my girlfriend and l stayed for 5 nights at Rubeenson place and it was a really unique and beautiful experience! Narangala is a perfect place for everyone who likes to be surrounded by nature and a slow living, and getting in touch with the extremely friendly and helpful locals. At Rubeensons place itself we felt very comfortable and had an incredible time there. His parents are so welcoming and helpful and always checked that we are not missing anything. His mum's dishes were so delicious! one of the best Sri Lankan dishes we had during our stay in Sri Lanka We spent so much time enjoying the surroundings after work/during our work break or just enjoying the quietness of Rubeenson's place, while sitting on the terrace and reading books or playing games. There is a waterfall basically next to his parents house where you can go to wash your clothing, having some little swims or just to relax. Rubeenson brought us one day for hiking up a mountain with a group of Sri Lankan students and also to the new moon festival to a small village which was definitely the highlight of our stay! The people there were so lovely and welcoming and even tho we couldn't understand each other very well, we could make a conversation going with hands and feet. It was very beautiful to see how they celebrate important festivals and how they are welcoming strangers to be one of them. Rubeenson itself is a very kind, welcoming and helpful person. He always made sure that we are alright and having a good time. He has a lot of knowledge about Sri Lanka and its history, besides that it was nice having conversations with him because he is very curious about other peoples cultures and way of living. Also a big plus and which made us happy is, that he accepts LGBTQA and you dont need to hide who you are, since its still a tricky thing in Sri Lanka. Thank you very much for hosting us, showing us around and letting us be part of your family and this beautiful place!😊

Lila, JaySri and Dami are a really beautiful cool family and we're so grateful to have spent 3 weeks with them on their beautiful vegan farm ☺️ we mostly worked on house and outdoor repairs (learned to tile, to mix cement) with a bit of cooking and garden things mixed in here and there 🌼 the atmosphere is really great, the other volunteers, the veg&vegan meals are so so amazing, the nearby waterfall is beautiful (someone needs to show you the way though you'll never find it on your own), and sometimes weekend trips events or house/karaoke parties are fun, the doggos are very sweet and the houses and rooms are comfy 🌟✨ Lila & JaySri are really open, giving and hard-working fun people you'll love 🥰 thank you so so much and we'd love to come back here if we make it back to Tasmania 🌸

We had such a great time staying with Carl – definitely our best Workaway stay so far. From the moment we arrived he made us feel really welcome and did everything he could to make sure we felt comfortable. He also really took the time for us, and we had lots of good conversations during the week. Right at the beginning he took us for a ride on his motorcycle, which was a pretty fun start to the week. During our stay he also took us out on his boat to show us some hot springs in the river, and one of the biggest highlights was flying with him in his helicopter to Tongariro National Park – not exactly an everyday Workaway experience! On top of that, the work was always fair and never too hard. Carl is always up for a bit of fun and we had a lot of laughs during the week. And who knows – maybe Paulina will even meet the man of her life through the Hinge account he put so much effort into setting up for her. The week went by way too fast and we definitely would have stayed longer if we could. We can really recommend staying with Carl and just want to say thanks again for everything! 😊

I stayed with Angela for about half a month. It was my first Workaway experience. After two weeks in Dublin, caught up in the frenzy of enclosing my future, I wanted to experience the real Ireland. In Ballinamore, I found a welcoming branch to nestle on. Angela is a thriving woman whose life has never bloomed with the same flowers. She has flourished in visual arts, feminism, psychotherapy, Tibetan support, poetry... it's impossible not to absorb some of her life's determination. Conversing with her comes naturally. She refined my passion for Irish literature as she introduced me to great writers like McGahern and Dealy. Moreover, through her first-hand account of the British oppression in Belfast, one becomes more aware of Ireland's troubled history. Her partner, Eamon, has a library inside his head; on the evenings he came for dinner, I wished I could have consulted it all night long. The job involves cooking, washing dishes, and walking the dog: Luca is incredibly intelligent - it’s a shame she doesn't have opposable paws. I will miss reciting Yeats's poems on walks while Luca sniffed for the tracks of the Stolen Child.

This place and the horses are truly something special. We arrived here last minute and were given a very warm welcome. The work is not hard, involves three tasks a day, and is very connected to the horses. It was beautiful to see how well even very old horses can be cared for and enjoy their lives. Hillary knows so much about the horses, and it was really fun and interesting to learn from her. During our stay, we were also able to visit Sun Peaks and Kamloops on our days off. The Workaway accommodation is not very big, but it has everything you need. It’s cozy and warm, and Debs is always there to help if anything comes up. As a couple, our room was maybe a little small, but we are still very happy that we got to experience this place, the animals, and the wonderful people there. We would definitely recommend this place!

I had a wonderful two weeks staying with Freddy here, Chincha. The highlight of my stay was working on a mural - a work of art which I didn't know I was capable of producing and a process which has given me so many new skills. I also helped with the animals every day and I already miss Lulu who is a very lovable dog. Freddy is a wonderful host who is very kind and ready to help with anything you need. This is really an amazing place and I highly recommend going there if you have the opportunity. I would love to go back one day.

