Thank you so much for your beautiful message, it truly means a lot! Mia is such a sweet soul and incredibly helpful. With her help we managed to do some quick tour planning together, and even though the weather wasn’t the best, her optimism really lifted my spirits and kept everything positive. We had such an amazing time together late night talks, lots of laughter, and sharing stories about our different cultures. Honestly, it was time so well spent. We’re so happy you felt the sisterhood here. Hosting you was such a lovely experience for us too! I’m also really glad the project felt meaningful but not too hard, that’s always the goal! I’m so grateful we got to meet you. Karen will definitely remember the Germany invitation! Lots of love to you and safe travels. We truly hope our paths cross again someday!

We spent an amazing month with Richard, Ruth and their family. They welcomed us into their home like family. During our time there we built, planted and weeded vegetable beds. We also helped with making organic fertilisers and pesticides. It was really interesting, and we learnt a lot! There was a nice relaxed feel to the farm work, with no more than 5 hours a day. We really appreciated Ruth adapting recipes to make them gluten free - we were treated to some of the best pancakes and doughnuts we've had in years. In our free time we had great fun playing with Leon and Noel, playing cards with Junior and Ricardo, and playing games of football at the weekend. The farm is located a calm and quiet rural area with plenty of walking and cycling options. Thank you guys, you made our Kenyan experience special 😁

Esme and Maca volunteered together with us, and they were both absolutely wonderful. They were not only incredibly helpful volunteers but also such fun and positive people to have around. It was truly a joy spending time with them. They always greeted everyone they met through our programs and genuinely enjoyed talking and connecting with people in the community. Since they both have experience teaching English, they knew exactly how to build connections even with children who didn’t understand much English. They approached the kids with so much warmth and care, constantly talking with them, playing with them, and making them feel comfortable. Also they were always prepared with fun activities that the children would enjoy so the kids opened up to them very quickly. When I look back at the photos, I’m always struck by how bright and happy the children’s faces are. We truly hope to see them again someday. They will always be welcome here!

I loved having Zachary here, he was a great help 😍 Smart, super communication skills, very respectfully coliving, super tidy. He was an absolute great help to me in a time with a massive workload, I will be forever greatful. His dog has a cute personality and my pack of intact dogs and he went along very well. I can absolutely recommend having him!

We had such a fun time with Noa and Haruta! They are positive and responsible and bring a certain aura to the place. Noa shared much of her knowledge from her homesteading life . She is responsible independent and adapts easily. She can also take action when necessary and knows what needs to be done. We loved listening to your stories about you growing up in Japan and telling us about your culture. Loved the singing evenings we had and the kids got along so well. Karaoke all together was such fun!

Evan was an intelligent, honest and very likable young man, who helped us on our small farm. He stayed for a week and did lots of small jobs for us. Thanks for the visit Evan.

Sophie stayed with us as a volunteer and joined our activities with the children and local community. She was calm, thoughtful, and very independent. She planned a Harry Potter–themed activity, which the children really enjoyed, and everyone loved the fish and chips she made. Sophie is not someone who immediately expresses her feelings. And building relationships with children and local people took time, but she approached everything politely and respectfully. Thank you so much for being part of our community, Sophie!

We stayed in Gert’s house during his absence while he was in South Africa, and we were fully responsible for taking care of the house and maintaining both the property and the garden. The tasks we carried out at Gert’s place were very varied: gardening, DIY projects, house maintenance... We also helped him with tasks related to his university work, providing additional assistance where needed. As the host shared our passion for food, we had complete freedom in the kitchen, which allowed each of us to express our love for cooking and enjoy eating incredibly well. This position is ideal for autonomous and versatile people who are capable of handling physical tasks, while also being flexible enough to help with a wide range of other responsibilities. The experience was very positive on both sides — a balanced and highly enriching exchange.

As Paul mentioned, I was initially only scheduled to stay for a few weeks and ended up just continually extending because I couldn't actually bring myself to leave such an amazing place. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say Paul, Kelly, and her mother Diane are probably among the nicest people you will ever meet in your lives. The animals are all adorable and extremely fun to be around, and I don't think I've ever met a family who cares for and treats their animals as well as they do, and that energy is clearly reflected back to you from the animal's characters as well. One thing I'll definitely miss is everyone's very tasty cooking; Paul's vegan meals are super delicious and you'll stay well fed here. As for the actual work, an average week here will likely include morning/evening feedings that are normally at 6:30am/5:30pm respectively, water filling/cleaning, mucking, and many other miscellaneous tasks that come up or need to be done around the sanctuary. That can range from weeding to helping build out the various structures on the property as the place expands and animals get added. All in all, it was extremely hard to leave, and I know anyone else into this lifestyle would be making the perfect choice to stay here and help with an awesome and essential mission.

I am so lucky to have spent time in Cockatoo with this amazing family. Wei Wei and Gary are extremely kind and welcoming and made me feel like part of the family. Their dog Blue Moon is very gentle and has a unique personality, and most of all Wildflower / Nana is the sweetest and most hilarious kid and she truly became a little sister to me. I was also there during the pregnancy and birth of baby Meadow. The work was very easy and fair. I helped out with some light daily chores and a few fun projects outside. They ensured I was comfortable and had everything I need. I will always treasure my time there and hope to see them all again one day.

