Description
About me and the project
Hello, and thanks for viewing my profile!
I currently live here with my dog, Posh, on a beautiful but remote hillside property that is still undergoing construction and renovation. The property is off-grid and powered by solar energy, so both electricity and water are limited and need to be used consciously.
At the moment, most of the help I need is physical, heavy-duty outdoor work. This can include moving construction materials, carrying stones, clearing areas, assisting with ongoing building projects, gardening, and general property maintenance. The terrain is steep, rocky and uneven, so you should be reasonably fit, comfortable working outdoors and able to manage physically demanding tasks.
Because of the nature of the work, strong, physically capable volunteers are especially suitable, and much of the current work may be better suited to men accustomed to lifting and manual labour. Women are absolutely welcome to enquire, but please understand that I currently have very limited light-duty work available.
Some lighter tasks may occasionally include basic carpentry, sweeping walkways, raking, gardening and general upkeep around the property.
I normally ask for approximately 3-4 hours of help per day, weekends off
Accommodation & food
Because the house itself is currently being renovated, accommodation may vary depending on what areas are available. A private bedroom will be provided whenever one is available; however, at present, volunteers may temporarily sleep on a large sectional sofa in the living area. Please make sure you’re comfortable with this before arranging your stay.
Meals are not included in the exchange. Food is quite expensive in Port Antonio, so volunteers are responsible for purchasing and preparing their own meals. As the property is remote, please bring your groceries/food supplies with you before arriving, rather than expecting easy access to shops once you’re here.
This is best suited to someone who enjoys nature, doesn’t mind simple off-grid living, understands that resources are limited, and is comfortable staying on an active construction/renovation property.
It is a peaceful and beautiful location, but this is not a resort-style Workaway experience. Right now, I’m looking for practical hands-on help from people who are comfortable with the realities of an off-grid property under development. -
