    Description

My name is Pat and I am 60 years old. Two years ago, my husband Jean Pierre (a kitchen designer for hotels and restaurants) and I left Barcelona to come and live in the middle of nature. We both combine our respective teleworking jobs with the new project that allows us to make our home a meeting point for people with similar interests (lovers of nature, culture, meetings, exchange of ideas). We have lived abroad for many years, we love travelling with home exchange, I have been an aupair when I was young and we have always had aupairs at home while our children were young. We consider ourselves cosmopolitan and open-minded.

Me llamo Pat y tengo 60 años.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have created a project based on the circular economy of giving and receiving, where human exchange is valued more than money. We offer a beautiful natural environment surrounded by forest and close to the sea, together with a family atmosphere that is always open to sharing ideas, experiences and projects.

Culture and nature go hand in hand here. Through daily life at the house, volunteers can practice languages, discover Catalan culture, learn about community living, cultural projects, sustainable lifestyles and alternative ways of creating meaningful human connections.

We speak several languages and are always happy to help volunteers improve their language skills.

Our volunteers live in the guest house next to the main house and have their own private room. Sometimes we share meals together and at other times everyone enjoys their own space and schedule.

As our meals are usually based on a traditional Mediterranean diet, we are generally better suited to people without specific vegan or vegetarian dietary requirements. We also tend to prefer hosting individual travellers rather than couples.

We share our home with two cats, two dogs and three hens.

    ⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊∘•∘⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊

  • Help

    Help

Any help is welcome in the garden (watering, pruning, planting, sweeping leaves and removing dry ones), in the forest (opening paths, clearing vegetation, collecting firewood), in the kitchen (preparing meals only for the permanent members of the household and tidying up after meals) and in the house (cleaning, organising and general maintenance tasks).

Our home is a private family house, not a hostel or a hotel. Volunteers are never asked to cook for friends or provide any kind of hospitality service.

The tasks carried out by volunteers are related exclusively to the daily life and maintenance of the property and the common areas of the house.

Depending on the profile and skills of each volunteer, we will agree beforehand on the type of help that is most needed at that moment. This may include gardening, forest maintenance, simple DIY projects (garden benches, assembling shelves, etc.), house cleaning, painting, organising spaces or creative artistic projects to decorate the house or garden.

Tasks are generally simple and adapted to the abilities and interests of each volunteer.

    ⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊∘•∘⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

House in the countryside, with a garden, 8 hectares of forest and sea views. There is the big house where my husband and I live and In the small house lives Steven, a Colombian boy, whit Nena, his dog, who helps us with housework, forest and garden and is there where our volunteers are living, as well. For me it is very important that the volunteers do not depend on us at meal times.

Whether they eat in the little house where they are staying with Steven,or whether they eat in the big house with Jean Pierre and me (this usually happens on the day of arrival, the day of departure and two lunches during the week) they will have the pantry full of food available and they are free to cook whatever they want or propose to cook for the four of us who live at home or that we all cook together. What we don't want is volunteers showing up at 1.30pm in the kitchen and sitting at the table waiting to be served.

Regarding the length of stay, the idea is a minimum of 15 days and a maximum of 3 months. Since the key to everything is making sure we are all comfortable, the idea is to take the first two weeks to get to know each other and see how the co-living flows. If both sides feel happy and on the same page, we’ll move forward with the rest of the stay to ensure the time we share is a great experience for everyone.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The nearest town is 40 minutes away on foot, 15 minutes by car. If the volunteer does not have a car, we can pick him up at the Sant Pol de Mar station. From this town, with a beautiful beach, there are trains every hour to Girona and Barcelona. It is an ideal place for those who want to take the opportunity to relax, read, walk through the forest but do not depend on us to take them to and from the station. In any case, for those who do not have their own means of transport, we will pick them up and take them to the station on the first and last day of their stay and once a week if they want to go to Barcelona/Girona or to the Sant Pol de Mar beach.
Our workaway must enjoy a quiet place, nature and peace. It is not the ideal place to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city. We live in an isolated place.

    ⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊∘•∘⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊⚊
