  • Description

Hi! I'm new to joining workaway because I want to experience travel in a new and authentic way, where i can meet interesting and diverse people, while slowing down my travel style. I'm trying my best to put off settling into a job in my field of study in environmental biotechnology, by exploring, having new experiences and collecting hobbies. I'm very very keen on skiing, camping, hiking, beaches, ceramics, animals and particularly any ways of combining the above. I'm always happy when I'm contributing to something special and sustainable, and if I could share my cooking, and very average German language skills somewhere that'd be even better:)

More details about my language interests
I am comfortable teaching English to someone wanting to learn any level of English, including creating actual lesson plans for beginners and just casual conversation to improve vocabulary. I would like to learn to speak German to the best that I can, any help with teaching me would be fantastic. At the moment I can have very basic introductory conversations and am beginning to understand sentence structure, but I struggle with speaking confidence and would like to practice.

  • More details about your skills

I have about 6 years combined experience working in different hospitality and retail roles, including waitressing, bartending/cocktail making, barista (latte art is still a work in progress) and working with stock.
I've worked and lived in two ski seasons, one in Japan and one Australia so I have experience working and adapting to different cultures and living environments.
While studying biotechnology at university, I looked at ecology and environmental practices, and have experience in field work analysis and identification methods.
During school I attended a number of outdoor education camps where life on the farm included gardening, building, cooking and woodwork. These camps sparked an interest in community living and living off the land. As well as a sustainable cyclical lifestyle that I would like to implement into my life more.
First aid certificate and pool lifeguard certificate.
I love to cook and have plenty of experience cooking for large groups, I particularly enjoy experimenting with different cuisines and vegetarian food.
At home I propagate my own indoor plants, as well as look after a garden space doing things such as weeding, planting, chopping wood ect. I'm good with my hands and a quick learner for anything outdoorsy.
I took courses in pottery wheel throwing and would love to share and teach those skills if given the opportunity.
I have worked on a casual basis for two years now as a disability support worker, helping with daily tasks, physio, quality of life and mostly being someone to offer support and talk to! This was a very fulfilling role for me and I would like to carry the same values of care and support through my life and interactions with others.
