the weather allows it, and various daily tasks. This is a very busy family, so you have to be autonomous to enjoy this experience. On a personal level, it was a great adventure. We only stayed for a month, but it felt like much longer because we felt so at home there. You get the chance to go to Canmore on the week ends which is amazing (you can just spend time in the city, or take a bus and then go to a hike around Canmore or in Banff, or even try cross country. There are plenty of activities!) Thanks to Sarah, Rodd, Amelia, Esther, Lyla, Rorry, Kim, Kevin and Susanne for those nice memories we'll keep in mind. See you soon!

The ten five star reviews that Outi has received at the time that I write this feedback are consistent with my experience with her. Speaking as someone of almost exactly the same age, I was a little unsure of how she would go on the steep terraina and physical jobs that my projects involve. I very quickly realised that my initial concerns were unfounded - she moved over the terrain with ease, is fit and strong, lots of stamina and readily keeps up with younger guests. Outi is a considerate, tidy guest and highly adaptable to household conditions. She really fitted in with the others staying (an overflowing quota of 5 Workawayers for a short period), is tidy, helpful and has all the initiative of someone used to running her own home. Her job around the land was primarily the control of noxious tree weeds - she soon became familiar with the 4-5 target species and the 3 techniques for dealing with them. She asked pertinent questions and was conscientious to ensure that she understood what she was doing and why. Her other major contribution was with staining my house, where her considerable past painting experience saw her as something of a leader of a team of 3. Once again, she did a thorough and efficient job of the exercise. I've enjoyed hosting Outi and feel like I've really benefitted from her friendly nature and committed help. No doubt she'll bring these same qualities to other Workawayer experiences Many thanks Outi and happy travels

Ben has made a really worthwhile contribution to the project during his stay. His energy has been devoted to resolving a particularly demanding part of a bike/walk track (alongside Ulysse), harvesting and planting comfrey and moving quite a bit of mulch. His particular triumph was topping a bunch of gum and wattle trees along the edge of the property, working at some height off a ladder. He did a great job with all of these tasks and was always ready with a positive attitude and good spirit. He was a calm and laid back presence around the house, with the added bonus of a dry wit. Ben arrived at a time when other Workawayers had decided to extend their stay and he was generous enough to sleep in his car so that they could enjoy a bed. In summary, Ben has been a model Workawayer and it's been a pleasure to have him stay - strongly recommended Thanks for everything, Ben

It was such a pleasure to welcome you to become a member of our family. Only 3 weeks, it was not a long time, but I can confidently say that you are a very warm, responsible, and composed person. Your lessons were very engaged the children in ways that I have not seen before. You brought so much happiness and inspiration to us, especially the kids. I hope that lessons from students, kids, and children with autism bring you more new experiences. We will miss you and wish you well in your life. Hope to see you again in Vietnam.

We had a really great experience staying with Serena and felt welcome from the start. The food was a big highlight — healthy, varied, and always delicious. We really appreciated the effort put into cooking balanced meals. The house is beautiful, and we had a very comfortable bedroom with our own private bathroom. It a dream Workaway setup surrounded by nature, horses and sheep. Communication about the daily jobs was clear and straightforward. We were given guidance on what needed to be done but also trusted to manage our own hours depending on the tasks for the day, which we appreciated. When Jonathan got sick with a fever, Serena was very kind and understanding, encouraging him to rest and recover. That meant a lot to us. She is a positive person with an interesting life story, and we enjoyed our conversations. The location is also great — a safe and lovely place to stay while being close to Auckland to explore. We’re very grateful for the experience and would happily recommend staying here.

Bec, Damian and Emily were so nice and welcoming, I am so happy they were my first workaway experience as they are great hosts. They asked me to clean the stables out, which was the main task, and then i mostly picked up sticks in the garden and trimmed some hedges. Their dogs were so cute and so friendly. I would recommend bec and damian's place if you love animals. The room was big, the bed was comfortable and the chandelier was beautiful!

Mel and Geoff seriously gave me the most impactful experience I could have ever imagined! While Geoff was usually busy with farm work, Mel really took me in as her American daughter. She showed me all around, including day trips to the Bush, beach, around town, and made sure to let me meet as many people and see the inside as many local houses as possible. We shared almost every meal together. I made so many local friends, went on daily walks with Daisy, and got to learn a bit about farm life. Their paddocks are just the most beautiful land I've ever seen, and I was happy to help out with lots of basic house chores, like cleaning windows, sanding/oiling tables, and cleaning up after meals. This was the best few weeks ever and the best first workaway experience i could have had. I would recommend no doubt! Thankyou thankyou Mel and Geoff one billion times!!!! Love, Dezi

I would recommend everyone to come here as a volunteer. The place has so many kind and lovely people, and this experience can help you gain valuable hostel working experience! Kuala Lumpur’s weather is quite humid, so remember to bring suitable clothes and sunscreen. Thank you Alex and Zen and everyone, for giving me this opportunity to volunteer at your hostel. It was an amazing time — we worked, played, and enjoyed every moment together. Thank you for your kindness to me. I truly hope we will meet again soon.

Laura and I really enjoyed our stay with Logan and Ann! We spent a week with them while shopping for apartments in Charlottesville back in October, and it couldn’t have gone any better. Their house is adorable, and their neighborhood is quiet and quaint, and we were both impressed by the garden, which is absolutely gorgeous even in the fall! We enjoyed swapping stories with Logan and Ann in the evenings, and we loved Logan’s cooking. Our brief stay was a great experience, and we'd highly recommend them as hosts!