Pia was lovely to host, so cheerful and smiley and vivacious. She helped me a lot with weed pulling that I had been putting off, and digging holes for fruit trees...I hate digging! It was great fun hanging out together and a privilege to be able to host her.

This was without any doubt one of the most wonderful Workaway experiences we have ever had. From the first contact, Ottoman supported us with our arrival and made us feel welcome and safe even before we reached the farm. When travelling to a new place so far away, this kindness means a lot. Ottoman, Angelica and their children welcomed us with incredible warmth. Very quickly we felt that we were not just volunteers but truly part of the family. Everyone on the farm is friendly, respectful and kind, and there is always a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. The wooden huts are comfortable and beautifully located in nature. Angelica prepares amazing fresh meals three times a day – always delicious and made with great care. Ottoman loves nature deeply and has inspiring visions for the future of the farm. He is very open to ideas and suggestions and always treats volunteers with appreciation and respect. The work is fair and flexible, and there is always understanding if you need a break. We also completely fell in love with all the animals on the farm. But what makes this place truly special are the people. During our stay we didn’t just make friends – we gained a second family. We are incredibly grateful for this experience and will definitely come back one day. We recommend this place with all our hearts to anyone looking for a meaningful and unforgettable Workaway experience.

Verena stayed with our family for almost three months, which says a lot in itself. When someone lives with you for that long you really get to know them, and Verena was an absolute pleasure to have in our home. She is incredibly organised, reliable and independent. Verena always pitched in without needing to be asked and was consistently helpful with whatever was going on in the house. She’s also very clean and thorough in everything she does, which made day-to-day life run much more smoothly. What we appreciated most was how easy she was to live with. She’s calm, thoughtful and very capable, and you can trust her to just get on with things. Having someone like that around for an extended stay makes a huge difference. After nearly three months together she really became part of the rhythm of the house, and we’re very grateful for all the help and support she gave during that time. We would happily recommend Verena to any host and would welcome her back anytime.

Kinga stayed with our family for a while and she was honestly wonderful to have in our home. She was amazing with the kids. Very quickly she understood their different personalities and somehow managed to handle all the little ups and downs that come with children with patience, kindness and a really calm energy. They absolutely loved her and trusted her straight away. Kinga is a very caring and generous person with her time. She was always willing to help, but more than that she genuinely enjoyed being part of family life. She brought a fun, slightly kooky energy to the house which made everyone laugh, and she was always up for a chat, a game with the kids, or sharing meals together. She was a real pleasure to have around and by the end of her stay she felt much more like a friend than a Workawayer. We’re very grateful for the time we spent together and would welcome her back anytime. Hakuna Matata my friend, until we meet again xxx We love you

I had the pleasure of welcoming Yumi and Fran into my home, where we shared two wonderful months together. The experience was enriching in many ways: Yumi gave me lovely yoga classes that brought calm and balance to my days, and Fran did a fantastic job organizing my workshop with great care and efficiency. Beyond the work exchange, we shared meaningful conversations, simple daily moments, and a warm, positive atmosphere. Such lovely persons, both of them!

Carlotta and Nicolo are absolutely amazing, as individuals and as a couple. its been a huge honor and privilege to have them as part of our family:) they both helped us in many different projects around involving art, social media and construction. they also cooked amazing food for us and participated in our social projects around the island - helping in a local animal shelter and in a public school. other then that, they are just so fun to be around, they bring the best energy, are always up for helping everyone with everything, and make everyone around them feel instantly comfortable and safe. we shared a lot of beautiful moments with them, and we honestly wish they could've stayed longer. any project that will get them on the team will win big time!!! miss you guys, waiting for you to come back;)

Mike is a truly wonderful host and made me feel very welcome right from the beginning. I unfortuantely got ill and had to arrive a few days later than planned. Mike was really understanding of this and assured me to focus on regaining my strength before arriving. The accommodation and food provided is all exceptional. Mike always made sure you had everything you needed and really looked after us all. I had varied tasks including weeding, wood staining, mulching and planting multiple comfrey roots. Each task was explained well and how to use tools etc. If I had any questions or was unsure on anything I would always ask and Mike was happy to explain further. Billy the dog is also a delight to be around and a great source of entertainment in the evenings. Mike is really knowledgable about the native plant life of New Zealand. I learnt a lot about different native species and how they are managed or what threatens them. What he has done with the land is incredible and I am excited to see how the project develops over time. Mike also gave us plenty of information about walks and places to visit across New Zealand and in the local area on our days off. Overall I had an amazing experience and I reccommend this workaway highly!

What a great first workaway experience this was! Violet and Wayne were welcoming and friendly from day one, and I felt right at home. Violet is super knowledgeable about the cows and I learnt so much from her about cow and calf care. Violet was patient and kind even when we were all tired, and there was never a dull moment between sorting the cows and playing card games. The days varied depending on what point in calving we were at, with shorter days when it was quieter and longer days when more cows started to calve. I can’t recommend these guys enough if you want to get a taste for ranch life in northern BC :)
