This was my first Workaway, and I‘m so thankful for the opportunity, even though it was on such short notice🫶 Once a week Amanda and I would clean the house, then two days a week I’d look after Tristan and cook the meals. Tristan always liked to help, whether it was with baking dessert or showing me around the idyllic village of Varen. Wednesdays and Sundays were my days off, which I’d spend hiking the different trails, painting the stunning view from the house, or getting to know Amanda’s lovely family next door. Amanda is very patient, she and Peter immediately make you feel welcome and comfortable; always ready to advise and have an interesting conversation with. The kids are all so full of energy and personality, it was always fun to be around them. It was an amazing experience getting to know this beautiful family and explore Varen. Thank you so much Amanda and Peter for letting me stay, hopefully we’ll see each other again🤍

It was my first workaway and it was fantastic. I immediately felt at home. I stayed in Cartagena for two and a half weeks. Leticia and the children treated me like a member of the family. We talked and laughed a lot together. Since I only looked after the children when they came home from school, I had a lot of free time. This meant I could go to the Spanish Language School in the mornings and attend an intensive course for two weeks. Then I explored Cartagena and after that I spent time with the children. They are very lively, but also affectionate and loveable. It was sweet, when Victor came into my room one evening before going to bed, said „good night“ and gave me a hug. Alba often tried to teach me clapping games. I really had a wonderful time with Leticia, who often made me laugh. Every evening we all sat together in the kitchen and enjoyed our evening meal. Victor and Alba were very patient with me when I made mistakes in Spanish. They would correct me or help me with my pronunciation. I grew very fond of both children and I miss them. I hope that I will find time to visit them again someday.

I spent two weeks here in February 2026. It has been a beautiful experience! The view from there is stunning. If you are planning to go, please consider exploring the surrounding areas. The (unusual) almost constant rain dissuaded us from visiting towns and places close by, but we managed to walk through the old village of Pompana. Federico is a great host, always nice and available, and he adapted the work to my skills and passions. Since I love gardening, we spent quite some time outside pruning trees, making firewood, and managing the flower beds around the house. Federico started giving me more independence as soon as he got comfortable with my skills, and we even discussed possible future developments of the house together. We worked daily, usually during the mornings, but adapted the schedule to the different tasks. The food was fantastic! He cooked delicious dishes for us, from homemade focaccia to a variety of soups and pasta. The time we spent together was full of mutual respect. On my side, other than the daily working hours, I contributed by cleaning both the kitchen and the rooms available to me. Overall, it has been the best place I could've hoped for my first WorkAway experience. Now I can't wait to go back and see the results of our work. See you soon, Fede!

We had the pleasure of hosting Luna at our home during the month of May, it was a positive experience. She is a kind and polite young woman, and it was easy having her around. She maintained a calm presence, which brought a gentle energy to our home, something our son really responded to in a soothing way. She was consistent with her responsibilities and always fulfilled the hours we agreed on. We appreciated her reliability and the sense of ease she brought to daily routines. She was really calm and amazing with Theodor and til this day he still remembers her and she was calm and respectful towards him always. She also contributed in the kitchen, she really enjoyed cooking and introduced us to new, creative vegan meals that we loved, always with a helpful and respectful attitude. This was our first time hosting through Workaway, and having her here during such a transitional month really helped us get through a busy and demanding time. We’re grateful for the experience, and we would recommend her to future hosts looking for someone grounded, respectful, and open-hearted. Thank you again for your support and for sharing a part of your journey with us! You are the best and miss you 🤍🧡

Thabata es una persona encantadora :) Es ordenada, limpia, atenta, puntual, independiente, honesta y muy resolutiva. Convivir y trabajar con ella ha sido un gusto, y estamos realmente agradecidos por toda la ayuda que nos ha dado. Aquí siempre tendrá las puertas abiertas. Durante su estancia hizo de todo un poco: carpintería, trabajos con cemento y limpieza y orden del almacén. Maneja herramientas eléctricas como el atornillador eléctrico y la sierra circular con soltura y seguridad. Además, entiende y sigue las instrucciones perfectamente , incluso cuando se trata de tareas nuevas para ella, y las saca adelante sin problema. Nuestro trabajo a veces es duro físicamente, pero ella tiene fuerza y actitud, y fue un apoyo enorme. La recomendamos totalmente y sin ninguna duda. Si te escribe, puedes contar con ella con total tranquilidad!!

