    Description

Hola! We’re Owen and Estefanía, living with our two children — Nela (10) and Aidan (8) — plus a couple of friendly dogs and cats, in the hills just outside Viveiro, Galicia.

We love spending time outdoors, whether we’re working in the garden, cooking together, or just relaxing with friends and neighbours. Life here is simple and full — a mix of good food, fresh air, and the daily rhythm of family life.

We enjoy meeting new people and sharing our space with others who appreciate nature, creativity, and community.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We live in a small Galician hamlet surrounded by countryside and close to the coast, where daily life still follows the rhythm of the seasons. Staying here is a chance to experience authentic rural Galicia — the language, traditions, and community life that make this part of Spain so special.

We’re a Spanish–Welsh family, and we speak English and Spanish at home. It’s a great opportunity for Workawayers to practice either language in a relaxed, friendly environment while experiencing a mix of cultures and ways of life.

You’ll be welcomed into a network of local friends and neighbours, with chances to join in small get-togethers, shared meals, and local fiestas.

We enjoy sharing what we know about building, design, gardening, and sustainable living, and we’re always interested in learning from the people who visit — whether it’s new skills, stories, or ideas from different parts of the world.

  • Help

    Help

There’s always something happening here — a mix of gardening, outdoor upkeep, and general family life in a peaceful rural setting. We’d love help from people who enjoy being active, practical, and part of a relaxed home environment.

Day-to-day tasks can include light gardening, weeding, watering, planting, helping to keep outdoor spaces tidy, and small household tasks depending on the season. We also really appreciate help with things like food prep, playing with the kids, language exchange, walking our friendly dog, or lending a hand around the home.

No special skills are required — just a positive attitude, a willingness to get involved, and to work safely and independently. We’re happy to show you how things are done, and there’s always a variety of tasks so you can choose what suits you best.

We value helpers who are considerate, easy-going, and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to everyday life in a rural family home. There’s plenty of time to relax, explore the area, and enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside

    Accommodation

You’ll stay in our converted camper van, parked on our land with beautiful views across the site and surrounding countryside. It’s simple but comfortable — a quiet, private space to unwind after a day’s work.

There’s an outdoor hot shower, a hot outdoor bath, and a compost toilet, all nearby and for your own use. Cooking facilities are available in the kitchen area at the house (separate from our private home), where you can prepare your own meals and store food.

We usually share one meal a day at lunchtime, which is a nice moment to sit together, chat, and enjoy good food. Evenings are more flexible — we tend to eat at different times and more casually, so everyone can do their own thing, though we sometimes share a dinner together depending on plans or if we’re at home rather than in town.

The setting is peaceful and green, surrounded by forest and only a short drive from Viveiro’s beaches, cafés, and markets — perfect for anyone who enjoys nature, simple living, and a bit of independence.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We’re based just outside Viveiro, about a 10-minute drive from the town and beaches. It’s a quiet, rural spot surrounded by trees, fields, and a small friendly community. The area is perfect for walking, swimming, surfing, and exploring the beautiful Galician coast.

There’s no public transport directly to the house, so it’s easiest if you have your own car or are happy to use a bike or get lifts when we go into town.

We’re looking for people who enjoy being outdoors, helping with their hands, and living simply. It’s a peaceful environment that suits someone independent, respectful, and practical, but who also enjoys good company and being part of family life.

We have fibre optic internet at the house and good mobile signal at the van, so staying connected is easy if you need to work online or keep in touch.

We’re very flexible with how you choose to work and help. If you need to fit tasks around remote work or other projects, that’s absolutely fine — we understand the balance. There’s a strong fibre-optic internet connection at the house and good mobile signal at the van, so online work, calls, or streaming aren’t a problem. We usually agree on the main jobs for the week and let you organise your time so that it fits naturally with your own schedule. Some days might be more hands-on; others can be lighter if you’re focused on online work. It’s an ideal place if you want to combine remote work with time outdoors, enjoy a slower pace between tasks, and be part of a small, creative family project in Galicia.

If you’re travelling in your own camper van, you’re very welcome to stay here. We have a hardstanding van parking area on our land, with the same access to facilities as our own camper van — including the outdoor hot shower, hot outdoor bath, and compost toilet. It’s a quiet and scenic spot with lovely views over the site and surrounding countryside, perfect for a comfortable and peaceful stay while helping with the project.
