I volunteered in the English Medium School for 6 weeks in January and February this year (2026). If anything, the school, the grounds and the experience were even better than the advert described. I was treated with great kindness and care and had the opportunity to participate in many events and festivals during my stay. Urvashi (the Volunteer Coordinator) anticipated all my questions and was able to put me in touch with previous volunteers to provide extra context and details. She also took care when matching me with another volunteer to be partnered with. I found the experience a great introduction to India (this was my first visit and the first place I visited) as I could learn about the culture, Hinduism and the Gujarati language with most Western comforts. I would advise any prospective volunteers to try and make the most of the opportunities offered, to learn a few phrases in Gujarati and just greet everyone with a smile and, 'Jai Swaminarayan'. If you are planning to volunteer at the School and would like any advice (I've been a teacher for 12 years), please feel free to get in contact via Workaway or Urvashi.

I found myself very suddenly at Shaun's home in Sabini hills. Shaun was kind enough to pick me up from the airport in Rome and trusted me alone with the animals during his absence. I had a whole house for myself with enormous bed, fridge full of mozzarella, a library worth of books.. and Tony the cat finding it's way in. My responsibility was basically taking Vincent & Jaco on adventures to a picturesque fields behind the house and feed the rest of small animal family, and had freedom to find myself some miscellaneous task. Although we are so close, and well-connected to Rome and lovely regional towns, I found it sufficient to stay at the property with a book, cup of coffee and a cat on my lap, amidst of the hills. Shaun is easygoing and friendly, well-read and experienced, sharing interesting and fresh perspectives on virtually any topic you throw at him. He takes his craft seriously, but remains grounded and simple when not behind the canvas. Thanks again for having me and shaping my favourite experience in Italy so far (: Ciao! Anton

It’s so nice to have a place to call home, away from home. I can highly recommend anyone to stay with David. He is easy to work with, very trusting, and I had a lot of freedom in organizing my day. Whenever I had a question or needed something, David was always very helpful. The place is beautiful with only a two minute walk to the beach, and after having stayed in hostels for a while, it was really nice to have my own room and kitchen. The basement is perfect for summer, it can get quite hot here, so that’s definitely the best place to spend the hot afternoons. And of course, I can’t forget to mention the cuddliest cat ever, Zoe. She jumped on my lap when I first arrived, the instant I sat down. I will definitely miss her cuddles..a lot! Thank you David so much for letting me stay and come back a second time. I will be forever grateful!

After a 7 year hiatus I returned for my 2nd visit. It was like coming home! Ella and Alessandro are so warm and welcoming they make me feel like family. When I messaged Ella about returning I was quite nervous since I am now 75 (albeit pretty fit). How ecstatic I was when she messaged right back inviting me over. Although I was there for 6 weeks the time flew by. I was indulging my passion by helping with the gardening and in my free time taking walks to explore the countryside. I am not waiting another 7 years to return. Thank you Ella and Alessandro!

I stayed with Mardi and Steve for a week and felt very good in the land and during my time with them. They are surrounded by pure nature, I enjoyed the tasks that they would give me at the begining of the day, the feedback we were both giving to each other, the nice energy of the land, the meals that we shared some evenings, their dogs, the views and the flexibility that they had towards me and my stay. I appreciate the understanding and communication that we had as we needed to do some arrangements on the way. Really grateful for the nice energy Mardi has as I was spending more time with her. Really open to learn and teach and to elevate vibration. Also really nice community in the area! Thank you so much!

My first workaway experience with Roberto and Pimmy was wonderful. They are both very friendly and kind people who taught me a lot about Spanish culture and food, and I loved hearing about their interesting stories and experiences. They also took me out for lovely meals and day trips. I really enjoyed getting to know the children as well. The twins are intelligent and funny, and Luis is adorable. ¡Muchas gracias! 謝謝你們🤗 I hope to see you all again soon!

I stayed with Julian, Marcela and their beautiful daughter Helena for 2-3 weeks. I first want to thank them both for their hospitality, support and kindness; I learned so much about Colombian culture, my Spanish improved a lot and I truly able to connect with nature and the peace in La Buitrera. Everyday we would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together, do some work around the house and in their garden, and share conversation and experiences throughout the day. I felt that was a part of their family and could not have been more welcomed. I couldn't recommend staying with them more if you want to connect with nature, improve your Spanish and have an authentic Colombian experience.

