It took me some time to find the right words after their departure, as what Akabal and Sébastien accomplished here goes far beyond the ordinary. They are truly rare individuals: deeply talented, incredibly resourceful, versatile in every situation, with a sharp artistic sense and an exceptional working harmony. Together, they create, build and imagine with remarkable fluidity and intelligence. Their shared energy is powerful, balanced and deeply inspiring. Their dogs, Inja and Jakuna, reflect them perfectly: remarkable, well-balanced, gentle and full of love. Jakuna is a rescue dog, and both of them are exceptionally reliable and trustworthy. What they achieved on the property is simply outstanding. They left the place far more beautiful, cleaner and more alive than when they arrived. The respect they show for nature, spaces, tools, animals and everything around them is total and sincere. The trust I place in them is absolute. I would hand them the keys to the property with my eyes closed, without the slightest hesitation. Their human generosity matches their talents. It was an extraordinary stroke of luck to cross paths with them, to share time with them, and it will be an immense privilege for anyone who welcomes them. Welcoming Akabal and Sébastien means welcoming talent, respect, beauty and rare humanity. You will be extremely lucky to have them with you.

Sandy et José sont des hotes merveilleux : bienveillants, généreux et sympathiques. Ils nous ont accueillis chez eux de manière plus que chalheureuse et nous ont fait confiance avec leurs animaux. Sandy est très bonne cuisinière et douée pour les langues, elle parle très bien français, anglais, espagnol et hollodais ! José est plus réservé mais, en tant qu'introvertis, nous n'étions pas dépaysés. Et sa paella est à tomber par terre ! Leur maison est rustique mais avec tout le confort nécessaire dans la chambre, la salle de bain et les parties communes. Leurs brebis, anes,chiens et chats sont tout simplement adorables. Certains ont des besoins particuliers du fait de leur âge mais cela ne nous a pas dérangé, au contraire, nous avons pris plaisir à apprendre à les connaitre. Un échange plus que riche qui nous laisse avec plein de souvenirs et l'envie de revenir :)

I had the pleasure of spending two weeks at this wonderful place by the Pacific. Linda was a great host - warm and welcoming. I enjoyed knowing clearly what is expected from me and did my best to fulfill my duties. On top of that, every volunteer is encouraged to engage in their favorite activities - arts, gardening, cooking. I particularly liked the spirit of camaraderie and sharing between the volunteers. Thanks, Linda for hosting me, hope to come back and make your idea of a Sunday brunch come true!

I had the absolute pleasure of guiding equine therapy sessions and other heart-centered offerings in this beautiful natural setting (cacao ceremonies, sound healing, guided meditation and much more). It was truly an unforgettable experience. Being surrounded by nature created such a peaceful atmosphere, which perfectly complemented the work with the horses. The area itself holds a special kind of feel the moment you arrive. Loved the private accommodation at the local coffee farm and the food at the property was delicious. Poas village is just few minutes walk so everything is very convenient. Thanks so much Vera, Eduardo and all the staff and the local community 🙏

We had a really pleasant stay with William and are very grateful for this experience. It was exciting to be part of the house renovation project, and we learned many new things while also having a lot of fun working together. The working hours were well organized but always relaxed. In our free time, we often explored beautiful beaches and hiking spots together with him and the other people living in the house, and we experienced so much in such a short time. It was also very special to live in a shared house environment with people from different backgrounds and to contribute together to the same project. :)

The time in Swellendam at David's place was wonderful. From the moment we arrived we felt at home and as part of the community. He is building up a new place for a community's backpackers in Swellendam and we could help him with creating a website and preparing the online channels as well as other work duties around the house. We spend two weeks at his place and enjoyed every minute of it. We met other workawayers there and had the possibility to work and live all together and share cultures and experiences. You'll also have the chance to discover the nature around as well as the village and just enjoy the simple life. We are looking forward to come back one day!

Great food, wonderful company, and excellent cerveza await fellow Workawayers at the Brewery and the family home. It truly feels like their own slice of paradise in the foothills of Samaipata. During our stay in December 2025, we helped with a wide range of tasks including cleaning and varnishing bamboo, gardening, washing bottles, setting up a Linux server for their brewing technology, washing windows and dishes, and cooking peaches - so many peaches 🤯 (courtesy of their neighbours!). We learned so much from their way of life: from whole-food vegan living, to the brewing process, and Bolivian culture in general. We played many rounds of cards, and board games with the kids, helped the kids with English, while they helped us with Spanish. We feel incredibly grateful and lucky to have shared such an amazing 3-4 week experience. Thank you so much, David, Mel, and the kids! P.S. David buys chilli’s that are tasty, but HOT.

