Raymond stayed with me for a week, and I really enjoyed having him here. He is very polite, kind, easy going, and respectful. He was interested in everything happening here, asked questions, and made an effort to interact and connect with everyone staying here at the time, even tho some other workawayers staying here couldn't speak such great English. He cooked some great dishes from Malaysia to share with us all on his cooking nights, and also another time just so we could try a special breakfast dish from Malaysia. He happily applied himself to any task asked of him around the gardens, and inside and outside the house. And really put a lot of care in to everything he did so that it was done to a high standard. I would welcome Raymond back any time and recommend him to other hosts.

Marissa came in may 2025, and stayed a month. From day one it was a delight to have her around. Very happy personality and helpful. I noticed that I never had to ask her to do her chores, or some smal extras, she just planed all herself, and all of a sudden e.g. my house was cleaner than it had been for years. She was keen on seeing and visiting smal and big sights nearby. We had fun driving around, she wanted to drive herself, and pretty soon she funtioned as my private chauffeur. She also went on weekend trips on her own, or hooked up with other travelers. Overall I recomend her, and sure would welcome her again some time. Thanks Marissa.

Hi, we had Marie stay with us for 10 days, she is a lovely woman who is very capable working in the garden and anything else within our home. We enjoyed having Marie stay with us and enjoyed our conversation. Marie was wanting to improve her English but we felt it was very good and there was only one or two words that she stumbled on. Marie enjoyed looking around Oamaru and going for walks. We wish Marie well on her travels and she is always welcome to call into our home again. Safe travels Marie, kind regards Brenda and Ernest.

We stayed for more than three weeks at Casa de Barro and absolutely fell in love with the place. The hostel itself is truly one of a kind, and Luna and Victor are the most joyful hosts. We worked six days a week for four hours a day (cleaning, reception, chores, etc.) and had one day off to explore the surroundings. We absolutely loved the experience, thank you for having us!

we were here in February for about two weeks. during this time we picked and organized sticks for fires, picked fresh dried thyme, trimmed the vines in the vineyards, harvested potatoes/black berries and other vegetables, and cleaned the cabins when guests would come/go. it was super relaxed being here- the stars were absolutely amazing to see at night! you'll be living with Tanza (hey Tanza!) and she plus Will will tell you what needs to be done each day. a lot of the food you'll be provided is from the garden on the property. there is a cat and two dogs (used to be three) on the property who are all friendly. super peaceful place to be- remember to bring cash with you when you get there btw! a minimum of 50,000 because there are no atms. there are a couple of tiny stores in Las Peñas you can get chips and yogurt and beer from. the river was also great for swimming. super chill, beautiful and peaceful area to be, would recommend, especially if you want to be somewhere immersed in nature and take a break from loud cities!

A week-long stay that extends to almost two, it’s always good sign: the moments shared with Coni and Michel in this piece of paradise will remain forever engraved in our memories. We discussed, learned, cooked, ate, laughed, played, worked, ... lived, and well lived. Seeing with what enthusiasm and love this place, and the people who have the chance to stay there, are treated is a pleasure to see. We can only recommend the experience to our peers, go there without questioning yourself more. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Léo and Chadi.

I had an excellent time at the finca! it was quite a difference from my regular day to day life, but Brian was so cool to talk to, so full of information and very understanding. His passion and excitement for what he's creating is palpable and admirable and he was an excellent host. If you want to get out of your comfort zone and have a really cool experience, you should definitely check this place out. I tried more fruits than I could've imagined and got to learn about deforestation and natural building, which was awesome! Brian, thanks so much for hosting me and being a really welcoming and understanding person. I appreciate the conversations as well. I would love to see some updated pictures in the future! (I also ate a whole watermelon for breakfast yesterday and that was a lot 😂).

Staying with Jennifer, Cory & team here was an experience we’ll always be grateful for. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely looked after and included, which made the whole experience feel much more like staying with friends than volunteering somewhere new. The accommodation alone made the stay exceptional. Having our own little house was such a luxury — comfortable, peaceful, and fully kitted out with a proper kitchen and everything we needed. It gave us space to relax after work and made it easy to settle into a rhythm while we were there. The work was varied and satisfying. Watering the plants each day, hunting for bamboo shoots, helping build trails, and painting the wooden furniture around the property were all tasks where you can actually see the difference you’ve made straight away. It felt meaningful and hands-on in the best way. The yoga studio was another highlight. It’s such a warm, peaceful space and quickly became our favourite spot to do our workouts and stretch after a day of projects. And the food deserves a special mention. The rice, beans and eggs that were shared with us kept us very well fed — especially the beans, which were honestly some of the tastiest we’ve had. We definitely didn’t expect to eat that well (or that much!). All in all, we left feeling grateful, well fed, and really glad we came and could contribute. It’s a warm, welcoming place created with real care, and we would absolutely recommend staying with Jennifer, Cory & family.

Chihiro was a joy to host. Her English is sufficient to communicate and her personality is so sweet. She is keen to help and to fit in with the flexible needs of our home. I am looking forward to seeing her when she visits on her way back through.

