I had a fantastic time at the cocoa farm and stayed for two weeks. The work is well organised with a wide variety of tasks such as cooking/feeding the dogs (and puppies), weeding and taking the cow out for grazing. With everything you're given the choice to select areas of work you'd be keen to help with. The food is a real highlight, everything is freshly prepared, super tasty, and both healthy and nutritious. Mukunth does a great job organising all the chores, making everything clear and well-structured, so you always know what needs to be done. Mayoor is incredibly knowledgeable about the farm and local agriculture, and he also has an excellent taste in music, which adds to the great atmosphere. You get weekends off, which makes it easy to explore nearby. I went surfing in Mulki and also took a trip up to Gokarna to enjoy the beaches. There’s also the chance to visit nearby cocoa, coconut, and betel nut farm a few kilometres away, where you’ll learn a lot more about local farming and growing practices. I would highly recommend this Workaway to anyone looking for a relaxed, educational, and welcoming farm experience.

Annemarie and her family stayed with us for two weeks, and what a gift that time was. From the very first days, their two boys and our daughter connected beautifully. The play flowed effortlessly, and through that daily, joyful immersion our daughter’s confidence in speaking German grew so much. It was wonderful to witness language learning happen so naturally, powered by friendship and laughter 🌱 As helpers, Annemarie and her family were incredibly dedicated. They worked so hard that we genuinely had to remind them to take breaks. Thanks to their effort, we are now two ornamental cherry tree root systems lighter, a large part of our citrus orchard is planted, and there was no shortage of grass raking and plant removal tackled with good humour and determination. Beyond the work, they fully shared life with us. It felt very special to have them join us for a museum visit to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, turning it into a truly memorable family day. Shared meals, games, conversations, and plenty of fun filled the evenings and made the house feel lively and warm. Their six-year-old deserves a special mention: endlessly curious, observant, and enthusiastic. He is probably now fully capable of planting a citrus orchard himself and can confidently explain companion planting, weed suppression with cardboard, and more. A small permaculturist in the making 🌳 We are deeply grateful for everything Annemarie and her family shared with us: their energy, kindness, effort, and openness. It was a real joy having them here, and we sincerely hope our paths cross again, whether back here in New Zealand or one day in Germany.

Sara and Marco hosted us for almost two weeks with their two beautiful children! They are incredibly organized, from the kitchen to the vegetable garden, finding smart, interesting, and aesthetic solutions for every work area. They explained all the work they did to renovate their home, and their commitment produced a fantastic result. The tasks were clear, and I enjoyed spending a lot of time outdoors in their beautiful orchard. Vienna was very close and accessible by train. The only difficulty for us was the conversation; perhaps it was just a cultural clash or we simply didn't connect as people. Despite this, I consider them fantastic people who have so much to share!

This family hosted us for almost two weeks in a beautiful loft the last summer. We had plenty of space and independence. It was easy to chat and communicate. They were very kind to us and helped us in various situations: they lent us their bike trailer and their bicycles to take our son out to explore the surrounding area, they gave us the opportunity to suggest daily activities based on our abilities, and they accompanied us to explore the wine region. It was so much fun cooking for them with the Thermomix and chatting while discovering our mutual stories. Thanks a lot!

Mi experiencia en la finca de Damien ha sido excelente. He aprendido mucho con él tanto en materia de naturaleza como de permacultura. Me ha enseñado lugares muy bonitos y he conocido a gente maravillosa. Anfitrión de 10. Gracias Damien.

We had an amazing experience with Harley and Chelsea and are very thankful for having them stay with us. Harley is super skilled in building things and knows very well how to use power tools. He built a shed in the garten for us and it looks beautiful. Chelsea is a great chef. We had wonderful meals together. She was also sewing pillows for us and helped a lot in the household and garden. Both have a very positive spirit and are very reliable. We had great conversations and spent Christmas and New Years together. Thank you so much both of you and have an amazing ongoing travel. We hope to have you back some time!

