  • Description

    Description

Hi my name is Giuseppe, i live in Sicily, in Motta d'Affermo.

In 2022 I bought an house with an hectare of land and I'm taking care of this beautiful place by creating a food forest and a BnB. I'm using natural materials to renovate the house and In the future I would like to create a village with 2/3 tiny houses. I'm also in the process to buy another piece of land which will host a donkey and tree houses.

The land is mainly cultivated with olive trees, but there are many fruit trees and some vegetable gardens. I'm regenerating the soil using the principles of syntropic farming or agroforestry, learning and experimenting everyday.

My aim is also to spread the emotions of a life in a community, understanding and improving every day the relationship with other people, sharing experience, knowledge and good time together.
Achieve the harmony in being together is very important to me and in these years it became the priority before any activity or work.

Pets are an important part of my project, they are good companions during the days, but first of all I consider them as great masters, teaching us everyday how to Live.
I live with four dogs: Lula, Valerio, Panna, and Rosita.
And two cats: Xiko and Zanna.

Meditation is a daily practice here, you are always welcome to join if you want!

The house is big enough to host up to 2 volunteers at time, so the group is normally composed of 2/3 people, with some exceptions when friends come to visit.
During summer, starting from June I work with the Bed and Breakfast, so I'm not hosting volunteers in summer anymore but you can decide to sleep in tent if you want.
The house is near to the sea (5 minutes by car, but very steep road and takes 30 minutes by foot).
The closest village is Santo Stefano di Camastra, reachable in 10 minutes with car or 1 hour walking.

Travellers can enjoy the life in this magical place between the sea and the mountains, surrounded by olive grove. In this area of Sicily traditions are still important and sometimes it feels like taking a leap into the past, giving the opportunity to understand better the history and the culture of the island.

Volunteers will also learn how to live together with few other people in a small and familiar community , taking care of other people, giving and receiving love, being receptive and open towards other and aspiring at building harmony in the relations.

You can also find a true calm and meditative atmosphere since there are very few noise and distractions. Perfect for those who want to explore their inner dimension and dedicate some time to meditation.

The main learning i can offer is about natural farming and agroforestry management. I graduated in organic agriculture and made a lot of practical experience in these years. I'm also interested into natural building and open to share what I've learnt :)

  • Help

    Help

The help requested is seasonal, according to the different time of the year, but the most frequent one is the regular care of the agroforestry lines (clearing, pruning, mulching) and vegetable gardens (planting, weeding, mulching, watering).

Other usual tasks are: moving wood, stones, earth; harvesting and transforming fruit (especially olives in October and November).

The help is 3 hours per day maximum, that's often enough to complete daily tasks. And the helping days are from Monday to Friday. Always remember not to force yourself! :) Quality is always better than quantity.

It's also important to help with the regular help around the house, cleaning when it's necessary, washing dishes, getting firewood etc..

On Saturday I use to celebrate the end of the working week with a nice dinner or going out. And the day after, on Sunday is dedicated for a complete rest or meeting the family.
The helping week starts again on Monday!

Sometimes on Monday afternoon I teach parkour for a class in Santo Stefano, you could join if you are interested!

    Accommodation

The food offered is two meals per day: lunch and dinner, I normally skip breakfast. I love cooking and I eat quite simple and almost vegan. A free offering for food is highly appreciated, although it's completely optional (an example of the amount of the contribution is 3/5 euro per day).
It's always possible for workawayers to buy food from the supermarket as well. I go there once or twice a week.

About the accommodation : the house has two floors: downstairs there is a room for volunteers with two beds and a private bathroom, and upstairs there is my room and a common space with living room, kitchen and bathroom; there is also a beautiful terrace with sea view.

About transport: the northern coast of Sicily is very efficiently served by trains. I can pick you up from the train station of Santo Stefano di Camastra / Mistretta or Tusa.

In the time off there are few walks in the forest and olive groves starting by foot from house. Or with only 10 minutes with car you can reach the sea and closer village like Santo Stefano di Camastra, Tusa..
With a little bit time with the car is possible to reach Nebrodi mountains.

    Space for parking camper vans

Inside the property itself is not possible to park a camper, since the land is steep and mostly made with terraces. There is a flat area where is possible to park, but with dirt road. The best parking spot for campervans is in the street right in front of the entrance, few meters from home.