I volunteered at this hostel in January-February this year for 2 weeks and I wish I stayed longer (so I will most likely come back). Josie the manager is super down to earth, fun, friendly , and easy to talk to if there are any problems. 10/10. Jerico the town is a hidden gem, and definetly worth the visit if you want to dive into traditional Colombian culture. There are lots of local cafes and restaurants selling cheap quality food, as well as a supermarket and quite a lot of smaller stores to get fresh fruit and veg if you want to cook back at the hostel. As well as this, there are many places to hike and explore around the surrounding area of Jerico. My main concern coming here was thinking I may be bored at times, but I always found something to do whether it was talking to other guests or volunteers at the hostel, trying new foods or hiking. The work itself was completely fine and included simple tasks cleaning around and making sure guests were all fine. Would recommend this Workaway to anyone visiting Colombia!!!

Alexis and Hugo stayed with us for almost two weeks and helped a lot around the property. During their stay, they harvested all our garlic, prepared the beds with manure for the next crops, chopped and organized the firewood, and also helped us prepare some really tasty French meals. We truly enjoyed their company. They are both very nice people—friendly, easy to talk with, and great to have around. We really appreciate all their help and wish them the very best in their future travel plans.

I had a very enjoyable week staying with Marissa in Lima. The area she lives in is a quiet residential area, away from the busyness of the city centre and Miraflores. I swept the house every day and kept the garden tidy; it was a very relaxed experience which was perfect for my first week in South America. Marissa is a pleasure to spend time with and talk to and her cat, Genesis, is very cute! I'd be happy to go and stay with them again.

We loved having Tomi with us — he was a great person to have as part of the team. We had a range of different tasks to complete before opening our hotel, including general labour, cleaning, and setting things up. Tomi approached everything with diligence, efficiency, and a really positive attitude. The other staff also really enjoyed working with him, and he fit in very well with the team. We’d happily host him again and can definitely recommend him to other hosts.

Abi from the USA slotted into our family like we had known her for years. She was such a lovely person to have around that we actually didn’t want her to leave! She naturally helped out around the house without ever needing to be asked — jumping in to help with dishes, washing, and everyday jobs. Abi also came along to lots of family activities and events with us and the kids, including Halloween trick-or-treating, which was such a fun memory. She even helped us at a market we were running by making crafts and lending a hand on the day. On top of that, she helped us with some editing work in Adobe, which was a huge help. Abi brought such an easy, positive energy into our home and truly felt like part of the family while she was here. Abi, you can always come back and live with us anytime! Im glad we could take you on the boat and you could catch your first FISH!!!!!!!!! Thank you for everything, and we hope all is going well for you back in the USA. We can’t wait to visit you one day. Much love from Jacinda, Jason, Harlem, Kora and Sonnyjoe

Mark from the USA was such a kind soul and a wonderful workaway and guest to have with our whānau. He spent a lot of time helping us out at the marae with weeding and other jobs, and he was always happy to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Around the house he was great to have — always willing to learn new skills and get stuck in. While he was here he even learnt how to use the whipper snipper! Mark was also very easy to take along to family events and visits. He wasn’t shy to spark up conversations and connect with people, which made him a really natural fit with our wider whānau. The kids absolutely loved having Mark around. He is incredibly talented with Lego and would spend hours building and playing games with them right up until bedtime. He also spent lots of time jumping on the trampoline with Harlem until it got dark. One thing that really showed Mark’s kind nature was that he even left a few useful items from his self-contained car for us when he left, which we thought was incredibly thoughtful. Thank you Mark for being such a positive part of our home. We hope the rest of your travels have been amazing. Much love from Jacinda, Jason, Harlem, Kora and Sonnyjoe

My stay with Paul and Barb was my first as a WorkAway. Their home is in an exceptional place, and experiencing a tiny taste of what it is like to live off road and in a unique area of geography - very special. Paul and Barb are warm generous people who are experienced hosts. They work hard and also both have a great capacity for fun and relaxation which they share very freely. I helped out with tidying and sorting the greenhouse, sowing seeds, other gardening tasks alongside Barb and Paul, did a sanding and painting job, weed deadheading (more significant than it might sound!) and helped clear the track of stones. I had a beautiful morning kayak trip, and a few swims which I loved. The healthy and tasty dinners - an absolute bonus. It was unforgettable stay for me , and a great privilege to be included in Paul and Barb's life for 8 days.

Christina was a big help here on our little farm and especially in the kitchen. Her fun and upbeat personality made her stay with us a pleasure and memorable. We even celebrated Chinese New Year with her and our Chinese neighbors . Christina made all the decorations. We wish her all the best on her adventure!

Dominik stayed with us for two weeks and helped with a lot of different projects, from concreting , and building work, setting up a kitset shed, to house and animal sitting when we were away for a weekend. We got to know him as an open easy to connect with person. We can highly recommend Dominik to other hosts as a skilled, and very reliable workawayer. He fitted in well with everyone who was staying with us. We wish Dominik well for the remainder of his trip.

It was a pleasure to have Parris and Zach stay with us for the week. They are warm, easygoing guests with a great sense of humour who were fantastic to have around, and it was a joy sharing meals, conversations, and a few games together. Zach cooked some delicious meals during his stay – we were very happy taste-testers for his chef ambitions! He also did a great job reorganising the garage and shed, which was a huge work and help. Parris worked her magic indoors, reorganising cupboards and helping paint parts of the greenhouse we’re putting together. Big projects again. Both of them were proactive, thoughtful, and happy to lend a hand wherever it was needed. They quickly became an integral part of the household! We’d happily welcome them back anytime.
