Roos and Alwin are a great couple! Helpful, hard working, on the ball and not afraid to get their hands dirty! There’s always a variety of things to do at our place and they both can turn their hand to anything, even if they haven’t done it before they’ll give things a go. They also did some research to help us on our little projects and shared ideas. Roos and I did a lot of organising together and we had a lot of fun! She has a great eye for detail and likes to have things in good order which I loved! Alwin was confident using a chainsaw and other machinery and driving the trailer which was really handy, he taught me how to use some machinery I’ve not used before. They’re both genuine, kind people who think outside of the box. It was great spending time with them both, we shared similar interests and life goals, they’re good fun and gave us valuable, honest feedback and good ideas. We wish them all the best for their exciting adventures ahead and they’re always welcome for more visits! :)

We spent almost a week with Ahmad and were able to park and stay overnight in our camper right in front of his house. We felt very welcome, and the neighborhood was exceptionally friendly and open. Ahmad showed us how to drive into the desert without a 4x4, which allowed us to spend several days with our own camper next to his Bedouin tent. He gave us a very authentic and impressive insight into Bedouin life: we met many of his friends, saw how the traditional dish Arbud is prepared, accompanied him to his work, drank lots of tea together, and drove into the desert at night. During our stay, one of his sheep gave birth – we were able to witness it and even help with the first steps. We could hardly have received a more personal insight anywhere else. We also supported him a little, including setting up a GetYourGuide account and helping build his sheep shelter. A culturally enriching experience with many special encounters.

Highly recommended! We feel SO grateful for the experience at Marlyn's beautiful place! Marlyn is one of a kind! Generous, wise, energetic, creative and such a good hearted person! We fell in love with her form the first moment! Her place has many things to offer and we had the freedom to help with various tasks. The place is soulful, brings together amazing people, an opportunity to learn and be away form the city, connecting with nature and eating delicious food! Thank you so much for everything, we love you so much and looking forward seeing you in the future❤️

Ichy was a great host. She responded within a few hours and I visited within a couple of days of first messaging her. The house is clean and the facilities work well. The countyside of Taichung is nice. The two nearby cities are amazing places. The train station is around a 20 min walk away from the school, but the route is urbanized. The food her and her extended family provided was sound. I could pick and cook vegetables from the garden. There is also a nightmarket nearby as well as lots of shops. It was a quiet visit over the New Year period. Though I'm sure it is more exciting during term time when the school is open. Thankyou. 👍👍👍👍👍.

Had a great time, it was a great routine of 3 hours work in the morning then you have the day free to chill in the beautiful house or go and explore the area. the dogs were all super friendly, and so were the resident long term German volunteers, once they've warmed up to you. Lots of freedom and lots of dogs.

I had a great time staying with Marcel, who I would describe as a friendly, open-minded, generous, practical, and easy-going person on the more introverted side. We met for dinner in Ghent before going to his house, and I stayed with him for a bit over a month at the start of the winter season. Due to the time of year, most of my work involved learning how to build a Hügelkultur, (a traditional German farming method) harvesting fruits & veges, weeding, a bit of planting, building a big rock wall, and cleaning the house. I also did a lot of cooking, foraging wild edible plants, learned a bit of woodworking, some other small tasks, and perhaps most importantly had two friendly cats to cuddle. 😸 Marcel gave me a lot of autonomy, trust, and always tried to give me multiple options for daily tasks - I generally worked for 4-6h/day, 5 days/week, in exchange for accomodation, basically unlimited food and drinks, (within reason of course) and learning new skills. Staying with him and being more immersed in nature was a great way to decompress my nervous system and learn new skills, especially after long periods of travelling and living in busy cities. We had many nice conversations over dinner and learned from eachother aswell - He has a LOT of knowledge in bio-medical science, most of which I was unfortunately not well-educated enough to really understand. 😆 He's passionate about food & nutrition, sustainability, woodworking & building his home, learning about other perspectives, and we had many interesting conversations about culture and other things aswell. I also gained a new appreciation for cooking while I was there, which was one of the highlights for me! Marcel has a large variety of edible plants available on his land, (both agricultural and wild) which makes meals feel more meaningful, tasty, and healthy. He was happy to help me learn about edible or otherwise useful wild plants and was generous in buying food for me, so I was encouraged to experiment with new ingredients, recipes, and cooking techniques which we both greatly enjoyed the results of. I only started to learn woodworking near the end of my stay, but he also helped me make a shadowbox for preserving a couple of dead dragonflies I found, as well as teaching me how to make a cutting board (which was much more satisfying than I expected!) At the end of my stay he was also happy to store my larger suitcase for me to pick up in the future, which made my travel journeys much easier. Whenever I'm looking to retreat to nature for a bit and learn more farming or woodworking skills, I'll definitely consider coming to stay again. He is also currently working towards building a food-forest for his local community, which I look forward to seeing and hearing about. Thank you for the wonderful experience, and until next time! Some potential downsides to consider: - The house accumulates dust and sawdust pretty quickly due to the wood workshop and the house being an ongoing construction project, so this is not a recommended stay for someone with sensitive lungs. If your lungs are fine then it's no problem though, I never experienced any sneezing or irritation. - If you like to visit cities, then Marcel's house is fairly isolated for someone who doesn't have a car. However, on weekends he was always happy to drive me to a nearby train station (eg. Ronse or Leuze) and pick me up in the morning so I could go on 1 or 2 day trips to other cities, which was very much appreciated. During weekdays he was also happy for me to come with him to Ghent in the morning on his way to work. There is a bus ~20m walk away to a town with a train station, but it only runs a few times per day in the morning and evenings, so I never took it. Marcel also had a bike I could use, but it takes about 30m return to get to the nearest village. There's a big hill aswell, which is steep enough that I had to get off the bike and walk it uphill for 10-15 minutes. Not something I wanted to do on a regular basis, but it was helpful for when I needed to go into town.