Mat! y Rebecca increíbles ambos como voluntarios!! tienen una templanza increíble! siempre disponibles para ayudar en todo! con muy buenas ideas y geniales a la hora de cambiar de planes, muy flexibles, amorosos y excelentes en todo tipo de tareas! una increíble experiencia y de los mejores Workayer que he tenido!... Serán siempre parte de la familia!

Violaine has lots of energy and loves tunnelling it into helping others. We had a positive experience with Violaine and know that whoever has the opportunity to host her will have the same. Violaine is polite, respectful, positive, energetic and honest. She will help with whatever task is at hand, making it a fun experience. I didn’t have the opportunity to play cards with her, but the crew did, and I know she is a card shark! She loved the team environment. Equally she was happy to be alone. An excellent French teacher! Best I’ve encountered, wish I’d had an exchange experience with Violaine when I was a teenager.

My time here was a most wonderful experience. For 6 weeks, the chateau and its breathtaking surroundings became my home and I felt very welcome. Claudia and Jag are openhearted and relaxed and it was a pleasure helping them with their branding and the website. I also painted in the halls and did some house sitting. I always felt safe, even when I was alone in this big house. And I enjoyed the calm environment as well as the company of the lovely pets. Time just flew and I only left the place for one weekend. It was a magnificent time and I can only recommend it!

Dionny, muchas gracias por esta experiencia. Dionny nos cuidaba muy buena, cómo sus propios hijos. Todos los días estaba tiempo para compartir historias y sonríemos juntos. También Alan, un chico muy gracioso, nos cuidó muy bien y nos dió recomendaciones para todo! Ellos son muy flexibles con el trabajo, especialmente cuando comunicas atento. Les voy a extrañar a ustedes! Muchas gracias por la comida, las risas, y el tiempo muy amable.

What an amazing experience and lovely family. Great place, great neighborhood and great people overall. They were so nice to me in my first workaway experience. I would love to come back. Their children are awesome. Well raised by their parents. Thats for sure.

Adham and I, along with the other volunteers, had a great time. He was a hard-working helper, an excellent cook, and a valuable addition to our social gatherings.

David volunteered in the shelter bit more that 2 weeks. He was very supportive during his time here, resposible and hardworking showing caring and love towards our dogs. He is also a social person who gets along with locals and volunteers. We totally recomend him for future volunteering experiences

Anja and Christian stayed with us for four weeks in November, and we can totally recommend them to any future host! During their time here, they mainly assisted at the sorting of the olives, and they helped as well with various tasks around the house. They were very reliable, and truly committed to everything they took on. They are very discreet and respectful, and we can say that they integrated very well into our daily life. We are very grateful for the time we shared and who knows maybe we'll see each other again!

Renate and Elise, two sweet best friends from the NL was here for two lovely weeks in the middle of the winter. Thank you for getting to know you and having you here❣️ You where of such a big help! Self going, taking direct responsibility of the doggies. I didnt need to ask. They are real dog lovers, super kind and very helpfull. They love to explore, are curious, taking part of all whats going on here, training, swimming, enjoying life❣️ So into beeing active and exploring. If you ever consider Renate & Elise, don't hesitate, they are the most friendly, helpful and nice workawayers you can think of. A big Thank You to You and I wish you good luck in the future❣️❣️ 🙏🙏

Aunque no he podido pasar todo el tiempo que me hubiera gustado y tenía previsto, he tenido la suerte de compartir grandes momentos con personas muy especiales! Si lo que buscas es realizar un voluntariado y colaborar desinteresadamente, recomiendo al 100%. Un saludo enorme para tod@s!

Dionny & Alan's place is a truly magical place in the mountains. Dionny and her sister Margarita cooked the most delicious meals, and I was blown away everyday by Dionny's strength and ability. I stayed two weeks and was sad to go. The work was really enjoyable. We worked in the field with the choclo in the mornings after breakfast, which became a lovely routine. There was a lot of free time to plan hikes to Huascaran National Park or explore the other nearby towns. Alan was really helpful with organizing hikes or giving useful info. I will miss the beautiful landscape, Valentina, and even the daily rain. Thank you again Dionny and Alan, for a lovely experience!

Kai is a super friendly and flexible host who warmly welcomed me into his home. I was greeted not only by him but also by his lovely dog, Bugsy. He even prepared a fantastic surf and turf dinner, where I had the chance to meet his son and truly feel like part of the family. The room is spacious, with a very comfortable bed and fast internet. The neighborhood is calm and quiet at night, which made it easy to relax and rest. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend staying with Kai.