This is was an amazing way for us to be able to experience and learn from Honduras. The staff at the school and from the organization went above and beyond to welcome us and help us feel comfortable here. I would recommend this volunteer work for anyone who loves connecting with kids, becoming a part of a big family and who loves eating baleadas! Each day we came into the school we were met with hugs, funny conversations, opportunities to create and be leaders and also to support the staff in the school. There is room for people to use their passions to connect with and teach the kids. One thing to note is that you will be living in a small city in Honduras so knowing some Spanish is very helpful as there aren't a lot of tourists here, so not many people know English outside of the school. We are very happy with our time here and would definitely love to return again some day!

Having Saki with us made our days so much easier and felt somewhat brighter with Saki here with us. She was such a delightful young woman to have in our company. The month she was with us seemed to go by so fast. We were so impressed by her dedication and willingness to try anything asked of her. I've never seen a worker in all the years we have hosted, 'running' behind a wheelbarrow or really any task in the garden that needed fetching :) Her black belt skills in Karate were impressive...so was her jump roping abilities in her 'relaxing' time :) Her work ethic was worth noting too. Always punctual, eager to jump in and help with any project with enthusiasm and determination. Her joy and giggles made my days happier, along with, 'thank you' on practically everything - I would always whisper back...'thank you' :) Whoever has the fortune of hosting Saki will be in store for a real treat. She's one in a million! - Thanks again Saki - you will be sorely missed xo

Jo was our first Workawayer and she set the standard really high. Sweet, considerate, funny, sensitive, friendly, creative and open-minded = that was the personality we got to enjoy for nearly a month. Hard-working, attentionate to detail, proactive, versatile, organized, steady and strong = those were the work qualities that didn't go unnoticed. It's been a week that Jo left our home and she's really missed. Good luck in all your future endeavors, you are such a great person and deserve only the best!

Te vamos a extrañar! ¡Hasta siempre, Izar!

I loved my stay in the hostel so much that I ended up staying 2 months instead of one and I feel like Antigua became another home for me. Everyone starting from the manager Pablo, to my colleagues and kitchen staff and the owners as well were very welcoming and ready to help at any point. Thank you!!

Lucie and her family were truly lovely, I stayed with them for about a month and it was my first experience as a volunteer, I was so nervous, but she radiates so much charisma and such a beautiful energy that makes you feel at home. Near her home you can find the red metro line at "Roztyly", right there there is a forest you can walk through, several bus options, there is a Tesco Express supermarket, and it is a lovely neighborhood where you can go for a walk. We worked in her home, where we traveled through time into the memories of her and her family, we organized things that belonged to past generations of her family and with so much respect she told me about each object that caught my attention, and we also worked in her garden, turning the soil, transplanting horticultural plants, painting, etc. The quality time was also very nice, we went for a walk in the forest, had long conversations after dinner, enjoyed the sun in the garden, hugged Šumik (the white-furred member of the family), played board games, and even went to see one of Lucie’s choir performances. Without a doubt it was a great and beautiful first experience, I am very grateful to them and I invite future volunteers to join this adventure with Lucie and her family. And I really enjoyed speaking Spanish while being far from home. Thank you! With love, Jo 🌱💚🌱

We enjoyed having Olga and Murat stay with us for 6 weeks. They are very dedicated and focused on their purpose for being with us, which is to help out. They follow instructions well and work diligently till the job is done. Murat doesn’t speak much English but he was practicing every day and I noticed an improvement by the time they left. Olga was always there to translate if necessary to ensure our requests were clear. They are respectful, clean and tidy guests. They are both kind and interesting and easy to have around. We wish them well in their travels.

Thaïs and Benjamin stayed with us in February 2026. Thaïs taught one-on-one French lessons to both children and adults, while Benjamin worked on updating our website. They both did a great job, and it was a pleasure having them with us. We would happily recommend them for similar projects!

María Fernanda was so helpful! She helped me make cob to fill the spaces between the walls and window and door frames. She also helped me make round screens for my circular windows. I had to go the States to visit family and she took care of my home and all the animals! She is hardworking and completely trustworthy! She also became a great friend! I’m so grateful we met! Thank you Mafer! ♥️🕉🌿