It was lovely to have Charlotte here, even though only for 3 days! In that short time I experienced her observant, considerate and friendly nature and benefited from her ability to take appropriate initiative and do tasks thoroughly, in a relaxed and respectful manner. She's welcome back anytime!

Kyosei stayed with our family for 47 days from January 8 to February 23, 2026, and he was a wonderful helper and a pleasure to host. He was very helpful with everyday chores like cooking and cleaning and was always willing to pitch in. He became part of our daily routine and made things run more smoothly around the house. Kyosei was especially lovely with our toddler. They had a lot of fun playing together, and Kyosei was patient, kind, and engaged. He is also a great soccer player and brought lots of energy to indoor play. During his stay he joined us on many outings and experiences, including trips to Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Snow Valley, as well as exploring Barrie and the surrounding area. He approached everything with curiosity and enthusiasm. Kyosei was working on improving his English during his stay and made great progress. It was also special to learn a bit about Japanese culture from him, and he enjoyed sharing some Japanese language and traditions with us. Kyosei is respectful, responsible, and easy to live with. We would happily recommend him to other hosts, and he would be welcome back here anytime. :)

I'm a bit late here, but I stayed by the family during the second half of January, and it was simply wonderful :) This was my first Workaway experience, so i didn't really know what to expect, but my nervousness disappeared as soon as i arrived. Doris is extremely kind-hearted and comprehensive, she always made sure that the tasks suited well and took the time to explain when i misunderstood something. Due to the cold and the snow, i mostly worked in and around the house (cooking, household, pets, etc.) We also got to play games, go to the cinema and visit the neighbourhood, and everything was amazing! I'm very thankful to the family for their hospitality and i truly hope that i can stop by Arrenkamp someday again :) I definitely recommend getting in touch if you are looking for a wonderful human experience in the german countryside!

The time with Juan, Cata, Andino and Mara was very diverse and unique. Even though we were only there for a week, we did many different activities, such as picking raspberries and cherries, cooking, cleaning, and working with clay. At the beginning, we went to a jazz concert by Juan and later also to a concert by Catalina. We really appreciated that they invited us. It was one of the most beautiful experiences of the trip. Friends were often there too, and we worked together with them, which made us feel comfortable very quickly. One thing that was a bit unfortunate was that the tent was broken and we had to repair it. Otherwise, the time was really beautiful, and we wish them all the best.

Thank you so much Alessia for your beautiful words and for recommending the experience at La Casa de Campo. Reading your message truly fills our hearts with gratitude. It was a joy to have you with us. Your positive energy, responsibility, and kindness made everything flow naturally. The dogs were happy, the plants well cared for, and every task you helped with — especially during the events — meant a lot to us. But beyond the work, what we value most is the connection we built and the moments we shared. Knowing that you felt like part of our big family is the greatest compliment we could receive, because that is exactly how we see every volunteer who comes into our home — not as guests, but as family. We truly hope life brings you many more wonderful adventures, that nothing stands in the way of your dreams, and that you are always blessed with good health and everything you need. Remember that wherever you go, you will always be part of La Casa de Campo — one more member of this family that now extends beyond borders. Our doors will always be open for you. With all our love, Your family at La Casa de Campo 🤍

Nicole was our very first Workawayer after creating our profile, and what an incredible experience it was! Even though she could only stay with us for one week, as she was nearing the end of her time in Sri Lanka, we connected instantly and truly made the most of her stay. Nicole became part of our family from day one. She supported us in so many ways around our busy home, from cleaning and gardening to organizing and sharing creative ideas and helpful tips. She even spoiled me with a delicious daily coffee 😊 Nothing was ever too much for her, and she always offered her help with genuine care and enthusiasm. She was especially wonderful with our son with autism, showing patience, kindness, and natural understanding. This meant a great deal to us. Mealtimes were a special highlight, filled with interesting conversations and plenty of laughter. Nicole brought such positive energy into our home. We can highly recommend Nicole to any future host. She is responsible, warm, proactive, and a joy to have around. We truly hope that one day she will return to Sri Lanka and visit us again. Thank you again, Nicole, for the beautiful week we shared and the great memories we made! With lots of love from our family!

I had an amazing 3.5 weeks here, the hostel was exactly what I had hoped for. I was organizing activities for the guests, like hikes, karaoke or game nights, which is fun and super easy work. The hostel has a great kitchen and a beautiful garden. The couches outside are so comfy, once you lie down you just don't wanna get up again. I had a lot of time to chill, read books, exercise etc. The little town of El Valle is beautiful and all the people are soo friendly. But what really made my stay was how nice the staff is. Thank you to Jakob, Tati and everyone else!

The projects Fulmar and the foundation are building are deeply inspiring. Fulmar is one of the most hardworking and visionary women I’ve ever met — I learned so much from her across so many areas. I arrived during the final week of planting season, which was fascinating to witness, and I also had the opportunity to learn about bio-construction while helping to build additional volunteer rooms. This project is like a living, breathing sustainable laboratory. Fulmar and Ray are creating a life rooted in intention and sustainability, raising their two beautiful children in a way that aligns with their values. I was there during a fundraising campaign that successfully raised enough money to purchase more land for reforestation and rehabilitation — it was powerful to see that impact firsthand. Through the foundation, we also visited Indigenous community greenhouses to support planting initiatives. Fulmar trusted me to organise and manage an “Adopt a Tree Day” marketing event in Santa Marta. It was a success, with over 100 trees adopted in one day, and I felt genuinely valued and empowered. This is a place of care, respect and love. A life-changing experience for me — thank you.