Dear Helena and Mutlu, we are very grateful to you for your warm comfort and hospitality! Our first experience at Workaway was a memorable warm memory and we will definitely come back again, sit in the evenings at dinner in good company. Due to the fact that we all work together and learn something new, the work was a pleasure, with good music and humor. Mutlu is a very good cook, we are grateful for that, Saturday and Sunday were like a holiday, the most delicious cuisine with very tasty wine. And also your children (that is, Charli, Teddy, Parker, Puss, Tomas and Scooter 😁) are the funniest animals we were lucky enough to meet and we already miss them! We wholeheartedly wish everyone to visit you at least once, because in this company and in this house the feeling is like at home! We recommend! ❤️

We spent more than a month with Benoît, Ann and Django, and time literally flew by without us even realizing it. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with incredible kindness and genuine care. We immediately felt at home. They are deeply kind, attentive and generous people. We shared wonderful moments together, full of meaningful conversations and fascinating stories. You truly don’t see time passing when you’re with them. The work is varied and interesting, always explained with patience and carried out in a positive and respectful atmosphere. They have some great projects going on, so there’s always something interesting to do. The place is simply beautiful: peaceful, surrounded by nature, with a lake at the bottom of the property. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy nearby. The cabins are very comfortable, the pub is a warm and friendly place where everyone enjoys gathering, and the sauna… a real treat! We also spent great moments with Django, their dog, who loves when you throw a stick for him. They truly did everything to make sure we felt comfortable, included and happy to be there. We are leaving with wonderful memories and a lot of gratitude. Thank you again for this incredible experience Tack så mycket ;-) William & Aymée

Clémence spent about ten days with us. She was very efficient with the tasks we entrusted to her, especially tidying the guest rooms and cleaning the pool, and she was always available to lend a hand. She was very friendly, we had a great time together, and we highly recommend her.

We agreed with Pablo and Silvia on three weeks of stay and they extended on mutual agreement to almost six weeks. We spent many working hours, meals and also free time with them. They didn’t have any experience in physical work, but the tasks required here are mostly average gardening. A few times when there was a job to be done by themselves they claimed to know what to do but actually didn’t. For example: Pablo climbed up the wrong (but high) roof once and then wasn’t able to come down by himself. Regularly Silvia watched Pablo work instead of helping. However, we had been happy about how much we got done with their help. They left us cheerful and with a gift bag full of goodies for their road trip home.  Three weeks later we learned about their view on us and our place reading it online. In almost five years of being a host this was the most disappointing experience and it made us pause our profile. What struck us most was their lack of openness — they never voiced their disappointment, confusion, or unmet needs while they were here, not even when we asked them directly. We hope they’ll be more honest going forward and understand that sometimes unmet expectations stem from a limited perspective.

There are simply not enough words in neither English nor Italian to describe how wonderful this experience was. The land is so gorgeous and full of life, the home has such a warm energy and spirit, the animals are absolutely lovely and funny and Giuseppe is the kindest, most peaceful caretaker host of all. This was my first workaway so I didn't know what to expect, and I'm very glad that I went in totally open-minded, because the experience was life-changing. Peppe is wise and knows that the work is not a hurry, and so we took our time tending to the land and property, while immersing in each others cultures and enjoying quality time together. If you're looking for a place to slow your life down, and share some peace, healthy food and positive energy, this is the place for you. also, getting to meet friends and family of Peppe was a major highlight of my time here. that is why I travel. Grazie mille for everything Peppe and I hope our paths cross again someday soon!

Tsukasa and Hana are two wonderful individuals who are always smiling and ready to assist with any task. I had a truly great experience with them, and they felt more like family than hosts. They kindly supported me in improving my Japanese language skills, which I greatly appreciate. They were also very helpful with cooking and gardening activities. Additionally, we had the opportunity to visit many beautiful places together, which made their stay even more memorable. I highly recommend them to any Workawayer hosts and sincerely wish both of them all the best in the future.

Not thinking at all about all the fabric things that need to be fixed, we were so amazed how Stephanie now extended our possessions of socks within just a few days:-) all holes gone, all spots on the living room furniture and car seat vanished! Besides that no worries if you need a cook, stitcher, ironer, gardener..Stephanie is combining all:-).We also enjoyed the fact that she is always working forsighted and a pleasure to have around. Highly recommended!

Dominika has stayed with me in Spain twice already- first for a month of house sitting last year and recently for a week helping me with errands while I settled into my new flat, and honestly, both times she was amazing to have around. She is incredibly hardworking and proactive, always noticing what needs to be done without being asked, and approaching everything with care and attention. What really stands out also is how open, mature, and easy she is to be around. I felt completely comfortable and at ease having her stay, and it really felt like having someone I could fully trust with my space. I’m very grateful for all her help and I can wholeheartedly recommend Dominika to any host. You will definitely be very happy to have her help - she brings not only reliability but also a really lovely presence and energy to your home.❤️

I had a wonderful time here! Pablo and Marcela are beautiful, genuine people who welcomed me with open arms! I stayed in low season so there were not many guests but plenty to do to upkeep the hostel and it's tranquil gardens. Aside from the great surf breaks there's lots of adventuring to do in the area and increíble beaches to see. I would highly recommend volunteering here for the people you meet and the friends you will inevitably keep! I hope one day I can come back to visit :) p.s. You will fall in love with the local dogs - especially Azul! 🥹

Working and living at the Sanctuary was a marvellous and live changing experience! A queer haven, an anarchist dream space <3 Everything super well organised, community and communication full of love and clarity - and the cutest and quirkiest animal friends! All the longtermers really pour their heart and soul into this place and it shows! I have learned so much about taking care of and living with animals and feel truly inspired. Plus, I've met some wonderful people - connections I'll cherish forever. THANK YOU everyone! I hope I'll be able to come back :)