My time at the hostel was amazing, the waves was not that good for me at the time, but everything else was great! The hostel is very nice with a big social area, and I think there can be maybe 10-15 guests, which I think was so great, because you become really close with the guests. You work 3.5 hours 5 days a week, either in the cafe or a cleaning shift. The work is very chill! Gabriel was very helpful if you had questions, or else Hugo and Cami was also great with helping out or hanging out. There is 3 dogs and 1 cat, all of them so sweet <3 In generel the vibe is fantastisk and chill and the beach is close by, I can only recommend this place. I miss it already!

I spent a week with Rossana and Marco and felt very comfortable. They are very kind, friendly people and made me feel at home right away. West is also a lovely dog and we managed to become friends. I'm happy to have met them and really hope that we will see each other again. Thank you for the wonderful time!

I spent three weeks here. Fran picked me up from the train station and we went to the academy. It wasn’t my first Workaway, so I can say it felt really well organized. Everything was explained to me, and I was shown my bed. On the first day, I had some free time to settle in and get organized. I’m German, so I immediately appreciated that there was structure, clear rules, and a work schedule with two clearly defined days off. 😄😄 Information is communicated clearly, even if something goes wrong. The animals come first, and I really value that. I really enjoyed my time there. Working with the animals and seeing that there are people who dedicate themselves to such projects was amazing. Shoutout to my amigo Apache! Greetings Robin

I had my first Workaway experience at Anja’s home, and it was truly wonderful. She and her family were incredibly accommodating, generously offering me one of their spare apartments, which was very comfortable and made me feel right at home. From the moment I arrived, Anja’s warm and kind personality put me completely at ease. She was thoughtful in showing me around the area and introducing me to places I had never seen before, which I really appreciated. I especially valued the conversations we shared, it was a pleasure getting to learn more about her life and perspectives. I’m very grateful for the experience and couldn’t have asked for a better first Workaway stay

Parris and Zac are friendly and enthusiastic people who are easy to have around and add joy to the day. They get stuck into a job, ask questions to make sure it’s done right and Zac will then cook for everyone. We wish them well on their travels.

Stéphanie was reliable, thoughtful about her responsibilities as part of the house and she took great care of our Creatures. She's very conscientious about the fact that animals are family members and her role essentially was to support us and our Creatures as a family. During her time in Malta she also helped out a close friend by taking care of her dog while they went to visit their family abroad. We found Stéphanie very focused on Creatures caring to their every need as well as insuring that the space where she was staying was kept clean and tidy.

Estrid and Klara were `cream of the crob'workawayers. While they were here they did lots of garden clearing and weeding, helped build another layer on the brick wall, did house cleaning and lots of heavy hauling of sacks of sand and gravel etc. - but their big job was painting around windows and doors in my studio room. They did such professional job and were meticulous in very detail - scraping, sanding and painting. I'm ver grateful for their expertise in the work they did here. They were also fun to have around and got on well with all the other helpers here - all in all they added to our quality of life - being great fun - always positive and friendly. I can recommend Klara and Estrid very highly to any future hosts - they are a couple of gems who you would be well advised to say `yes' to. They are welcome back here any time and I hope to have the pleasure of their company sometime, somewhere, in the future.

I spent 15 days at Nicole and Sebastian’s house and it was definitely a good experience. I felt welcomed, especially by the children Bianca, Aurelia, and the baby Marinus. The work was not heavy, just helping with some household tasks. The kids are easy to deal with, and I enjoyed playing with them. I especially liked spending time with baby Marinus, who is a cheerful and intelligent baby. the day to day life together was relaxed and friendly. The place is very beautiful, surrounded by mountains, with practically a mountain in the backyard. It’s easy to take the train in Übersee to go to Salzburg in Austria, Munich, and other cities in the region.

Robin was definitely a 5 star Workawayer. Always ready willing and able to do anything I asked of him. He has great carpentry skills and finished building a camp toilet out of pallets and odds and ends of wood and windows etc. His work is meticulous - and shows artistic flare and great craftsmanship. He also taught another helper some of his skills. He was a great help in mixing concrete for the brick wall and hauled a lot of heavy bags of gravel etc, down the garden to the project site. He was also a very easy house guest - always doing more than his face share of dishes and house cleaning and was a very friendly and easy going guy who got on well with everybody else here. I'm very grateful to Robin for all he did here and have no hesitation in recommending him highly to any future hosts or employers. He is welcome back here any time and I hope we see him again sometime.

I think Lena is a wonderful person, both as a workawayer and as a friend. From the very beginning she has been kind, warm, and has an easy laugh that fills the house with positive energy. She is fun, open-minded, and you can have very interesting conversations with her about many different topics. She has been very responsible throughout her stay. She always had a great attitude, showed initiative, and was willing to help with any task. She also surprised us with delicious meals that we truly enjoyed as a family. She was very nice with our cat Himilce. She also showed great interest in learning Spanish, putting in effort and enthusiasm every day. It has been a pleasure to get to know Lena and share this time with her. I wish her all the best in her studies, her work, and everything she chooses to do in life. I’m sure she will do great and leave a positive mark wherever she goes.