I had a great two-week experience at the shelter in November 2025. I was very warmly welcomed by the on-site team, Nico, Jamie and Giannis, and by Petra and Daphna who manage the shelter remotely and are always caring and supportive. Even though I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to meet them in person, they are very involved, visit regularly, and put an incredible amount of energy into making sure the shelter runs well and that the dogs and cats are happy. You can really feel that everyone deeply loves the animals. The daily tasks included giving medication to dogs when needed, cleaning kennels, feeding and watering the animals, walking and playing with the dogs, and helping with general maintenance such as repairing or building enclosures. The schedule was clear and well respected: around 4–5 hours per day, 5 days a week, and days off were always arranged so that everyone was happy. All the dogs were adorable, and it was a real pleasure to work surrounded by them every day — especially the walks among the olive trees. The shelter has a limited budget, like most shelters, but the animals receive a lot of love and care. The accommodation is well located in Kopanaki, with a small supermarket, a market, restaurants, and buses to Kalamata and the beach. You don’t need previous shelter experience, just a love for animals and being outdoors (even when it rains — bring rain clothes if you come at the end of the year!). You might get a bit dirty, but you’ll get a lot of love in return. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to help animals and have a meaningful experience.

Lauren and Lucas stayed with me for two weeks. They happily applied themselves to any task I asked of them. Lauren was especially diligent and a great cleaner. And Lucas cooked some great meals. They got on well with the other workawayers here, were nice company and respectful around the house.

It was so lovely to have Marie at our house in New Plymouth for a week! She was extremely helpful with our kids, playing all sorts of games and making sure they were entertained and safe while we were working or out. She offered to help in other ways too, but we mainly needed help with childcare due to the school holidays, and were keen that she had time to relax and explore as well. Marie is responsible, tidy and respectful, and we would happily recommend her to other hosts. Happy travels, Marie!

I've done at least a dozen volunteering experiences over the last 2 years, and my stay with Ziad and his family for 3 weeks in Wadi Rum was among the most incredible and unique. Most of my time was spent helping around the camp, with the breakfast dinner service, helping clean the tents, feed the sheep camels. In the evening I enjoyed traditional Bedouin cuisine cooked in the ground , sometimes live traditional music in the main tent, as well as meeting new friends from around the world every evening . Ziad and his brother Zaed also let me join them on their tours around the desert. It can be sometimes difficult to get to/from Wadi Rum, so I'd recommend organising transport before hand. If you want to experience Bedouin life in one of the most beautiful places on earth, I couldn't recommend staying with Ziad, Zaed, and Khalid more.

I had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Mickael and Amandine to the ranch, and what was initially planned as a one-week stay naturally turned into something much more special. After the first week, they asked to extend… then again, and in the end, they stayed 22 days in total. That alone already says a lot as two weeks is normally my limit. Michael and Amandine are exceptionally respectful, kind, and easy to have around. Always in a good mood, positive, and always willing to help wherever needed. They didn’t just “do the work”, they brought good energy, enthusiasm, and genuine care into daily life at the ranch. They are a mature (for their age), reliable, and considerate couple. They integrated effortlessly, showed initiative, and could be trusted completely. Their presence was a joy, not only for the work they contributed but for the atmosphere they created. They are truly the kind of people any host would feel lucky to welcome: warm, polite, hardworking, and uplifting to be around. I can wholeheartedly recommend Michael and Amandine to any host, and they will always be welcome back here with open arms. ❤🌻

Masha and Lio were our very first Workawayers, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start. We feel so lucky it was them! They are such kind, friendly people, and it didn't take long for it to feel like we were just hanging out with old friends. I’m so grateful for the bond we formed—I truly feel like we’ve made real friends. We had a wonderful two weeks, and saying goodbye on the last day was actually really sad. We miss them already! If you’re a host, do yourself a favor and invite them in. Masha and Lio, thank you for making our first hosting experience so beautiful. You’re welcome back whenever you like!

Madlen and Joshi are truly outstanding Workawayers. This is already the second year they have come and once again they have shown themselves to be hardworking, responsible, and highly efficient in every task entrusted to them. Beyond their strong work ethic, they are genuinely kind, friendly, and attentive people who integrate beautifully into daily life and the spirit of the place. It is always a real pleasure to host them, and our home will always be open to them whenever they wish to return. I wholeheartedly recommend them to the entire Workaway community!
